This thread is for the 15 Mumsnetters who tried Universal’s Decorative Egg Wraps with their DCs.

Here’s what Universal say, “These shrink to fit Egg Wraps featuring your favourite movie characters the Minions, E.T. and E.B. The Easter Bunny are great fun to watch – place one around a medium hard boiled egg, add to boiling water and they will shrink around the egg to make a cool Easter breakfast or the basis for movie themed Easter Egg hunt! Better yet, these wraps are free with selected kids DVD’s starting from just £3. Titles include Despicable Me, Hop, Coraline, Moshi Monsters, Mr Bean and Curious George and many more.”

Non-testers: Have you ever used Egg Wraps before with your DCs? If so, what did you think of them? If not, do you decorate Easter eggs in another way with your DCs?

Everyone who adds their comments to the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £150 John Lewis voucher!

Testers: We’d like you to answer the questions below but please feel free to add any other thoughts you may have.

  1. What were your overall impressions of the Egg Wraps? Did you like them, or not? What did your DCs think?
  2. Which Egg Wrap was your favourite? Why?
  3. Can you describe to other Mumsnetters how you had to use the Egg Wraps? Did you find the overall process easy, or not?
  4. Do you think you’d recommend them to friends and/or family if it came up in conversation? If so, why? If not, why not?
  5. Do you think you’d use them again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Please also post a picture of your decorated eggs on this thread so that other Mumsnetters can see what you’ve made Smile.

Everyone who posts their feedback and picture on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

Never heard of them before.

We do food colouring in the water to make green, purple, pink, yellow and blue coloured shells then decorate with felt tips, glitter and glue.

I am always v tempted to make a dougal (from the magic roundabout) egg with lengths of wool for nostalgic reasons.

Now the kids are older, we use permanent marker pens such as sharpies as they don't smudge. Great fun.

1)What were your overall impressions of the Egg Wraps? Did you like them, or not? What did your DCs think?
We liked them, we thought they were bright and colourful, very cheerful.

2)Which Egg Wrap was your favourite? Why?
The kids favourites were Minion and ET. Why?"because they were oval shaped which made them look funny"

3)Can you describe to other Mumsnetters how you had to use the Egg Wraps? Did you find the overall process easy, or not?
It was easy, just place the egg in the wrapper and drop in hot water for a few seconds...however! one egg didn't fit inside the wrapper (see photo) so I would recommend using medium, rather than large, eggs.

4)Do you think you’d recommend them to friends and/or family if it came up in conversation? If so, why? If not, why not?
The kids say "yes" they would. I'm not sure because they were a very quick activity, not really a craft, and make the eggs a bit trickier to eat.

5)Do you think you’d use them again? If so, why? If not, why not?
The kids say "yes", I think I would if we got them free, but wouldn't seek them out.

Thank you for the opportunity to try them, and thank you also for the surprise dvd we got!

Non tester - felt tips and googly eyes!

EllaSaturday · 22/03/2015 21:05

Was going to test them this morning but the eggs were too big! Will try when I get some smaller eggs...

samcornfield · 22/03/2015 22:28

I have tried them before and they work very well but I don't like them particularly as they are not very traditional. We prefer decorating the eggs with food colouring.

cococandyfloss · 23/03/2015 16:10

My DD decorated our boiled eggs with paint , black pipe cleaners and googly eyes to make little bees for school -I can't however work out how to post a pic (I don't think you can by mobile ?) so you will have to trust me that they were very sweet ! Grin

I've never heard of egg wraps, but they sound great.

We usually decorate eggs in the run up to Easter just with felt tip pens and goggly eyes to make funny faces. Those same eggs are then used for breakfast on Easter Sunday!

My little ones love making humpy dumpy eggs whenever they have a boiled egg (just draw on the egg). They love making him fall after they have eaten the egg. Think they would like these wraps and could be fun for Easter egg hunt

I've never heard of egg wraps before and we don't decorate eggs - we don't like eating hard boiled eggs. We do decorate an Easter tree though!

toldmywrath · 27/03/2015 20:28

Non Tester: Wow these egg wraps look great- I've never heard of them. We usually boil our hens eggs in water with food dye & then write on with a sharpie.

1)What were your overall impressions of the Egg Wraps? Did you like them, or not? What did your DCs think?

They looked really fun. The children were excited but my son didn't want an egg so took delight in his sisters minion egg. However it was tricky to get to egg fully after wrap was on and I had to take it off! I think it makes for a fun breakfast and is very quick.

2)Which Egg Wrap was your favourite? Why?
Minion egg. The kids love them!

3)Can you describe to other Mumsnetters how you had to use the Egg Wraps? Did you find the overall process easy, or not?

A little tricky. Boiled egg and when ready lifted out of pan And tried to slip wrap on.
The heat from egg made the plastic opening shrink. I then quickly ran egg under some cold water and then slipped wrap on. This worjed. Literally seconds back in pan and it was done.

4)Do you think you’d recommend them to friends and/or family if it came up in conversation? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes. A cheap way to make the children laugh. May yet encourage my 7 year old to eat eggs?

5)Do you think you’d use them again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Yes I will. A fun all year round treat. Next time I'm going to place wrapper lower down egg so slicing top of is easier.
