This is the feedback thread for the lights by TENA product test.

lights by TENA say "there are four products in the lights by TENA range. They’re all specially designed for Oooops moments. They absorb faster than ordinary liners, keeping you feeling drier and fresher. They all have specially designed odour-control. But they do differ in size and profile."

Testers - please share on this thread your responses to the following questions and please also add your feedback on survey form link which we emailed to you.

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

Every tester who adds their feedback on this thread and who completes the survey form will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £150 voucher for the store of their choice.

Please note, your anon comments may be used by lights by TENA on their website, social media and possibly elsewhere. Please only add a comment if you're happy for it to be used.

thanks and good luck!

I am 50 though hate to admit it. I have had constant urine leakages since the birth of my babies after a second degree tear both times. It only usually happens if I cough or sneeze very badly or I have left it extra late to go to the loo!
The product itself that you gave me is good though I would also like to try the lighter one advertised on the box.
It is very similar to a panty liner but thicker and keeps dry when there has been a little bit of leakage. you don't feel damp!
I have not tried any of the other products before just used panty liners.
I think the RRP is value for money and I will buy them again.

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
I'm 31, and I have 3 children under 6. With my first 2 children I didn't notice a problem but after my last, I've noticed I occasionally leak when I laugh or sneeze.

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
I really liked them, they were discreet and easy to use. Maybe they might be better for me anyway if they were a tiny bit longer.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
I find them much thinner, and they stay in place better than my usual product/s. Also I don't notice a "smell"

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
I have before just used a regular panty liner but find they are un-reliable.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
Yes I do think they are good value, they do the job they're meant to do brilliantly.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
Yes I would buy them in the future, and yes I would and will recommend them to all my mummy friends.

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy? I'm 48 and have suffered for quite a number of years now, probably since I had my first baby in 1987. Four children later haven't really helped the situation.
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see? They were very easy to use. However, I would have liked them to be individually packaged. There's no way of keeping them clean if taking them out and about. Packing from the next pad would be useful for wrapping up the used one too.
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear? They work just as well as other brands I have tried.
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare? Yes I've tried the Always pads and the Tena ones work just as well as these.
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? Great value for money.
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage? Yes, I would happily buy them again and recommend them to someone else.

I am nearly 23 and noticed I was struggling with holding in me wees after having my first child just over 2 years ago, despite doing all me pelvic floor exercises! I wouldn't say I had a massive problem with leakage, more, I have to rush to pee when my bladder is full! Or, my bladder fills up quicker now? Something like that anyway! (TBH, I am terrified about having another child in case it gets worse and I really lose all control of my bladder! :/ I do continue to do pelvic floor exercises now so fingers crossed that isn't the case!

The product was really easy to use! The backs stripped off easily and there was even instruction to say which end went at the front of your knickers! Despite using them as instructed, I did find they rubbed on my legs a bit on one or two occasions! I think they are fine as they are. I would just change designs so you could super hero ones, or something!

Panty liners are that product that I love to use, but rarely actually buy because I don't see them as a necessity. Saying that, they do make me feel nicer and fresher and more confident, particularly when I'm off out for a day and I might get a full bladder! There is an extra layer of defense if - god forbid - I have an actual accident in public!

I haven't used any products specific to bladder weakness, apart from panty liners.

I think £1.99 for 28 liners is good value for money! Though, I guess it depends on how many you use in a day/week/month. I mainly wear one when I'm off out and not really for just being in the house as the bathroom isn't too far away!

I would buy TENA lights in the future and think I will add them on to the weekly ASDA shop. I would recommend them to other people if we were talking about our bladder problems!!!

Thanks for the opportunity to test your product, TENA!

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
I am 29 and was pregnant with my second up until 10 days ago. I had quite bad cough for the last 10 weeks of pregnancy and every time I coughed, I ended up slightly wetting myself. Confused
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
Product is indeed very easy to use and it stays put until taken off. I also was surprised, how comfy it was. I expected something bigger to hold back urine leakage and was pleasantly surprised. I'm not sure about improving something that is good enough. My problem ended very quickly though, so I ended up using them as a maternity pads, which was good idea as well.
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
I don't normally use pads at all. I prefer to use tampons. So even now, post section, I really hate sticking stuff in my pants.
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
Never experienced this type of problem before, so haven't had the need for them.
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? Wow. Very good value.
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
I would definitely recommend them with that problem, but wouldn't necessarily buy them for me. As said above - I hate using any pads, even as comfortable as these.

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?

I'm 32, my daughters are 10/13 & I have found in the last couple of years my pelvic floor muscles have weakened

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?

Very easy to use, nice packaged & easy to store

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?

Much lighter as the name suggests, I didn't notice it was there as it's so thin.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?

Just regular liners, which aren't as good as these and are much thicker

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?

Yes, it is reasonable amount, I would say I would be more likely to buy if they were on an offer though

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

Yes & yes! They certainly make me feel more comfortable being active & when wearing tighter clothing

Gudgyx · 12/01/2015 14:22

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
I'm 27, have 4 recto-vaginal and 1 bowel to bladder fistula resulting in leakage. Am also 32 weeks pregnant.

Q2 what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
They were good. Easy enough to use, quite short though I would maybe be more tempted to buy if they were longer.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your
sanitary-wear?
As stated above, a lot shorter, probably by about half. Very thin though with still good absorbancy.

Q4 Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
I normally use Kotex. Only thing I like better with Kotex is the length of them.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is 1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
Yup good value, I'm normally 1 for 16 so about the same.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
I'd probably not buy them in future as I prefer longer ones, but would recommend them yes. I probably like the longer ones as I have leakage from everywhere!

Nosynora · 12/01/2015 16:00

As I've got into my early 50s ive needed to wear daily protection and tena lights are the best ive used , very absorbent . They are a bit pricey but if they work I'm prepared to pay a bit extra , the only improvement I would like is for them to stick more securely .

RoaringBaubles · 12/01/2015 16:50

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
I'm 46 with ds of 13 and 26 and to be honest it's been a problem for 26 years and of late has become more of a problem, always when I sneeze or cough.

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
I liked them although I always forget immediately which way the arrow had been pointing on the strip so have a confused moment when putting on my knickers which is a little unsettling first thing in the morning!

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
I usually use much thiner panty liners and hadn't quite reached the point of thinking Tena.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
I haven't purchased bladder weakness specific products so am only comparing with sanitary wear, I quite like wings as it makes everything feel a bit more secure.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
Good value for peace of mind. I know the price jumps heaps for the more robust pads.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
I have already recommended them actually and probably will switch to them.

NoisyNoraBackAgain · 12/01/2015 19:31

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy? I'm 34 and suffered from some leakage during the third trimester of my second pregnancy, due to a cough and cold.
Q2 what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see? Very easy to use. No improvements necessary.
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear? More absorbent and slightly bigger than cheap panty liners.
Q4 Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare? See above.
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is 1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? I usually pay about 30p for 16 liners, I think, so they are expensive but definitely do a better job.
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage? If the problem recurs, I might buy them. Would recommend too.

MegTheCat · 12/01/2015 21:46

Q1 I'm 51 and I think the problem is down to giving birth twice. (19 years ago and 15 years ago). It seems to have got worse with age as well. I've recently started doing pelvic floor exercises regularly, which is helping
Cutting down coffee also helps. But I need to use a liner when I go running. Also tend to use when I have long car journeys for work and might have a bit of a walk at the other end.
Q2 Product very easy to use. You just stick it on your pants. There's even an arrow to tell you which way round it goes. No improvements needed. I did have a bit of chafing and feeling hot the first day I tried it so I'd probably avoid using it for a whole day again. But being very light as well as absorbent it should be good for going for a run (meant to try it but my exercise regime has slipped a bit lately)
Q3 I have used some different Tena lights - a bit less absorbent, 28 in a pack - they are probably what I use most and I'm very happy with them. These were a bit less comfortable to wear but the higher absorbency could be really useful for exercising. I've also used supermarket own brand liners (Lidl) which worked fine but were really bulky. Normal panty liners are just useless. Sanitary ware - I use tampons so can't really compare.
Q4 as above.
Q5 I think tena are good value for money as they're better than any other product I've tried
Q6 I will definitely buy tena in future. I would recommend them if asked, but would assume most people know about them (also not a topic that tends to come up in polite conversation).

PurpleStripedSock · 13/01/2015 08:53

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?

I'm 42 and over the years have had instances of leakage; sneazing, coughing etc. At the moment I am pregnant so that's causing leakage more frequently.

Q2 what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?

The product modelled a sanitary pad for menstruation so it was quite straight forward to use.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?

I don't usually wear a sanitary product or menstrual pad (preferring tampons) so I was wary about comfort but they were okay and un-noticeable for the most part.

Q4 Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?

No, none other.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is 1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?

It seems like quite a mark up for a processed cotton product but in relation to other sanitary products on the market, I suppose it's 'reasonable'.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

I'd suggest them as an option alongside pelvic floor exercises.

NoMoreSatsumas · 13/01/2015 09:18
  1. I'm 36. First experienced leakage in my first pregnancy last year. I'm pregnant again and getting leakage again.
  2. Easy to use, can't think of any improvements.
  3. I've mainly been using quite thick maternity pads and these were less bulky and less noticeable.
  4. See above.
  5. It seems to be in line with other products.
  6. I might buy them, not sure if I would recommend them though (in the same way I wouldn't particularly recommend sanitary wear)
AnneEyhtMeyer · 13/01/2015 22:31

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?

Early 40s, since late pregnancy 6 years ago

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?

Yes, v easy and thinner than I thought they would be. Like the way they tell you which is the front.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?

Better than a pant liner. I use tampons for my period.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?

Only a pant liner. Tena much better - seems to eliminate the smell.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?

Cheaper than I thought they would be.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

Yes.

Pickofthepops · 14/01/2015 10:25

Very fair

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

Yes would recommend but only in conjunction with proper pelvic floor exercises.

florencebabyjo · 14/01/2015 14:57

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy? I noticed this after baby no 3 after I had experienced a prolapse due to a prolonged labour with lots of pushing. I kew my pf muscles were not as they should be as every time I sneezed or coughed I would leak a little. By baby no 5 this was noticeable for me and I found I had more urgency than usual. I am 42.

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
This was very easy to use and especially easy to peel the backing off as there was a nice gap around the backing to get hold of. I felt the box was a bit flimsy though and would like to see maybe a drawstring plastic bag?

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear? They are more comfortable and absorbant than usual and I felt really confident using them.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare? I have only used usual panty linrs which were not so effective but no other bladder weakness products.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? I think this is good value for what is really a months supply.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage? Yes I would definitely use in the future and have already recommended!
