This is the feedback thread of the 500 Mumsnetters who are testing PitROK Extra Sensitive deodorant.

Here’s what PitROK have to say: “It’s a sensitive time being a New Mum. It can bring wonders and joy; but also nagging questions about our children’s environment and what’s good for our bodies. We spoke to 641 New Mums, and over 40% of them told us they had changed their Deodorant around this time to stop the irritation some Antiperspirants can cause; whilst enabling their bodies to perform more naturally. At PitROK we’ve been making naturally effective deodorant for over 20 years and many people swear by them. Please try our new Extra Sensitive deo - it’s been especially formulated by a Mum for New Mums.”

Testers, now that you've been testing the product for 3-4 weeks and given your first impressions on PitROK Extra Sensitive, we'd like you to complete this survey and answer the questions below:

  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?
  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation?

If you have any trouble with using the product or have any queries about PitROK Extra Sensitive whilst you’re testing, feel free to use PitROK’s Ask Alison feature where they will be able to answer your questions.

All testers who give the required feedback will be entered into a prize draw where one MNer will win a £300 Boots voucher.

Thanks, and good luck!

Final thoughts.

All in all a very good product. I will use it until my toddler is a bit older as I love the fact it's safe to use around her. Would also use it if I was pregnant again and had another baby. No irritation at all from the product.

Would prefer it to be a roll on rather than a spray as couldn't get used to the wetness. It held up through most of the test except for a couple of hot or busy days where I could small myself a bit.

All in all a very good product and would recommend.

fish88 · 14/10/2016 18:17

Positives: It seemed to do a good job of keeping away body odour. Neither myself or my partner noticed a smell even when it was a hot day. I'm breastfeeding and I liked the fact that it was natural ingredients and fragrance free when its so close to my baby's face. Didn't irritate my skin at all, could not tell it was there once dried.

Negatives: Did not like application, it always dribbles down my sides if I don't clamp my arms down quickly. Even though I didn't smell, I did get wet underarm patches when it was very hot.

Overall: I will continue to use the trial version but will not buy it afterwards. Whilst I'm on maternity leave I'm not too bothered about the odd wet patch but it wouldn't look very professional once back at work. I'm also put off by the dribbling liquid on application.

Final review
I have loved using this product and will be changing from my usual brand which is more expensive and doesn't last as long.
I think it's really good value for how long it's lasted and how effective it has been and as I'm breastfeeding have liked the idea of using less harsh chemicals. It hasn't caused me any irritation either. I'm really glad I did this product test because I find it very difficult to find an effective deodorant that suits me.

MumOfTwoMasterOfNone · 14/10/2016 18:20

Oh and I've already recommended it to family and friends!

littlemonkeymum · 14/10/2016 18:26

I was a bit apprehensive about using this product, especially when I was working long hours in high temperatures this Summer. I was actually pleasantly surprised at the product's effectiveness but having used it for a few weeks now I have found that I have missed the stronger deodorant fragrance which has reassured me that I'm not smelly!! It is also a bit wet for my liking; I wasn't sure if I was using too much but was reluctant to use less for fear of smelling... it is a little expensive for what it is but I did actually like it. The name could be better though!

justmeeee · 14/10/2016 18:27

Having used the product for a few weeks now I am unfortunately less impressed with it than I was. It is easy to spray and I still like the design and packaging but unfortunately it just doesn't prevent or mask my natural odour which develops during the day! If it had a fragrance that would help but unfortunately despite loving the ethos of the product, I've had to go back to my usual antiperspirant roll on.

I felt the product was gentle on my underarm area and it's just a shame it didn't provide what I needed in the way of odour control as I liked the idea of a natural product and one that was gentle on my skin like this was and breastfeeding friendly.

Caillou · 14/10/2016 18:29

final thoughts,

even though I wasn't convinced at first by the lack of smell, I have got used to it and it works so well that I don't really care anymore whether it is scented or not.

I would definitely buy that product, but I have to say that the price is a bit too much for me for a deodorant, which is a shame.

firsttimemum15 · 14/10/2016 18:31

I didn't like this product at first but the more I used it the more I liked it. I loves how it is natural and despite it being fragrance free it really did seem to work. I am conscious about what I use on my skin now I'm feeding my baby myself so this product gave me extra peace of mind.

It didn't irritate my skin and I actually feel the skin under my arms improved and wasn't as itchy after rising this product

Fizzyboo · 14/10/2016 18:32

I did feel the product was effective, I especially loved that it was a natural product as a breast feeding mother. I have been actively seeking natural products and would certainly use again, perhaps though a roll on would be less messy and wet.
It didn't irritate or feel like it was blocking my pores, certainly if one had sensitive skin it'd be great!

MummyKatie88 · 14/10/2016 18:39

Smell initially put me off product and drying time, however did help with the irritation. Didn't find the protection from sweat or odour particularly good though.

eastmidswarwicknightnanny · 14/10/2016 18:40

Love the fact its safe for around babies so great when breast feeding bjt didn't like the spray/liquid application ss it did run.

Monstamio · 14/10/2016 18:41

After using for a month, many of my original comments still stand. I don't love the smell and the wetness is off putting. But I did find it to be effective and plan to continue using either this version or the natural roll on for the rest of my pregnancy and while breastfeeding (at the very least). So very worthwhile trial for me!

I do think the packaging needs work. Like other posters, I've had issues with the bottle leaking over my bag when travelling which is pretty annoying. I would be interested to try a new version with a finer mist too, as it does seem to take an age to try. All in all I've got on quite well with it though.

puglife · 14/10/2016 19:09

This product does seem to have helped with my skin irritation so that's a positive for me.

I would prefer a roll on version personally. I didn't have issues with the packaging, I carried it in my bag and didn't have any leaking.

Overall I liked this product & would continue using it.

Raisingbabylg · 14/10/2016 19:10

Whilst I liked the look of the product and I would consider reusing if I was pregnant again, I still just cannot get past the initial smell. There must be a natural aroma that could mask it. Although it wears off I feel like when I perspire this is what other people can smell.

I like that it is not an aerosol can and I don't mind waiting for it dry (as long as not rushing with LO. Again I still love the design of the bottle. My underarm irritation has improved slightly which is positive.

MsAtomicBomb · 14/10/2016 19:12

After using this deodorant for a while I have to say I'm very impressed. I used to suffer from ingrowing hairs but I haven't had any since using this. So it sounds very strange to say but my armpits definitely do look better!

This is the first natural deodorant that I have tried and although I've been very impressed with it, I would probably try a different type in future. This is not a reflection of the product per se but more of a wanting to see what's out there to compare. I will definitely be buying this again too though, and have already recommended it to family and friends.

One criticism that I do have is that when using this deodorant after shaving (not immediately but say ten minutes afterwards), boy does it sting! This isn't something I've ever experienced with other deodorants, and I use an electric shaver, not a blade. This hasn't put me off however, I'm just careful not to use this until a good while after shaving.

I also still find that this takes a lot longer than a minute to dry but this isn't a problem for me personally.

Overall I've been very happy and will continue to use.

oldjacksscrote · 14/10/2016 19:12

First impressions were good, it's packaging was appealing and the odour was not offensive. I liked the fact that it was a natural product especially as I am currently breastfeeding.

I found that the product was good with my sensitive skin however it did not work effectively enough for me as a deodorant, and I didn't always feel or smell particularly fresh.

cgraves · 14/10/2016 19:12
  • What were your thoughts about the effectiveness of PitROK Extra Sensitive, given that it's a natural product?

I find it brilliant! The Smell is uncommon but got used to it and I don't stink anymore!!

  • Do you feel that PitROK Extra Sensitive has had an effect on either your sensitive skin or under arm irritation? Yes! No more sweat, I don't smell anymore. I know another happy one, my son when I breastfeed him!
charlybs · 14/10/2016 19:17

Final thoughts:

I liked how it felt on and didn't mind that it was a spray once it dried, though I had to change my routine and wait to put clothes on. It felt natural and not dusty or weird on my fingers like usual sprays. Didn't feel like I was clogged up.

The double cap was annoying and I threw the small one away almost immediately. It had leaked in the bag it was sent in though! So perhaps a rethink needed there.

However the one huge downside for me and what would stop me from buying it again was the smell. It smells like someone who has sneezed across the room. Really very unpleasant and my husband agreed. I couldn't spray it while he was in the room and I had to hold my nose every day while applying. The connotations of spraying sneeze on yourself are rather off putting as you can imagine.

CountessOfStrathearn · 14/10/2016 19:18

I've been really surprised about how good this is and wasn't expecting that at all. I don't notice any smell or sweatiness, and I've got used to the initial dampness. I think I'd like a light clean fragrance if I was to buy again. My underarms are nice and smooth and I realise now that I probably did have some underarm irritation that's now settled. It's been a success!

chubbyteacher · 14/10/2016 19:18

I was really impressed with this product initially. Yes, it takes a little while to dry compared to my usual cream stick deodorant, but it didn't irritate at all. It was effective in preventing odour, and I was surprised that I didn't feel sweaty without my usual product. I love the fact that it's natural. I'm not quite sure why I wouldn't rush to buy it though. Perhaps it's the slight drying time needed before dressing or the fact I felt I had to shower first before applying, something I don't always have time to do first thing in the morning. I also missed the creamy moisturising feel of my usual deodorant. However, I think it's a very good product and would recommend it if someone was looking for a natural deodorant.

littlemouse15 · 14/10/2016 19:19

I stopped using after the first week as i couldnt get used to the smell when you irst spray it on , its a really unplesant smell and i dont want to spraying myself with it when ive just washed

babynugget · 14/10/2016 19:19

At the end of the test period I would say I've been overall quite impressed with the product. My only criticism would be a) the packaging as I said in my first impressions, it would not draw my attention in a shop although the colours tend to be in keeping with other maternity products, etc. B) how wet it is in application. Although you do get used to fitting this into your morning routine and I have adapted to this. In terms of effectiveness I would say the product does what it says. There were only a couple of days during the test period that I could detect any odour at the end of the day. It was incredibly faint and I was probably looking for it. I did feel confident that it was keeping me fresh throughout the day. From completing the survey I would say the price will appear steep in comparison to other products but this will last 3 or 4 times as long as an aerosol so I do think would present value for money. Thanks for letting me try this product. I will definitely be keeping an eye out for it in the shops.

finova · 14/10/2016 19:20

I thought it was great.
Very effective, only 1 slightly damp day over last month I liked the neutral smell.
It seemed kind on my skin too.
I'd def buy again depending on how long the bottle lasts.
Double cap didn't bother me at all!

Reubymum · 14/10/2016 19:22

Overall this is a good product for sensitive skin. I still didn't take to the smell of it I have to admit. It is realky easy to apply but feels wet at first. On average weather days or my non teaching days it was ok. However hot or full on teaching days were a challenge for me as I felt I smelt by the end of the day. It maybe I glow more than others or this isn't for hot days.

slievers · 14/10/2016 19:24

I have been trying this product for number of weeks now, I have been generally satisfied and not noticed any sweating or odours, except the one day I forgot to put it on. I have however struggled with the fact that it is a spray and therefore takes time to dry before I can put my top on, the material provided suggested it would take a couple of minutes to dry but seemed to take much longer and usually resulted in me having to get dressed before it was fully dry, so I think a lot probably rubbed off. For this reason I don't think I would buy it.
