This thread is for the 15 Mumsnetters who tried Universal’s Decorative Egg Wraps with their DCs.

Here’s what Universal say, “These shrink to fit Egg Wraps featuring your favourite movie characters the Minions, E.T. and E.B. The Easter Bunny are great fun to watch – place one around a medium hard boiled egg, add to boiling water and they will shrink around the egg to make a cool Easter breakfast or the basis for movie themed Easter Egg hunt! Better yet, these wraps are free with selected kids DVD’s starting from just £3. Titles include Despicable Me, Hop, Coraline, Moshi Monsters, Mr Bean and Curious George and many more.”

Non-testers: Have you ever used Egg Wraps before with your DCs? If so, what did you think of them? If not, do you decorate Easter eggs in another way with your DCs?

Everyone who adds their comments to the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £150 John Lewis voucher!

Testers: We’d like you to answer the questions below but please feel free to add any other thoughts you may have.

No, haven't used egg wraps before - I'd never heard of them! They look fab though.
We decorate eggs using felt tips, small stickers, stick on googly eyes and good old PVA glue to stick on wool for hair.

brumpton · 19/03/2015 13:50

we always decorate our eggs with coloured food dye and white crayons

RobsComps99 · 19/03/2015 13:56

Never even thought about doing this before. Might give it a go this year. Kids will love it!!

I've never heard of these. Not sure I'd use them.
We like dying eggs with onion skins and also painting them.

chelington · 19/03/2015 14:24

I've never used them before but they sound like a great idea!

bc1616 · 19/03/2015 14:46

I haven't used them, but we put glue all over an egg and roll it in glitter. They look beautiful

I have not used these particular ones but have use some that my parents got me from abroad before. They worked well and looked effective. They are a nice way to make an egg look special

snare · 19/03/2015 15:06

non tester - these are fab would love to share :)

lexiemac13 · 19/03/2015 15:08

Okay... Don't know where I've been but we've never used egg wraps before. We are definitely going to now - they're fab! We have decorated eggs just using paints and glitter, tissue paper etc lots of times though!

They look great. Will definitely think of getting some.

hermancakedestroyer · 19/03/2015 16:19

I have not used these wraps before but looking at the pictures on this thread they look really good fun. We usually do a mottling effect on our Easter eggs with ink and then add Google eyes and hair and a face.
I have shown my docs the pictures on here and we're off to buy some now!

I like to decorate eggs occasionally with my DCs to get them interested in eating eggs and to spice up meal times. I'm not brave enough to just use ordinary felt tip, so use edible food pens to draw faces/decorations on then add glitter which is stuck on with sugary water.
Loads of fun for all the family!

MillyVanilli222 · 19/03/2015 16:42

We normally just buy in eggs, would love to do some decorating though - the wraps sound brilliant!

nanoobaku · 19/03/2015 16:58

Non Tester. just use the usual felt-tips, glitter and food colouring

We've had egg wraps before, a few years back. Slightly different to how these look though, they were a thick band to go across the middle but didn't cover the whole egg, so you could still eat a boiled one. We had thomas the tank engine ones, I think. They were ok, provided a few minutes of entertainment, but not really worth it in the end.
For decorating eggs now we use metallic marbling paint, makes a fab effect. Or stick stickers and bits on (the younger one) and colour it in with pens.

mummyto2boys01 · 19/03/2015 18:21

I've never heard of egg wraps, but I would love to try one! :)

hazelangell · 19/03/2015 18:48

I'd never even heard of them before but they look brilliant! We never really decorate our eggs but this has made me think maybe we will this year. We do usually make Easter goodies though so he's not completely deprived I promise!

avery64 · 19/03/2015 19:15

Non-tester. Have never heard of egg wraps but will look out for them. Grandchildren and I usually decorate hard boiled eggs with felt tip pens then glue bits and bobs on that we have collected on our walks :)

I'd never heard of them until reading this thread! They look amazing... where have they been all my life?! I will definitely be doing some this Easter!

mummymerser · 19/03/2015 19:44

These look cool. We normally just use felt tip pens to draw funny faces on them. Going to try dye this year though.

janemphoto · 19/03/2015 20:09

Decorated eggs in a lots of different ways starting from food colours and stickers to batique with wax and simple painting with gouache paints.

Princessxo · 19/03/2015 20:28

That sounds very awesome and something I wish they had when I was young lol. We'll be decorating using the normal glitter, glue and colouring pens, so it'll be fun all the same.

omgitslani · 19/03/2015 21:16

I haven't heard of these before but they sound like a great crafting idea for the little ones. We don't usually decorate eggs but I might try these.

cookinmummy · 19/03/2015 21:32

Never used egg wraps before, but my kids really want them after seeing the tester's pictures posted on this thread - I think it was the minions that did it!
They look like a good idea.

In the past we usually just use felt tips and glitter glue to make our own faces or patterns on the eggs.
