This is the feedback thread of the 500 Mumsnetters who are testing PitROK Extra Sensitive deodorant.

Here’s what PitROK have to say: “It’s a sensitive time being a New Mum. It can bring wonders and joy; but also nagging questions about our children’s environment and what’s good for our bodies. We spoke to 641 New Mums, and over 40% of them told us they had changed their Deodorant around this time to stop the irritation some Antiperspirants can cause; whilst enabling their bodies to perform more naturally. At PitROK we’ve been making naturally effective deodorant for over 20 years and many people swear by them. Please try our new Extra Sensitive deo - it’s been especially formulated by a Mum for New Mums.”

Testers, now that you've been testing the product for 3-4 weeks and given your first impressions on PitROK Extra Sensitive, we'd like you to complete this survey and answer the questions below:

  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?
  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

If you have any trouble with using the product or have any queries about PitROK Extra Sensitive whilst you’re testing, feel free to use PitROK’s Ask Alison feature where they will be able to answer your questions.

All testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Boots voucher.

Thanks, and good luck!

I was a bit unsure how this would perform when it arrived as i am used to the heavily perfumed aerosol sprays and this is neither of these things. The smell is not that pleasant when applied but i would it keeps away bad odour and keeps me dryer than normal. So far so good

MumzieMel · 16/09/2016 08:59

Really not keen on the smell at all but love the fact that it's so natural and would definitely of used this while pregnant. Arm pits feel nice and soft and it sticky which is what I usually get with my daily roll on. Seems to keep the odour at bay but not tried in the gym yet so that will be the real test.

malin100 · 16/09/2016 09:48

The two lids annoyed me a bit. I take one off and go to use it and then remember the clear one. I generally dislike excessive packaging for environmental reasons so that crosses my mind too.

When spraying on, it sometimes runs down my body in a drip that I have to clear up, just because it goes on like water. Maybe I need to be confident enough to just use one spray under each arm.

Otherwise, it seems like a nice product and I'm aware my body will need to adjust from using 48hr antiperspirant deodorants and "de-clog" my pores so I'll reserve judgement on sweating for a few weeks until that has happened.

Kione · 16/09/2016 09:56

I don't like the two tops either, I just don;t use the small second one.
I am not keen on the scent but it is not strong at all, so not a huge problem.
I feel I am not totally odorless at the end of the day but I am used to heavy duty deodorants. It is not too bad, I really have to sniff to get some smell and I am happy to put up for this for a aluminium free deodorant.
The aluminium free I tried before were much worse, it was like I had applied nothing. I think one of them was from this brand, but it was a clear rock in a bottle where you added the water.
But I want to keep using it as I understand it takes a couple of weeks for the pores to clear etc.

Received this a few days ago and looked forward to trying it.

First impressions:

  • packaging is a bit insipid. Not sure it would draw my eye in a shop.
  • double lids? Not sure why this is necessary. I have discarded the smaller one.
  • smell. Very subtle smell which I actually find very pleasant. Almost a spa type smell I think.
  • usage. Quite alarmed the first time to feel so wet on applying it. As a pp has said the spray is quite narrow so you have to spray several times to cover the armpit meaning it ends up running down my sides. Not a massive issue though. Doesn't take long to dry (once I've wiped down my sides!).
  • staining. Absolutely no chance of this staining clothing - although I've always waited until it was completely dry before eating dressed.
  • effectiveness. I'm used to using an anti-perspirant rather than a deodorant so was worried that this wouldn't keep me dry, so far I haven't noticed any difference to my usual anti perspiring anyway. However there is absolutely no odour by the end of the day - something that since having DD I have been self conscious about. I feel very fresh and actually fragrant at the end of the day.

I have so far only tried this in fairly mild (chilly) weather and under normal circumstances (sitting at a desk most of the day) but overall I'm quite impressed.

Will be happy to keep using it for the duration of the test period.

MilkyMamma · 16/09/2016 10:33

I don't think the 2 lids thing should be a big deal, I imagine it's so it doesn't leak in transit, with it being none pressurized liquid.

I've chucked the little one and just replace the green one, job done.

ProbablyMe · 16/09/2016 11:04

First impressions -

Slightly boring packaging

Spray only covers a small area so a few sprays necessary

Works very well against sweaty smells!! Tested during the recent mini heatwave and it's been great! No smelly armpits and since I've used it around my boobs as well no slightly cheesy cleavage by the end of the day! I'm actually very impressed having been a little cynical to begin with.

Laineypopps · 16/09/2016 11:09

On first impression, I found the packaging attractive and I liked the pump spray rather than aerosol. I feel there is more control over how much of the product you can use in this format. I found a slightly odd smell when first applied but this faded as the deodorant dried. Up until now I have found the product to be effective and I my underarm skin is looking decidedly healthier after using for past 5 weeks. I suffer from blocked pores and ingrown hairs frequently in my underarms and have had no issues since using Pitrok. It also appeals to me, as a breastfeeding mum, that there are no chemical nasties within this product. Weather has been cool here and product has been effective to date but I will continue to test to see effectiveness in a range of situations.

doctorboo · 16/09/2016 11:13

When the PitRock deodorant arrived I was surprised that it was a spray bottle - I think I was expecting something like the rock sticks I used in the 90's & noughties.
I thought the double cap was a good idea, but I've managed to lose the smaller lid already.
The smell of the spray is ok, once it's dried I can't smell very much, which is nice.
I've found that the spray runs down my side if I'm too vigorous with it so I've been experimenting with how hard I should push the pump cap.
It takes longer than a couple of minutes to dry on me which is a pain as I need to get ready quickly mon-fri to my three boys out of the house for school.
I'm a very erm, sweaty and whiffy person at the first hint of heat or exercise - I spent time in SE Asia in 2010 and no one sweated or smelt like me Blush
As it's been so blooming hot here I've been worried about how I'd cope/smell. My normal 48hr antiperspirant doesn't keep me sweat or BO free and so far, I do smell at the end of the day and am having to wash my clothes at a higher heat to combat it. Hopefully when the declogging finishes and the 4 weeks in up I won't smell so badly as my skin actually feels very smooth and I haven't had any skin issues.

CheeseEMouse · 16/09/2016 11:53

First impressions - I liked the pump spray and the idea that you could use this on your feet. It was mildly more time consuming waiting for the deodorant to dry, but that wasn't really a big problem. I agree with others that the two lids is a bit unnecessary.

I will be interested to see how I get on as sometimes I can get a bit hot and sweaty (commuting, hefting the children up to nursery etc). I normally use antiperspirant as I can be self conscious of that so we will see how we go...

parisgellar · 16/09/2016 11:57

Following on from my post yesterday, I've had a second try with this today, and had a lot more luck! I've done all sorts so far this morning and not smelly or sweating like yesterday. I don't think I let it dry properly yesterday, so it didn't work. Pleased to say that I like it.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 16/09/2016 12:20

I haven't given this as much of a chance as I should have. It's just SO slimy and does not make me feel fresh at all. It takes ages to dry, way more than the minute it states. Maybe I am putting on too much but the reach of the spray does not cover my whole underarm so I have to do more than one spray by which time it's dripping down my side.
You have to put it on straight after a shower so I haven't tested its effectiveness during workouts - I shower after the gym so therefore can't use this product, I use my regular deodorant for the gym.

BendydickCuminsnatch · 16/09/2016 12:21

Also mine doesn't have 2 caps / doesn't have a cap like in the picture Confused

BendydickCuminsnatch · 16/09/2016 12:23

Mine arrived like this

So far, so good! I'd probably like a bit more scent, but then realise it's meant to be unscented. I already use a natural deodorant, so not coming from a chemical use - but it seems to be more effective than the brand I was using. I usually get irritation when I've changed brands, but have had no problems at all!

I do could do without 2 lids - I think I'd ditch one of them, as too fiddly/slow to deal with both of them at once!

tazo5153 · 16/09/2016 12:34

The packaging is nice and it sprays easily. The smell reminds me nasal sprays but is not unpleasant. It takes quite a while to dry which can be a little bit annoying if you are in a hurry. I do miss having the antiperspirant addition to a deodorNt. It was 28• the first day I tried this and running around with a toddler and a crawling baby so was pretty sweaty. Although I did sweat by the evening I still just smelt like soap and not a trace of BO which was pretty impressive! Will see how it is after a few weeks

Nicnac81 · 16/09/2016 12:43

I quite like the smell an was surprised that it was a spray not an aerosol. I like the packaging.

I have been using it for nearly a week and it is as good as the roll on's I use especially during the past couple of hot days , although I am not usually a very sweaty person.

Because I'm not a naturally sweaty person I tend to only shower every couple of days, so it is a little annoying that I have to clean my armpits every time I use it

duggerlugs · 16/09/2016 12:44

I liked the pump spray instead of a traditional roll on. I wasn't keen on the inner lid due to how small it is and I would envisage a choking hazard for little ones if it got lost or dropped given the little time you have to actually get deodorant on etc when your child gets more active ( think someone else mentioned whether it was necessary).
Design and colour is nice and narural looking. It's taking a bit of.getting used to not having a scent at all apart from the neutral scent it has. So far it also seems to be keeping body odour away and we've had a fair few warm days in the north west.

sjonlegs · 16/09/2016 12:56

Didn't receive mine - as yet!

MadrigalElectromotive · 16/09/2016 13:01

My first impressions are that I like tha packaging and that it is a spray bottle rather than an aerosol. However, it says it is unscented but it has a very definite fragrance. Since having hyperemesis in pregnancy I am much more sensitive to smell and I find the smell of this product rather off putting. I used it for the first time yesterday and had no BO when I did a quick sniff test before my shower, so I'm happy from that point of view.

StillNoFuckingEyeDeer · 16/09/2016 13:39

Initial impressions:
Packaging is pleasant. I normally look for blue or while coloured deodorants because I tend to prefer the kind of fragrances that come in those colours.
I liked that it isn't strongly scented.
I normally use a roll-on, so the spray took a bit of getting used to. I overdid it initially and had it running down my side, but I quickly adapted.
I'm not ready to give any feedback about how effective it is yet, because I've been unusually active and it's been too humid to give a fair assessment. I haven't noticed that I've become particularly stinky, but I'll ask DH.

r0ck · 16/09/2016 14:22

First impressions - the bottle looks nice, attractive and uncomplicated design. The little lid inside the bigger lid doesn't stay on but that doesn't really cause me any bother.

I'm used to using a roll on deodorant so was a bit iffy as to whether a spray would give adequate protection but I can't say that I've noticed any better or worse performance than my usual deodorant (Mitchum). Not so keen on the advice to apply after a shower/bath, I usually wash at night time but obviously want to use this deodorant in the morning. That being said, it's performance doesn't seem to have been impacted by when I apply it.

A big 'but' for me - the smell. Really not a fan, perhaps it's because I usually use a scented deodorant so not used to the smell of one that is unscented but I find it is really not to my taste and if I was going to use this product permanently would be looking for one that smelt a lot more pleasant.

Khaleesi1315 · 16/09/2016 14:50

My first impression was much the same as others I loved the packaging it's bright colour means you notice it but it's not too in your face the double lid is ingenious with other deodorants the cap can fall off and if it's in a bag especially can end up spraying it does have a slight smell but it's not unpleasant and it does disappear as soon as it dries I've only been using it three days and already I see a massive improvement

SprogletsMum · 16/09/2016 14:55

First impression is that it smells vile! I put it on and felt sick for most of the day every time I moved I could smell it. I was also smelly by mid afternoon so I haven't persevered with it.
It's a shame because I love the idea of a natural deodorant and was so excited to try it. My bottle also leaked in transit.

AprilLoveJ · 16/09/2016 15:49

When I first opened the package and saw the logo I had a flashback. Many years ago I tried a natural deodorant that was basically a transparent hard crystal rock. I feel sure it was the same company? Either way I recall that one being sorely ineffective and binned it after a few weeks. I was very eager to try this natural liquid spray.

A quick scan of the ingredients first and I was very happy with the contents. Quite a lot of natural words there instead of an endless list solely made up of unpronounceable harsh chemicals. But would it work?

The first day I tried it was the day of my sil's baby shower, so no small challenge as I suffer from some degree of social anxiety. I can usually sweat buckets on occasions like this! FWIW I used to use the Mitchum spray before pregnancy, however my sweaty bo problems significantly escalated following my daughters birth and I have had to switch to Dricolor - an extremely strong deodorant for excessive perspiration! Although it is extremely effective it is very harsh and can cause awful itchy rashes, and I just detest using it in general as I am very into health and use natural products wherever possible (everything from body wash to laundry detergent) so an effective deodorant that is also natural would make me a very happy girl indeed, as well as lots of women I know!

At the end of the baby shower I nipped to the loo to smell my armpits all ladylike and was pleasantly surprised. I had a medium (not offensively strong) smell from one but no smell at all from the other, and both were pretty dry though maybe slightly tacky right in the middle, but nothing noticeable or uncomfortable feeling! I was very tentative using just one squirt that day too. (It is very runny and takes a minute to air dry!)

The following days were scorching and I used two sprays instead of one. There was a faint smell occasionally but overall pretty good and it's still only several days into using. So far I have been very pleased and hope it continues to get better so I can become a PitRok convert!

I also must say that I love the packaging, the design is pretty and the colour is just beautiful. I definately would have purchased this had I saw it in the supermarket or Boots.
