This thread is for the 15 Mumsnetters who tried Universal’s Decorative Egg Wraps with their DCs.

Here’s what Universal say, “These shrink to fit Egg Wraps featuring your favourite movie characters the Minions, E.T. and E.B. The Easter Bunny are great fun to watch – place one around a medium hard boiled egg, add to boiling water and they will shrink around the egg to make a cool Easter breakfast or the basis for movie themed Easter Egg hunt! Better yet, these wraps are free with selected kids DVD’s starting from just £3. Titles include Despicable Me, Hop, Coraline, Moshi Monsters, Mr Bean and Curious George and many more.”

Non-testers: Have you ever used Egg Wraps before with your DCs? If so, what did you think of them? If not, do you decorate Easter eggs in another way with your DCs?

Everyone who adds their comments to the thread will be entered into a prize draw to win a £150 John Lewis voucher!

Testers: We’d like you to answer the questions below but please feel free to add any other thoughts you may have.

  1. What were your overall impressions of the Egg Wraps? Did you like them, or not? What did your DCs think?
  2. Which Egg Wrap was your favourite? Why?
  3. Can you describe to other Mumsnetters how you had to use the Egg Wraps? Did you find the overall process easy, or not?
  4. Do you think you’d recommend them to friends and/or family if it came up in conversation? If so, why? If not, why not?
  5. Do you think you’d use them again? If so, why? If not, why not?

Please also post a picture of your decorated eggs on this thread so that other Mumsnetters can see what you’ve made Smile.

Everyone who posts their feedback and picture on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky Mumsnetter will win a £300 Love2Shop voucher!

Thanks and good luck,

MNHQ

We've not used egg wraps but we are going to decorate this year. We will be using stickers and felt pens. There's no way we'll be eating the eggs but we will have fun decorating a batch.

Fizzyplonk · 13/03/2015 13:22

I'd never heard of egg wraps and think will try!
We decorate by boiling with food colouring then sticking on sequins.

asuwere · 13/03/2015 13:33

1)What were your overall impressions of the Egg Wraps? Did you like them, or not? What did your DCs think?
They are very cute, really bright and clear. DC thought they looked like tattoos for eggs so were very excited!

2)Which Egg Wrap was your favourite? Why?
I liked ET just coz he reminded me of being a kid. DC all loved minion though.

3)Can you describe to other Mumsnetters how you had to use the Egg Wraps? Did you find the overall process easy, or not?
it is very easy and very quick. Basically pop the wrap loosely over egg then dip in boiling water for a few seconds. It really is very quick!

4)Do you think you’d recommend them to friends and/or family if it came up in conversation? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, I think so, depending on how much they were - if free with a DVD, then obviously worth trying! :)

5)Do you think you’d use them again? If so, why? If not, why not?
Yes, maybe. They were fun but are done very quickly so not really a craft activity. Also, once on the egg, it's difficult to eat it as a boiled egg - hard to take the top off the egg as most of it is covered in plastic.
However, I blew eggs first and put the wraps just on the empty shells - means they can look pretty and last longer which is good and can be used as a decoration.
DD2 (2) also wanted to try it on her pet stone (I have no explanation!) and it worked quite well ans she is very happy :)

Thank you for them - we did enjoy them, and would use them again if we got them free with something but not sure I would buy them on their own.
(added photos of Hop on egg and Babe on stone!)

I'd never even heard of them before! But they looks really fun and I intend to try some for the first time this Easter.

If not, do you decorate Easter eggs in another way with your DCs?

With markers, stickers, glue and glitter!

Ive not used egg wraps before with my three sons but at Easter I like to hard boil us an egg each, decorate them with paints, pens etc and go to the local park for a family egg rolling competition. See who can roll their egg down the hill the furthest Grin

I had heard of them as I used to do them years ago with youngest brother and sister, so its great to hear they are still available, as I remember them being cool.

We have been painting our eggs and sticking feathers on them

Cherryjellybean · 13/03/2015 21:41

I had never seen these before :)
We will probably use pens and googly eyes to make funny eggs :)
Googly eyes are all the rage in this house at the moment :)

DD and I love doing crafts together. It's paint, stickers and googly eyes for us, but these wraps would be so much fun! Grin x

Belmo · 13/03/2015 23:33

Non Tester:

I've never heard of egg wraps, but oooooh I want one!!

We always draw faces on in felt tip, and roll them down a hill.

Signoritawhocansway · 14/03/2015 07:49

We had never tried egg wraps, but will give them a go. We previously have decorated eggs with whatever is hoing in our craft box.

I've never heard of them before! They look ace though and I know my dd would love them. I'm going to look for some now.

I've only ever painted eggs the traditional way, but I think these look really fun and would like to give them a go.

maryandbuzz1 · 14/03/2015 15:22

This is something I have not tried but a great idea. It is certainly one to think about using in my art club

andywedge · 14/03/2015 15:23

Nope, never decorated an egg but may do this Easter

I've never heard of this type of egg decoration. Normally we just use felt-tips, but make more effort with pipe-cleaners, paper and glue if there is a competition at school.

barker99 · 14/03/2015 15:26

Non Tester. We've got egg dye and stickers

badgermum · 14/03/2015 15:30

These sound fabulous, I hadn't heard of them before my boys would love to have a minion egg for an Easter treat, we don't tend to decorate eggs but will definitely be looking out for these

TracyKNixon · 14/03/2015 15:33

I have never heard of Egg Wraps before but they sound great! Usually we used felt tip pens/glitter pens to decourate ours along with collage (bows, wool, googly eyes, glitter etc!

21Catherine21 · 14/03/2015 15:38

I have always decorated with just felt tips but will have a look at using stickers Smile They seem fun :)

castleton · 14/03/2015 15:39

I've never heard of egg wraps before this survey. We usually just use food colouring and felt tips.

Never seen these before but good idea. Would usually go for water paints or glitter and glue but definitely worth considering!!
