This is the feedback thread of the 500 Mumsnetters who are testing PitROK Extra Sensitive deodorant.

Here’s what PitROK have to say: “It’s a sensitive time being a New Mum. It can bring wonders and joy; but also nagging questions about our children’s environment and what’s good for our bodies. We spoke to 641 New Mums, and over 40% of them told us they had changed their Deodorant around this time to stop the irritation some Antiperspirants can cause; whilst enabling their bodies to perform more naturally. At PitROK we’ve been making naturally effective deodorant for over 20 years and many people swear by them. Please try our new Extra Sensitive deo - it’s been especially formulated by a Mum for New Mums.”

Testers, now that you've been testing the product for 3-4 weeks and given your first impressions on PitROK Extra Sensitive, we'd like you to complete this survey and answer the questions below:

  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?
  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

If you have any trouble with using the product or have any queries about PitROK Extra Sensitive whilst you’re testing, feel free to use PitROK’s Ask Alison feature where they will be able to answer your questions.

All testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Boots voucher.

Thanks, and good luck!

Final feedback from me is not great I'm afraid . I wanted to like it but it just didn't work for me . I always felt damp and by mid day everyday I was always smelly . I was using the product straight after showering in the morning as per the instructions and have tried using more product etc etcbut it just didn't seem to work at all.

I'm putting it down to my hormones at the minute due to breastfeeding two children (ages 2 and 8 months) as I have been having to reapply my usual product throughout the day due to excessive perspiration anyway.

Babyiwantabump · 16/10/2016 22:47

No problems with irritation and the subtle scent didn't bother me either

caromacx · 16/10/2016 22:56

I stopped using it after 2 weeks as I was finding it ineffective. I run regularly so need my deodorant to work hard! Also couldn't bear the smell. So disappointed as always looking for a decent natural deodorant.

  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?

Generally very favourable. Though I did get sweaty it didn't tend to smell. A sniff of a dress I wore at a particularly warm event the day after wearing was surprisingly fresh, and I wouldn't have found the same with my previous antiperspirant. But I noticed a couple of times when I got really stressed then I did smell so I assume that was hormonal somehow.
I do prefer a roll on - it just feels more 'secure' for want of a better word.
Would I buy again? Probably yes.

  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?
It stung a little the first time I used immediately after shaving but I think that was caused by a scratchy razor blade as once I'd swapped to a new blade the next time no problems. My armpits do feel a lot softer and less irritated than before. I wasn't expecting them to do so if I'm being honest so it's a pleasant surprise.

-What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?

I found this product to be extremely effective over the time I have been using it. In the first week we had very warm September weather and the product worked well in a very hot office but by late afternoon I felt a bit uncomfortable, but I think I would have felt this with whichever deodorant I was using.
I have rhinitis and needed and am 6 months pregnant and I needed something which wasn't going to make me sneeze all day or affect my eyes, which other perfumed deo sprays have been doing. This product has not affected or brought on the annoying rhinitis at all and this has been a god send! I would recommend this to anyone who has sensitive skin or a sensitive dust type allergy as well.
It's been very effective in keeping me dry and sneeze free.

  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

Again in terms of sensitivity, it has had a very positive effect on stopping the rhinitis I suffer from, so the immediate itchy eyes, nose and throat, sneezing and redness around my eyes after using a deodorant has ceased completely while using PitROK.. I do not suffer from underarm sensitivity.

I would definitely recommend this product to others who have more sensitive skin and as I said in initial feedback, once I worked out how much to spray on ( because at first I wasn't used to how much one spray covers and I think the spray top design needs tweaking so that it is less of a powerful spray! ) I've been using it every day and will continue to.

Poocatcherchampion · 17/10/2016 09:40

Its my final feedback and I don't feel like ive got anything too positive to say. I havent really got on with this for the reasons I said earlier and I guess that it would be different if I was a morning washer.

Intotheclouds · 17/10/2016 10:21

Final feed back
Not too impressed if I'm honest.
At first it seemed as though it was helping with my under arm irritation but after 2 weeks they were back to being red and angry. It took quite awhile for it to dry and quite often made my under arms chaf. Also I found that by mid day that I was starting to become smelly, that's with following the instructions and putting it on after showering.
I would prefer a deodorant that you can put on and get on with your day straight away, not having to keep your arms in the air for awhile while it drys.

  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?

I'm a little conflicted here. I like the idea of a natural product, but in reality, it just doesn't cut it for a bit of a sweaty Betty like me. Now the weather has cooled off I'm happier with its effectiveness at keeping the smell at bay, but during the hot weather it just didn't work for me and I was very self conscious. I think I will use it during cooler months, but revert to my good old antiperspirant. I'm sorry, I just can't cope with sweat patches.

  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

Yes! This is the part I am most thrilled with! I had very odd little discoloured bumps in my armpits. I think they were ingrown hairs. Pitrok has worked absolute wonders and my armpits are far less unsightly. It had got to the point where I avoided lifting my arms ffs, so I am so happy now.

To be honest, I will continue to use the product, but only during cooler months and only because of the effect it had on the appearance of my underarms. I'm afraid I didn't like anything else about it really. The name is pretty awful (sorry!), the packaging is meh, I don't like the pump spray, the double lid is weird, I disliked the time to dry and the fact it dribbled down my body, and the smell is a little odd. Eek. I sound like a complete cow, but despite all that I will use it again.

I am so grateful that I have been able to try the product and that it has worked to clear up my armpit issue! Thank you.

babyinthacorner · 17/10/2016 11:36

Final feedback:

Very happy with this product.
Pros:
It works! No body odour at all throughout the trial - even on the hot days at the beginning of September.
No cloud of chemicals for DD/my pregnant self to breathe in upon application.
Lasting well so far - no signs of running out anytime soon, so lasting much longer than normal deodorant spray.
Natural ingredients which will be good for breastfeeding when DC2 arrives.

Cons:
No fragrance - I do miss the smell of my old deodorant.
Feels uncomfortable when first applied - don't like the dripping/wet sensation.
2 lids - one of which came off during transit when posted. Would be worried it would leak during travel.

Overall, the pros outweigh the cons and I would be happy to buy the product at the RRP. The fact that it has no nasties in it is really important for me now, although I hadn't properly considered this before taking part in this trial.

Karanew · 17/10/2016 13:02

I have been using this now for a few weeks and it really has made a difference to my skin it's less irritated than before I think this deodorant works well gives great protection and keeps me fresh all day

Steph25x · 17/10/2016 13:50

First impressions of this product are I like the bottle shape and design, it's eye catching and pretty. After showering I applied it and liked that it was a spray bottle rather than an aerosol as it didn't leave a big cloud of deodorant when sprayed. I found the double cap a bit odd and unnecessary. I didn't like the smell of the product when initially sprayed but it did disappear after a couple of minutes. I'm not used to wearing unscented deodorants so I was a bit unsure about this as I do like a fresh scent to my deodorants. I found it took a good few minutes to dry which was a bit annoying if your in a hurry and can't yet put your clothes on. I did however like how gentle it was on my underarms as after shaving my underarms can get sore and red and traditional aerosol sprays can sting. This product soothed my underarms and there was no stinging. I found it lovely and gentle on sensitive underarm skin. My first day of using this product was a busy day for me as I was helping organise my nieces birthday party. I was rushing around, chasing after toddlers and in a hot play centre and I stayed surprisingly dry. However towards the end of the day I did start to smell a slight pong. I'm hoping continuing with this product though will stop this happening. So far quite mixed feelings about this product.

Helloheyhi · 17/10/2016 14:27

I have used it for a month now and I love it. I have noticed I no longer sweat so much under my arms and also the smell quickly disappears. Will buy in the future!

RedRoseMummy · 17/10/2016 15:10

I've been using the PitRok for over a month now and these are my positives:
My underarm skin feels healthier and softer
Shaving my under arm area has been less irritating to the skin in that area.
No cloud of spray as an aerosol releases which both me and my children can sometimes breathe in.
The product is long lasting, the bottle still has a good amount in even though I've used it at least once a day over the past few weeks.

Negatives:
It simply doesn't keep me dry all day and I've noticed that I can smell myself. This means I need to reapply and the process for doing so is fiddly. I need to wash my underarms, let them dry and then apply the PitRok and let it dry. I can't do this out and about so find myself reaching for a body spray or more perfume instead.
I find the two lids on the bottle fiddly, especially when rushing in the morning post-shower.
The scent isn't for me. I think I simply prefer a more perfumed product.

I think for me, as I'm 16 months into breastfeeding I might continue to use PitRok until I stop but I can't see me choosing it as an option longer term. I simply prefer the quick and ease of my usual deodorant.

Thanks for the opportunity to try it.

honeyharris · 17/10/2016 16:12

I really wanted to like this product as I'm planning to TTC in the near future and am looking for more natural products, plus I experience underarm irritation. However I was disappointed with it, mainly because I couldn't get used to still sweating and regularly felt that I was a bit whiffy. Although it was unpe4fumed I thought it had an odd smell that wasn't a particularly clean one, and it didn't stand up well enough to stressful situations, rushing about or exercise. I might consider using this again if I were pregnant in the winter but would have to use something else as well if I was going to meet friends or exercise. There's not a chance it would have coped with me breastfeeding and being a new mum as they were the sweatiest months I've experienced since puberty!

BadlyWrittenPoem · 17/10/2016 16:48

I've just had an email asking for final feedback. My feedback is that it is a totally impractical product for me during pregnancy as washing my armpits every day and then having to wait around for it to dry is just too much in the mornings when I am feeling particularly unwell. Considering it is being marketed specifically as being great for pregnancy I am very disappointed.

chillitrini · 17/10/2016 19:11

Great product, would recommend however it is on the slight expensive side.
Arm pit feels super soft. I'm not overly sold by it been liquid and the container leeks at times.

Stargirl84 · 17/10/2016 20:07

Final feedback - it made a big difference to general itchiness/discomfort under my arms.

I liked it and didn't have a problem with the fragrance, that's what perfume is for!

Bit on the pricey side though.

PrincessWellington · 17/10/2016 20:18

I can't get passed the smell of the product

no irritation

eternalopt · 17/10/2016 20:18

Been using it for a while now when I can. I say when I can, as it has to be applied to freshly washed skin, and sometimes my routine is to shower before bed rather than in the morning, depending on what time I have to be up and out the house with little one.

Didn't like the smell initially, as not a traditional deodorant scent, but got used to it. Did find it lingered on my clothes a bit though.

Seems very effective as a deodorant, but not noticed any difference to my actual skin.

Think the price point is going to be quite high so, whilst I liked it, I'm not sure how much extra I'd pay for it.

camperjam · 17/10/2016 21:00

What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?

I wasn't expecting to like it but I do. It has mild smell and it feels nice not spraying chemicals on myself.

  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

Definitely, especially after shaving

vickipickernicker · 17/10/2016 21:29
  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product? did increase in effectiveness over time.
  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation? didn't irritate even on newly shaved skin.
duggerlugs · 17/10/2016 21:33

I found the product quite good to use and as it's natural it feels better for you. Didn't notice a great difference in skin.
The frustration I have is the feedback others have given ...as a busy mum you don't get the lucity to shower each day or dry maybe as you would like to see the product at its best.

I didn't notice any change in sensitivity of my skin

Whenasuitcasejustwontdo · 17/10/2016 22:02
  1. I really liked this deodorant. I've used many different brands in the past, and generally never had a sweaty problem...other than when I tried to go natural with a salt block deodorant. I found that one awful which is why I wanted to try a different type. I barely sweat with this one however it's not as effective as a 'chemical' one, but only slightly noticeably so.
  1. One of the reasons for wanting to use a natural product was because I find deodorants very irritating, making me itchy and sore. That has completely disappeared since using this product! I'm amazed! I can even use it on freshly epilated underarms without any stinging. For this reason I'll buy it again. The price is very reasonable, and much cheaper than the salt rock I had used before.

The two caps did confuse me at first, until the inner one became crystallised! I guess the second one would protect surfaces should this be a common problem. I got used to the smell but this is what I would change if I could. Thanks for allowing me to try this out.

Lookinatu · 17/10/2016 23:27

After a few weeks of using this product, I felt it did not cause any irritation or reactions to my skin.
However I do miss having a nice smell and maybe if there was a fragraced range I would buy this product. I did find I smelt roughly 12 hours after applying the product and like some other posts it was not beneficial if you shower at night.

Hopelass · 18/10/2016 06:34

I thought it was very effective as a natural product. It did not exacerbate any underarm irritation and in fact made my skin better. It'd be nice if it were lightly fragranced and also a little cheaper. I think I'd be more likely to buy it on special offer than at the normal price.
