This thread is for the 15 Mumsnetters who tried Universal’s Decorative Egg Wraps with their DCs.

Here’s what Universal say, “These shrink to fit Egg Wraps featuring your favourite movie characters the Minions, E.T. and E.B. The Easter Bunny are great fun to watch – place one around a medium hard boiled egg, add to boiling water and they will shrink around the egg to make a cool Easter breakfast or the basis for movie themed Easter Egg hunt! Better yet, these wraps are free with selected kids DVD’s starting from just £3. Titles include Despicable Me, Hop, Coraline, Moshi Monsters, Mr Bean and Curious George and many more.”

Non-testers: Have you ever used Egg Wraps before with your DCs? If so, what did you think of them? If not, do you decorate Easter eggs in another way with your DCs?

Everyone who adds their comments to the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £150 John Lewis voucher!

Testers: We’d like you to answer the questions below but please feel free to add any other thoughts you may have.

  1. What were your overall impressions of the Egg Wraps? Did you like them, or not? What did your DCs think?
  2. Which Egg Wrap was your favourite? Why?
  3. Can you describe to other Mumsnetters how you had to use the Egg Wraps? Did you find the overall process easy, or not?
  4. Do you think you’d recommend them to friends and/or family if it came up in conversation? If so, why? If not, why not?
  5. Do you think you’d use them again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Please also post a picture of your decorated eggs on this thread so that other Mumsnetters can see what you’ve made Smile.

I never used wraps. We usually die our eggs the day before Easter. Covering egg with onion skin and wrapping with a piece of tight, then putting for a few minutes into a warm water with eatable die in it :)

i've never heard of egg wraps before but something that i would try with the children! We blow and paint real eggs every year and the kids love doing them!

crimsonwitch · 18/03/2015 13:15

NON TESTER
I have never heard of egg wraps before this product test but I may give them a try this year. Last Easter for the schools egg decorating competition me and ds painted an egg with magnetic coloured nail varnishes and plastic rhinestones. It looked great but we didn't win FIX Hopefully we will have better luck this year.

my4kids · 18/03/2015 13:26

We used egg wraps in the states I have been using them since I was a kid. They are amazing. The kids love to see them shrink around the egg like magic. I am excited to se them in the UK!

this is the first time i have come across them, great idea!

mrstiggy · 18/03/2015 14:25

Longworth the whole egg isn't shrink wrapped, it's more like a band around the middle, so you can get to the top and bottom. We did ours with more free at the bottom so we could get the hard boiled egg out that way. It was a little more fiddly to get into but still possible. If your eggs were on the small side though it could be a problem, you'd probably have to trim down the wrap before you put it on.

I've never used egg wraps. Honestly never heard of them until now. My boys like to paint faces on their eggs shells and grow cress inside for 'hair'. They never seem to get tired of this. Grin

mariamunkey · 18/03/2015 17:23

Non-tester but they are incredibly cool!
I usually paint and stick cotton wool to them for hair! I can make a mean don king lol

jandoc · 18/03/2015 17:58

i haven't used them before

Flossiecrossie · 18/03/2015 18:36

This is the first time I've heard of the wraps, and they sound great fun and I would love to try. Our decorating has usually been with felt tips and paints and bits & pieces that we have arounnd that add some fun, like cotton wool for beards & eyebrows and sprinkings of glitter.

cheryl100 · 18/03/2015 18:39

I have never used egg wraps but they look fun! We usually use paints, googly eyes and pipe cleaners!

balloon66 · 18/03/2015 20:37

Im not a tester. We use food dyes which leak through the hard boiled shell. We then go egg rolling until they break and then we eat them!

topsy73 · 18/03/2015 21:07

never tried Egg Wraps but feel my little boy is a little too young for this still

ellie17 · 18/03/2015 21:58

always decorated just with felt tips or paint

kirstycooper01 · 18/03/2015 22:16

I have never used them but they look brilliant , I think I would be more excited about them than the kids ;-)

ikkle87 · 19/03/2015 00:50

non - tester

never heard of these before but they look pretty cool, remind me a little of being at primary school and decorating boiled eggs for the school competition

mclarkie · 19/03/2015 09:44

Non Tester

Had never heard about egg wraps until reading this blog, they look cool.

MissPoppins · 19/03/2015 10:55

I have never used egg wraps, to be honest ive never even heard of them! We sometimes paint eggs, (not choc ones obviously) and then do a hunt with them

sarah3875 · 19/03/2015 11:00

Non-Tester. These look pretty good. Have never tried them though. We always varnish and paint. We made some great ones last year including batman and robin!

Itchylegs · 19/03/2015 11:23

non-tester: I have never used egg wraps. I have boiled eggs with onion skins or in beetroot juice. We have also used egg-friendly paints and little googly eye sticky things to make our eggs look cute.

casspuss · 19/03/2015 11:36

we used to paint polysterene eggs but have not for a while
