How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

Choosing the colour was easy, there was so much choice but i colour matched from a sample pot of paint that i have used before so i just matched this one.I was happy with the service from b and q staff member as she was very helpful.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

I decorated one wall of my bedroom as i think it needed a splash of colour!

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

Product quality was excellent,it dried very quickly and did not have an overpowering smell,it covered up hairline cracks really well as it was quite a thick paint, because of the thickness i dont think it rolled as easily as other paints but overall the experience of using it was good.
I thought i could get away with one coat but i felt it did need two coats in the end but finish is good and i am pleased with results.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would use this paint again as i was impressed with the range of colours available and although more expensive than the paint i usually use i think it is worth the money as it is good quality.

  1. I picked a colour from shelf. I was looking for a hint of blue/ lilac to match curtains and carpet..suitable for my daughter when she gets older. B and q staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful. Got all my kit same day.

2.Painted our front spare room as it was grubby and dated. It was also magnolia so bland for bedroom. It's likely to become my daughters big room as she grows so wanted it to have nice fresh look

  1. I found paint went on really well via brushes. Only my medium size let 3 bristles off in all my use. One tin did my whole room once so I bought an extra tin. Tin is easy access so didn't have to wedge a screwdriver in to reopen like some.
Had a slight smell but not offensive. Dried quickly and covered really well. Just wish I had enough paint to have done two coats..needed about another 500ml.

4 I would recommend the paint and brushes however it is quite pricey if doing large areas. Colour frosted blueberry is lovely on.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

We chose from the chip rack and the only problem was so much choice! The light boxes which let you see the colours in different types of light were useful. The paint was for my 6 year old daughter’s bedroom and we settled on a pale lilac colour. We didn’t have help selecting the colour but the staff were friendly and approachable.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

We decorated my daughter’s bedroom. Our house is a new build and it still had the magnolia paint from when we moved in 2 years ago, along with various sticker/blu tack marks from posters. It needed a freshen up and my daughter was excited to be able to choose a new colour.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I thought the paint was great. Easy to apply and good coverage. It looked good after just one coat.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I would. It was a little expensive, which without the voucher might have put me off, but the quality was very good. I would definitely recommend it.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

The colour choice was a bit overwhelming but a great range to choose from. I knew I wanted a dark blue but there were loads of them so I took a while to decide! I really liked the light boxes and chose Blue Moon Glow in the end. Service was fine, staff were friendly and efficient. I loved the colour when I opened the tin and love it even more on the wall - it is exactly what I wanted and true to the sample card.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

I painted one wall of our bedroom - we have just bought our first house and our room was bottom of the priority list as usual, I've spent the last few months slaving over various other rooms but when I got the voucher I thought I'd treat us for a change so we can have a nice bedroom for the first time ever (a lifetime of living in rubbish rentals until now).

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I liked the roller and brushes - I have done a lot of decorating recently and the Valspar ones are some of the better quality ones I have used. Opening the tin was simple compared to the faffing that I usually have to do. The paint went on without much dripping, I didn't get any brush bristles coming off on the wall (perhaps a first for me) although a bit of roller fluff did come off. The paint consistency quite thick so it was a bit slow going, I did two coats and when wet the paint looked alarmingly patchy and messy showing up every imperfection in my poor quality wall. I was a bit worried but it was fine once dry thankfully. It does still need a bit of touching up after two coats which I haven't got round to yet but it is a dark colour over white so that's probably why. Overall I found it quite easy to use and good quality but a little time consuming. I didn't find it any more difficult to clean off brushes and the roller (and my hands and arms) than other paint I have used.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

I would like to use it again as I really like the choice of colours but it is a bit pricey for me at the moment. I'll probably be back on the cheaper own brands (and rubbish colour selections Sad) the next time I buy paint, but if I can afford it in the future I will definitely consider valspar.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample?

We chose a few colours from the colour guide book and popped in to B&Q to pick up the sample chips. We chose from the list of colours recommended for Rooms with no natural light. The light boxes helped us further understand which colours would look best in the space. After a couple of days of looking at the colours in situ, we chose 'Mind your Beeswax'

Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

The colour is lovely and is a true match with the sample chip. In store, it was unclear how I could get hold of the paint and had to hunt for someone to ask who then mixed the colour without any problems. The brushes and rollers were not easy to spot, I walked past them twice before asking a member of staff where to find them!

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

We decorated our stairs and landing. The wallpaper had been there since before we moved in 6 years ago and was looking mucky and torn in places. It also made the space seem quite dark.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I was seriously impressed! I normally buy the cheapest paint but am now converted to valspar! The paint is a little more expensive but it goes on so easily and you have to use very little to get great coverage! The brushes were easy to work with and as long as you kept it topped up
with enough paint, the roller worked well too. If there wasn't enough paint on the roller, bits of it came off all over the wall and had to be carefully removed! This was no longer a problem once I realised why it was happening and kept the roller topped up.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely, it was so easy to use and promises to be durable and easy to keep clean. The colour is lovely and really brightens up our stairs and landing.

Photos are: before, after the wallpaper had been stripped and after painting.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

I chose from the rack of colours. There is a lot to choose from but it I found that great. I have a small B&Q locally so there were no light boxes to check it against but that was fine. I was very happy with the colour it was just what we wanted. The msn who served us was very helpful and let DD watch him make the paint up. He also informed me that even though I was getting matt paint it was still washable.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

I decorated DD's bedroom as it had not been done since she was a baby.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The paint was great to use, very thick and the coverage was good from one coat, the second coat just finished it nicely. I usually buy cheaper brands but this is worth the money in my opinion. The valspar brushes were great for cutting in, lovely soft bristles. Unfortunately I had to give up on my roller as it kept leaving bits of fluff on the wall.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why no

I would definitely use the paint again even though it is a lot more expensive than the brands I usually use. It is an excellent quality product and worth the money. I will be recommending it to my friend who is going to be painting a new house soon.

After photos.

  1. I colour matched my paint . Both colours matched really well. Did look at the range of paint colours. My children enjoyed looking at the different names and gutted we didn't go with Dark Chocolate!
  2. I decorated my little hall, which is where the children hang bags and coats and gets a lot of traffic. Will be really testing the scrubability here! If it proves to do the job, I will most likely do the large hall too.
  3. I went for the Matt finish, and very pleased with it. Paint covered well which is a job in its self with my walls! It's very thick paint, easy to use. Definitely needed two coats, but the second coat was more of a finisher. The paint seems to be well pigmented so the stronger colour I used looks very effective. I struggled slightly with replacing the lid on the paint after a few uses.
  4. I will definitely use this paint again. Especially if it is as hardwearing as promised. I was very impressed with the colour match and very pleased with my end result. Thank you

My voucher never arrived and HQ didn't respond to my email so unfortunately despite being a tester I am unable to comment on how good Valspar is. A real shame as I was looking forward to trying it.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

First coat has gone on today - I found it a lot thicker than other paints which meant that it didn't drip (I still managed to get it all over my hands though!). No rollers in B&Q yet so I used the brushes - will need a second coat as I was painting over blue walls with a light pink.
I'm hoping to apply the second coat with the roller.

Not sure whether photos will show the effect - I'll try and pst them later.

dorotheamink · 06/04/2017 16:11

I was very excited to hear that I had been selected

  1. Choosing colours: I chose a colour I had already used as an accent colour in my little boy's room as it's such a great shade, Found Treasure, in mid-sheen. I used the Valspar app to see if other colours were better and found it really useful. It was particularly good to take it on my phone when I went to B+Q so I could show them what I wanted really quickly. (High praise for B+Q by the way, super friendly and quick).
  2. Room: I decorated our kitchen. It's a fairly small space but is used very heavily and roughly. It's the main entrance to the house and being quite small, furniture knocks the walls fairly regularly and food has been known to go on walls due to a toddler living in the house. I wanted to redecorate the walls anyway, so this was the perfect opportunity to do it and use paint which says it is designed for a busy household.
  1. Overall experience using the paint: unfortunately a bit mixed. It goes in beautifully and the roller and brushes are great. However, I'm really disappointed that I've done 3 coats and the previous colour (a pale pea green) is still showing through. I'm now at the stage where I am going to have to buy another can of paint to finish the job, which is not what I expected with the product, which says it's a primer as well as a paint. If the initial colour of the walls was a strong one, I would expect 2 or 3 coats but I think 4 to cover a light colour is not great.
That said, I'm looking forward to seeing how durable the paint is, and whether it really is scrubbable as it claims. I will be buying another can to finish the job but this was a major disappointment.
  1. I think I would think very carefully if I was to use this paint again. I have used Valspar before (but not this high quality one) and it took 3 coats to cover a pale colour, so I was optimistic that this better quality one would be an improvement. As it's not, I couldn't recommend it to others. That said, as above, I'm looking forward to seeing how robust it is in a busy space.

My photos show the walls before the project and then afterwards with 3 coats of paint. For some reason I could only upload 3 pictures at a time so will post again with the remaining photos.

Thanks for this opportunity to have a go with this paint 😀

. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

We chose from the colour rack (summer rain). We had excellent service and very knowledgeable staff.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

We decorated our living room. We had been talking for some time about adding a colour to make a feature wall.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

We had a very positive experience using Valspar paint. The paint was much thicker than other brands. The coverage was great, we almost only gave one coat it covered that well, but decided on a second coat to be sure. Using the Valspar brushes and roller there was very little shedding of the roller and none off the brush. We had no splatters either.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

We would definitely consider using Valspar paint in smaller rooms, the quality really was great. However to paint a larger room would be very costly.

  1. Choosing the colour was very easy, lots of colours to choose from in my local B & Q. I loved the different light that helped you see what the colour picked would look like under natural light or energy saving light. I chose from their range and picked a light blue / green colour.

There was no one manning the valspar area and they didn't answer the bell to call for assistance. My local B&Q is a small one which may have been the reason, but help came quickly after we found an member of store staff to get the right person for us.

If I hadn't been doing the test, I might have got a bit fed up that they didn't respond to the bell and when we got them they hardly spoke to us at all not even to give advice when I was unsure which of the three finishes to go for.

  1. I chose my utility room, I was going to do my backroom come playroom but the paint wouldn't have gone far enough as it is a large room. My utility room hasn't been painted for 8 years and the white walls were white with lots of mucky marks on and is a bright south facing room.

  2. The paint covered well, we would probably get away with 1 coat as painting over a light colour but I intend to do a second coat once the children are back in school and are no longer trying to help.

It covered all the marks first time and I loved the quality of the valspar brushes and rollers the only reason we are doing a second coat is to cover any bits my helpers missed.

  1. I would definitely use again, the pain has no odor, covers well and has wide range of colours to choose from, however it is more expensive than own brand paint. Time will tell if I will be able to wash marks off like they promise which would make it value for money.

I will try and add a few pictures tomorrow, and again after the second coat.

Sixgeese · 06/04/2017 16:37

A few of my pictures. It is a hard room to take photos in as it is a sunny room, but will try at a different time of day after the second coat after Easter.

How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?
I chose a colour from the rack. I knew I wanted white, and it was really helpful to have different shades of white with their matching colours. I like whites with a hint of green, and it was easy to spot these, as they were sat with the green cards.

Which room did you decorate and why?
The kitchen. We recently updated the floor and changed the fireplace tiles, and it needed painting to finish it off.

Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.
It was a pleasure picking a colour in store, and the service was great at my local B&Q. The application was a lot easier than a Dulux paint I'd used fairly recently, which was a welcome relief. It wasn't as thick and gloopy, but still had good coverage.

Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?
I would consider using this paint again, although it is similar in price to Farrow and Ball, and I still think Farrow and Ball is my favourite all round. I would definitely consider using this Valspar paint again though, if I wanted a colour I couldn't find with F&B. Having said that, F&B isn't marketed as being hard wearing, so it will be interesting to see over time how easy it is to clean and maintain this Valspar paint, with a dog who likes to shake his mud everywhere!

Loved the choice of colours and the different light boxes; but were there really 2000 colours?? Seemed more like 200 odd to me, maybe my store is smaller?
Valspar rep very knowledgable though and keen to advise of the different finishes and benefits of the brand.
Was very kind and patient to a very stressed family in front of me who took a long time deliberating over silk versus Matt.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

I chose the downstairs loo, as it is neglected and never really loved. Small enough to paint the whole room with one tin of paint

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

Loved the paint. Didn't have that usual "fumes" scent you get from other brands. Went of so smoothly, it was almost creamy. Was dubious about not needing a primer but it worked perfectly. So pleased

Absolutely. Already started raving about it to my Friends and family. Yes it's expensive. But I think it's worth it

Before and after of the walls- pale yuck to fern green. Gorgeous!!!

With son's old room having gradually morphed into the junk room, I am so thankful to have the opportunity to turn it into a refreshed, relaxing bedroom for other half and I.

Carefully chose my Valspar v700 Walls and Ceiling paint, picked up my fab roller set and brushes & just had to wait till my day off to get the room gutted.

Three bin bags & several boxes later, it's all ready to get painted on Sunday!

Can't believe I'm sharing the first photo! These are the Dear-God Before, and the Ready-To-Go Before. Will complete survey & post after pics on Sunday or Monday when completed.

My shade: Stay Awhile (a beautiful sky blue) in matte finish. Photos are before, after 1 coat and after 2 coats.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

I popped in and chose a selection of chips to compare at home. The light boxes in store are great, I ruled out a number of colours that looked right under bright shop lighting but were too dark under energy saving bulb & daylight.
When I went back to get the paint and accessories I was really pleased with the service at my local B&Q (Taunton branch), Pat, the lady who served me was very helpful and knowledgeable about the properties of the paint. She checked I was applying it to the right kind of base paint (as matte won't cover satin well), and advised that after 2 weeks it should be properly scrubbable.
The colour was a perfect match to the paint chip, and I was shown the colour once mixed to confirm.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

I decorated our very unloved spare room (aka clutter room), to make it into a playroom for now and in time it will be a ‘proper’ first bedroom for our 11 month old boy. We wanted to use durable paint as inevitably he'll batter it over the next few years, so this was the perfect opportunity to get cracking.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

I found the plastic tub easy to open, sometimes plastic ones are awkward but I had no problems.
The paint has a good thick consistency so no drips on the carpet or in my hair which was great! It goes on well with both roller and brush, and coverage is excellent. One thin coat pretty well covered up the original purple colour leaving just a few patchy bits, and there was plenty left in the tub for a second coat and the other walls. I'll be able to do the whole room - a good size double - with the one 2.5l tub.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Definitely, I'll be buying this paint for future decorating projects. I was keen to try as it seemed expensive compared to the type of mid range paint we usually buy but I love the possibilities of the infinite colour range. The paint itself is much better quality and as you use less paint it's better value than it seems on the face of it.

  1. How did you find choosing your colour? Did you choose from the 2,000 colours on the chip rack or did you match a colour sample? Were you happy with the colour of the paint and the service you received?

We had our paint matched from the farrow and ball colour chart. We went for the colour cornforth white (which, confusingly, isn't white at all! )
The colour match is really good and the service in store was very efficient. Finding everything I needed in my local b&q was really easy.

  1. Which room did you decorate and why?

We chose the master bedroom as although I'm very much a Matte white walls kind of person it had started to look a bit grubby and bland.

  1. Please describe the overall experience of using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint, thinking about the application and product quality.

The paint applied really well. We only painted one wall but we only used about a third of the tin for the first coat. We possibly could have got away with just the one coat as it applied so evenly, though that might have been our perfectly smooth walls. H was very impressed by the lack of splatter (so was I, He didn't put a sheet down!) He was disappointed with the roller though. It left purple fluff all over the nicely painted walls!

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Absolutely. The coverage was really great and being able to colour match is brilliant. We need to paint the rest of the house now so will definitely be checking out this paint again soon.

Anyway...
The kids checking he's mixing the right colour, the before and the after (before I put the pictures up because I could only find one hook Grin )

We chose from the test cards. Its an amazing range (made me giddy with happiness haha) and the 'light source box' was invaluable.
I wanted to do the living room but it needed re-wallpapering and we didn't have enough time til feedback so we did the hallway.
B & A had sold out of rollers and brushes but our existing ones seemed to do a good job, minimal splashing, only needed one coat as out went over a pale colour, good coverage.

  1. Would you consider using Valspar Premium Blend v700 Walls & Ceilings Paint in your home again? If so, why? If not, why not? It was more expensive than other non brand paints so I couldn't afford to paint our whole living room I don't think unless on an offer but it did cover nicely and it'll be interesting to see how washable it is with foody hand prints. On a smaller project or room I would recommend it.

First of all thank you so much for this wonderful opportunity to test Valspar paint.

  1. I usually stick to white or magnolia for decoration due to ease of application but for the purposes of this test I decided to go for a more adventurous colour. I had lots of fun choosing a colour and picked lots of paper swatches to try to find an exact shade to match the new curtains. I would like to mention that the finished result was the exact match to the paper swatch which would give me confidence in the future that there would be no surprises.
  2. We just finished converting a garage into our future bedroom and already chose the curtains. All the walls were predictably magnolia so i felt that it would be nice to try a darker shade as it is a bedroom. I chose Cocoa Berry.
  3. You could tell that it was a quality paint as it was quite thick in texture and it was not dripping. The coverage was very good even after one coat. It did dry very quickly so we could get on with the second coat shortly. I have to mention Valspar roller and brushes. They are brilliant, i will definitely buy them in future rather than buying the cheapest
  4. I was very happy with the overall process from choosing the paint to the completed result. The colour looks exactly like I imagined. Even a novice like me can achieve an even non-patchy coverage. Overall Valspar paint was easy to work with and will get top marks from me along with Valspar rollers and brushes.

Before photograph, waiting for the new plaster ( over the old fire) to dry before sanding it down.
