This is the feedback thread of the 500 Mumsnetters who are testing PitROK Extra Sensitive deodorant.

Here’s what PitROK have to say: “It’s a sensitive time being a New Mum. It can bring wonders and joy; but also nagging questions about our children’s environment and what’s good for our bodies. We spoke to 641 New Mums, and over 40% of them told us they had changed their Deodorant around this time to stop the irritation some Antiperspirants can cause; whilst enabling their bodies to perform more naturally. At PitROK we’ve been making naturally effective deodorant for over 20 years and many people swear by them. Please try our new Extra Sensitive deo - it’s been especially formulated by a Mum for New Mums.”

Testers, now that you've been testing the product for 3-4 weeks and given your first impressions on PitROK Extra Sensitive, we'd like you to complete this survey and answer the questions below:

  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?
  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

If you have any trouble with using the product or have any queries about PitROK Extra Sensitive whilst you’re testing, feel free to use PitROK’s Ask Alison feature where they will be able to answer your questions.

All testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Boots voucher.

Thanks, and good luck!

I was unsure of the bump action due to only ever using a roll on or aerosol deodorant before . I am not a fan of the fragrance as it's very chemical and have found it doesn't last all day . I do however love the packaging x

summeraupair · 16/09/2016 18:12

I've been using this for a few days now, during my last few days at work before maternity leave. I've got to say it's not really stood up to hectic shifts in a cafe (in a heatwave!). However it does seem to already be helping to clear up the bad skin on my underarms, so I'm looking forward to seeing how it holds up now I'm going to be quite a lot less active!

Whenasuitcasejustwontdo · 16/09/2016 18:59

I admit, I was dubious when I received this deodorant. I have used other salt deodorant recently and after a few weeks have been left disappointed (as well as smelly!).
This differs to others I've used through application; the previous ones I've tried are almost a lump of salt in a cylinder shape, where it needs to be applied with water. I like the spray feature of the pitrok, as I don't need to mess about in the bathroom with it. It does take a while to dry but seems effective.
I'm not sure about the smell, it reminds me of my favourite sea salt candle which is great to smell in the house but maybe not on myself! However, with the recent heatwave we've had, I have to say it's held up with the likes of Mitcham! It'll be interesting to see how it reacts with my skin with long term use.

So far, so good.

runningaftermydreams · 16/09/2016 19:30

My first impressions are that the bottle needs improving to stop it from leaking!! The actual product smell I find quite neutral smelling which I like. Ive used it so far for 2 days on very humid days and so far seems to be holding up. I haven't had to reapply or leave me smelling a bit odd (which some other leading brands do... but it is early days) . It hasn't reacted with my skin or left me itchy as yet.

lastnightiwenttomanderley · 16/09/2016 19:40

Like others, I also had a leaky bottle and was a bit perplexed by the double lid.
We only use natural cleaning and beauty products so are used to things not having an overpowering fragrance but I found the slightly 'fusty' aroma (which smells to me like fresh Aloe Vera?) offputting - most of the natural products we use have lavender or tea tree to give a slightly fresher smell.
Seems to stand up to the heat well though, having had a very warm week. Looking forward to seeing how it performs over the next few weeks.

Sleeplessinmybedroom · 16/09/2016 19:44

I've used this for the first time today so thought I'd give my initial feedback.

I don't like the two lids, it makes it more complicated than it needs to be. I don't like the scent at all, maybe I will get used to it as the trial goes on. I didn't know how much to spray on so I think I applied too much and it dripped down my side and it took ages to dry.

As far as an antiperspirant goes it's doing that job nicely. I've been to a baby music class, ran around after the kids and done the 30 day shred and I haven't smelt or sweated at all. I've been paranoid all day that I smell and poor Dp has had to keep sniffing me to check.

Helloooomeee · 16/09/2016 20:30

I'm on day 5 of using this product and I love it! I was dubious about it to begin with, I usually use strong chemical antiperspirant deodorants like Mitcham and did not think this would hold up against them.... but I actually think it's better. It's been really hot this week and I've been busy out and about, yes, I've been sweaty at times but I've not been smelly!

Lookinatu · 16/09/2016 20:38

First impressions I love the design and packaging, I agree with some other posters about the two lids and I was surprised it was a liquid spray I have never seen one before. So I have applied it after a shower and because there is no cold aerosol feeling I missed a little bit so I will look next time. I find I don't have that horrible chalky feeling which is nice and I feel dry with no redness or heat. Will continue to use and feedback again.

biscuiteer · 16/09/2016 22:01

First impressions were nice packaging-like the design, not sure why two lids. I use after shower. First 2-3 days I wasn't used to the amount of spray that comes out of nozzle. It seems not enough comes out so I've tended to use more than I need and then underarms feel too wet. Not great when getting ready for work bBUT I have got used to how much I need to use now and this isn't really aproble. Just need 2 sprays so I think it would last a fair while.
The scent-can hardly smell anything and that is good for me. Have absolutely horrendous pregnancy rhinitis which is why I signed up to try it and I can't use perfumed aerosols at the mo. It hasn't set off the rhinitis at all or caused any kind of reaction, and I'm going to continue to use this throughout pregnancy. Fantastic result.
Effectiveness so far-it does its job and that's been through 2 extremely hot days this last week. Pregnancy is making me feel very hot but again it's working well. Will continue to use every day and keep updating.

Pickofthepops · 16/09/2016 22:11

Really thrilled - I seem to have a chemical allergy / sensitivity and my aerosol deodorants have been harsh on throat and nose. This is so delicate but effective. Am quite a perspires usually and the PitROK has managed to contain this. Looks pretty too.

hancockja · 16/09/2016 22:28

On looking at the packaging, I thought it was simple but effective. Nice and clean. I was shocked to see slump rather than a spray and this does take a few days to get used too. It does dry, but I think it takes longer to dry than a minute that the bottle suggests. My underarms do feel less sensitive and on a normal day there wasn't an issue with smell. However, after a day of having a very upset DS unable to put him down and combine that with a very warm day, I needed a shower desperately at 5pm when my DH came home from work. So I do fee that it doesn't give full protection.

pinkfoxes · 16/09/2016 22:31

Like other posters have said the pump rather than the spray does take some time to get used to and I find the double cap a bit of a faff. That actual product is Europe by well for me, surprising as I thinking quite sweaty!. I am enjoying using something natural, especially while breastfeeding.

BowiesJumper · 16/09/2016 22:40

I like the packaging and the bottle, the spray works well and I like that it isn't an aerosol. I have been using the product for just over a week and that is through a couple of the hottest days of the year (30+ degrees). I usually wear an anti-persperant, so it is a change to wear a natural deoderant. I did feel a bit sticky (ie sweaty!) under the arms but am told I didn't smell! So from that perspective that's good! I will keep on using it and see how I get on!

Bringmewineandcake · 16/09/2016 22:54

Like other posters I also dislike the initial smell when I've sprayed it on but it does wear off quite quickly. The packaging is attractive. I was concerned about how wet it would be as it's a spray rather than an aerosol, but it dries off in not too much time. I've been pleasantly surprised so far with how well it lasts. My usual deodorant has pretty much worn off by early evening. Pitrok has not done so, I had a sniff when I got back from a sunny walk round the shops yesterday and there was no smell there at all. I will try to give it a more energetic test in the next week or so and see how it goes.

anonymice · 16/09/2016 23:06

Been using this three days now. Two caps are very fiddly as others have said. Love the smell though and I have got used to the spray and now do not spray too much on. Its been really hot here over the last few days and I have been walking about a lot. I am not odour free by the end of the day but my first impressions are that this product is working very well given the hot conditions !

lilwelshyrs · 16/09/2016 23:10

So far I really like the product. I am a mum to a 10 month old and I also ride my horse daily. My skin is quite sensitive since having had my son and I have noticed that my underarms are much less irritated than with normal spray deodorants I've used. I don't feel concerned that what I'm spraying shouldn't be in the same room as my son either!
I've not really noticed a smell to the deodorant which is totally fine. I have applied it to both lovely clean fresh skin from the shower and not so fresh and I find that I still get no nasty odours! Even after riding my horse in the heat these last few days I've not noticed any embarrassing smells which I am really happy about!

The product feels light on my skin and I'm not worried about white marks on my clothes either.

I find the double lid is irritating but the larger lid has doubled up as a source of entertainment for my son which is always helpful! You definitely can't subtly spray your underarms whilst wearing clothes as I find the coverage isn't enough but maybe after a couple of weeks, I'll be getting out of that habit anyway!

snowymum12 · 17/09/2016 08:15

I've tried it for 4 days so far and I too am not a fan of how wet the product feels. I haven't noticed that the product has any fragrance, as such, and I think I need to give it a bit more time before I get the full benefit. I have always liked strong fragrance with my deodorant so aren't used to nothing. Having said that, I haven't felt overwhelmingly stinky, which, given how hot and sticky it's been, must be a positive.

usernamewastooobv · 17/09/2016 09:09

Initial impression is good. I usually use an aerosol as I dislike the wet feeling of a roll on so was dubious about a pump spray. However, using only a few sprays it doesn't take more than a few minutes to dry. There is a distinct smell on application but once dried, I could not smell anything. So far I haven't been doing anything too strenuous and it has kept me dry and non-smelly all day. It will be interesting to see how it continues to perform over the next few weeks.

TeddyIsaHe · 17/09/2016 09:15

First impressions are rather good so far. I haven't noticed any scent, even with my bloodhound pregnancy nose! It's easy to apply, I like the spray nozzle as I can tell exactly how much I'm putting on. I'm not used to feeling damp as usually use an anti-perspirant, but after a couple of days use I didn't notice it. Had my DP do a sniff test at the end of the day, and so far so good. Loving that I'm not using strange chemicals whilst I'm pregnant.

But the major plus point so far has to be with my psoriasis. It's usually kept under control with strong steroids, but since getting pregnant, have obviously had to stop using them. This results in red, dry, scaly under arms which react awfully to most deodorants. This hasn't caused a single reaction, doesn't sting, and has left me with armpits that don't look as sore and horrid as usual. Which is such a bonus, especially with the short-sleeve weather at the minute!

Pinklady1981 · 17/09/2016 10:51

First impressions,i really like the look of the product and colour. Initially the smell put me off but after using for a week you get used to it. Dry quite quickly. I did feel fresh and clean all day, even after my workout! It did sting a little after i have shaved my arm pits. Overall a good product and i would recommend.

twolittleboysonetiredmum · 17/09/2016 10:52

First impressions aren't great sadly. I really loved the packaging, it looks fresh and appealing. The list of ingredients was pleasing too as i think it's some of the chemicals in standard deodorants that have irritated my skin. I quite like the method of application too, though it felt damp at first which is a bit unpleasant. The smell is quite odd and I found it didn't fade much. I've started testing over a very humid week which may have been unfair. I found by the middle of the day that I smelt quite bad - a combination of the odd smell of the product and my own odour. I reapplied a few times but it didn't have much effect. It hasn't irritated my skin though which is a plus.
However, it's meant to be accumulative so I shall persist. And stay away from my colleagues!

littlemouse15 · 17/09/2016 11:10

Onfirst impressioins the Product looks well designed, Pretty Design, I dont mind the two lids as if i loose one I have a back up! I do find it has an odd smell to start with and it says use on clean armpits but with a young baby I dont always have the time to shower in the mornings so its not always possible for them to be totaly clean and a quick wipe before i apply has to surfice, seems ok so far at keeping stinks at bay

ValiaH · 17/09/2016 11:12

First impressions- the packaging is nice, it's easy to spray, and it smells nice. I wasn't prepared for how runny it was and managed to spray all down my arm the first time I used it! It feels fresh and nice, and am klooking forward to seeing how it works over the long term, I tend to sweat a lot and use maximum strength cream deodorant/ anti perspirants to keep the pong at bay so I'm hoping this will be a good alternative.

ilovemonsters · 17/09/2016 12:01

I love the packaging and the light scent and the way it feels when it goes on but I'm not impressed by the coverage so far, I've felt a bit smelly after s few hours each day I've used it and had to resort to using my usual deodorant the other day as I needed to be somewhere formal and I didn't want to risk smelling sweaty during the time.

I know there is supposed to be a period of time to wait until tour previous deodorant has left your skin completely but I don't feel I could be sweaty for that length of time before it becomes more effective. Shane as I love natural products and really wanted to love this but I just need more coverage than this is offering.

mummytobecabz · 17/09/2016 12:33

First impressions:
I was a bit unsure about it being unscented as im used to scented products but i have been pleasantly surprised by how well it works, its been a hot few days and so far have had no complaints from my other half about my odour! I was surprised to find it being a spray bottle instead of an aerosol but i now prefer this and feel its easier to apply this way, i look forward to testing it further xx
