This is the feedback thread for the lights by TENA product test.

lights by TENA say "there are four products in the lights by TENA range. They’re all specially designed for Oooops moments. They absorb faster than ordinary liners, keeping you feeling drier and fresher. They all have specially designed odour-control. But they do differ in size and profile."

Testers - please share on this thread your responses to the following questions and please also add your feedback on survey form link which we emailed to you.

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

Every tester who adds their feedback on this thread and who completes the survey form will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £150 voucher for the store of their choice.

Please note, your anon comments may be used by lights by TENA on their website, social media and possibly elsewhere. Please only add a comment if you're happy for it to be used.

thanks and good luck!

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
I am 38 and pregnant (3rd baby) it seems to have started since about 12 weeks pregnant. I don't even notice it happening but there is a very definite smell by the end of the day :-(

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
Very easy and v effective. Forgot it was there and no odour at all.
In an ideal world they would be flushable as I never really know what to do with them at the end of the day. Put them in the bin obviously, but I don't like bins in the bathroom.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
Similar to pant liners that I wear occasionally, that sort of thickness.
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
Not tried anything else, was in denial!

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
Not bad at all actually.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
I might well buy them. I'm not sure if i would be a bit too embarrassed to recommend them though, but if we were already having that conversation then why not.

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?

I'm 34, have a 13mo child and am now 23weeks with a second. My pelvic floor is not what it was.

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?

Very easy to use & absorbent. Forgot I was wearing it a lot of the time.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?

I tried another brand shortly before being sent these - the other brand didn't stay in place as well.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?

As above

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?

Very good value.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

Yes and yes.

I'm 36 and have 3 kids, I have 'little oops moments' on occasion when I cough, sneeze or vomit! Makes morning sickness interesting!
The tena lights were easy to use, thin and discreet although did move a little despite the full back stickyness. I think I've just gotten to used to products with wings. That said they're more comfortable and less noticeable (to me) than my usual disposable sanitary wear. They're really absorbent for the size which is obviously a huge plus point. I think the price is good and definitely value for money. I'm not sure if I'd recommend them but purely on the basis that I don't think it's something I've talked about with my friends and believe me we talk about almost everything. If I came up in conversation I certainly would.
I know you've not asked this but I love the packaging too. I like that it's pretty and discrete, I could have it in my basket without feeling embarrassed or that people were looking.

purpleclaire · 23/12/2014 14:45

Q1 - I am 48 and have 2 chn (7 and 2). My bladder problems really began after my 2nd pregnancy; I have been diagnosed with an overactive bladder, really have to dash to the loo as soon as I wake and have all the usual times like coughs and sneezes, when I have to be careful.
Q2 – Good product and looks good too, might be interested to try a super size for night time.
Q3 - Good - have only used normal pads before.
Q4 – Cannot compare, as have only used ordinary pads before.
Q5 - This is value for the size of the pack.
Q6 - Definitely.

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy? age 49, have had this for about 5 years, most likely linked to my pregnancy with ds2.
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see? Easy to use. Perhaps a bit longer would be nice if that's an option.
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear? They seem a bit more absorbent, but then I usually use sanitary pads instead. This is an improvement.
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare? Yes, but it was a store brand type thing or unknown brand and it wasn't very good - not nearly the absorbency.
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? I would buy them on offer, but probably not at regular price.
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage? Yes, again I would buy them, but only on offer.

poppy1973 · 23/12/2014 17:01

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?

I am 41, two children. I experienced slight leakage after the birth of my second child. It has got a little heavier since the last 3 years. I think due to my age. Probably

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?

Really good and easy to use. Have no embarrassing moments at all.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?

I normally use a supermarket basics range. So this is far better.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?

I normally purchase the basics range from supermarket. If on offer I upgrade to a perfumed version of a supermarket version. TENA are good and although not perfumed are good and have no problems and no leakage where it shouldn't be.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?

It isn't a bad price. It would last you 4 weeks. So not bad.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

If they were on offer, then yes I would buy them in the future.

Scarybex · 23/12/2014 17:04

Q1 - I'm 39, and I've found it at issue post pregnancy. Particularly if doing heavy exercise.
Q2 – the pads worked well, I felt more confident wearing them. I do think since they have a definitive front and back that they should also have some indication on the pad itself as if you wip the tape off quick you are very much left guessing which is a pain.
Q3 - They are better than using a panyliner, they lock leaks away. They do feel a bit wider though, I'd prefer not to be able to feel them there. I wouldn't like to wear them under tight clothing.
Q4 – No.
Q5 - I think that's very good value for money.
Q6 - I would yes, particularly for those few months after birth when your pelvic floor is still recovering.

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?

I am 37 years old and experience a small amount of leakage when i start to exercise at high intensity, and i need to use the bathroom once I have started exercising even if i did not need too before. Also i experience small amounts of leakage if i have a bad cold or coughing alot. I have had two children who are now 3 and 6 years old and have only experienced this problem after having children. No matter how much or little exercise I do it has not improved.

Q2 what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
it is very easy and comfortable to use and box is recycleable too better than plastic or other materials.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
Lights by Tena are a very good comparision to my usual product but more discreet too. I do prefer to use winged pads and not tampons for sanitary wear.

Q4 Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
I have used many brands and supermarket own brands of panty liners but Tena have been proved to be better in comparison as these are specific to leakage great for use when exercising.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is 1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
Yes great value for money.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone.
Yes i will be buying lights by Tena in the future and would recoomend to friends and family.

ThedementedPenguin · 24/12/2014 10:16

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?

I am 24. I have experienced it since my first pregnancy just over 2 years ago. Has been made worse from my second pregnancy (dd is 8 months).

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?

Product is great. Easy to use, great length and fit.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?

Lights by TENA IMO is far better than my usual. Is longer so I feel better protected. Don't feel damp either which is great.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?

I have used a variety of brands. It's important to feel protected and not be feeling self-conscious all the time. I thought I'd found a great brand but now realise there is better.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?

Yes I think this is great value for money. A good price.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

Yes I would use them again and would recommend them to others.

Q1. I am a 35 year old mother of three. I only started experiencing bladder weakness after having my children, I had all three in just over four years. The weakness occurred after the first birth and only got worse after each subsequent birth, my oldest is nearly 11. I am lucky as I don't experience weakness in doing everyday tasks, it is only when I exercise or jump about excessively. However I am very keen on fitness and workout about 4 times a week, I cannot participate without a pad or liner. For years I have used regular sanitary towels or liners, recently I have tried Always Discreet but this is the first time using Lights by Tena.
Q2. I found the product be really absorbent but not too thick, it stayed in place well. A winged version might be good.
Q3. I found the Lights by Tena slightly thicker than other liners but they were more absorbent, so I was very happy with this.
Q4. I have used Always Discreet pads and liners but the absorbency and thickness in the small pads is closer to the Tena liners than the Always Discreet liners.
Q5. The price is very good value for money considering the absorbency is more like pads than liners and pads are more expensive.
Q6. I would definitely recommend the product for efficiency and value.

umiaisha · 24/12/2014 20:28

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy? I am 7 months pregnant with my 3rd baby and it started after about 4 months.

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see? Very easy to use. Not sure what improvements could be made.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear? much more comfortable and far more absorbent. Made me feel less worried about embarassing visible leakages.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare? only sanitary towels/pant liners.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? good value - comparable to the price of sanitary towels.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage? yes and yes!

KateBuryUK · 26/12/2014 02:26

I started to have stress incontinence at age 23 after I had a forceps delivery of a premature baby. The problem became much worse in my late 30s after i had a stroke. I think the rrp is ok. Tena lady are fine, but I do have an odd problem, in that, when I wet myself, the urine tracks forwards on to the front of my pants just above the liner. I do place the pad slightly forward. and so far this seems to work, but lately I have been advised to increase my fluid intake due to kidney problems and I dont really wish to wear 2 pads, one further forward than the other. I am now 60 yrs old.

aristocat · 26/12/2014 09:54

Q1 - I am 47 (48 next week) and this issue has gradually got worse. I have a cough at the moment and the bladder weakness is awful with a cough/sneeze.

Q2 I liked them, easy to use, slim and a good adhesive to my undies.

Q3 - I do not usually use any bladder weakness products.

Q4 I have not tried any other products.

Q5 - Yes, good value. Perhaps wrap individually though please.

Q6 - Yes. I would recommend them to others and would buy in the future.

PositiveAttitude · 26/12/2014 14:10

Q1 - I've always had a weak bladder, even as a teenager. Not totally surprised that things have gone downhill now that I am 48 and have had 9 pregnancies.
Q2 – Very easy to use, nice and discreet. I did not feel as if it was visible when wearing it, so that was good.
Q3 - I don't usually wear anything unless I have a cough, when it is needed. I would be tempted to wear these more often as it was so good.
Q4 – Only used normal sanitary towels when I have needed to, like when I have had a cough.
Q5 - Not too bad....yes, I would probably spend that for the quality of the product.
Q6 - Yes I would buy them......not sure that I would start a conversation about recommending them, but if asked, yes I would recommend them.

BehindLockNumberNine · 26/12/2014 16:40

Q1. I am 43 and have experienced light bladder weakness since the birth of my first child 15 years ago. I leak when i run, cough, sneeze, laugh or bounce on a trampoline or bouncy castle.
Q2. The product was easy to use. I found the edges a bit stiff though
Q3. I don't use any other incontinence products. Compared to my regular brand of sanitary towels they felt stiffer.
Q4. I have not used any other products.
Q5. Very good value for money.
Q6. I may begin using these as my bladder weakness does at times restrict every day life. Yes, i would recommend them.

heyday · 26/12/2014 20:17

Have had this problem for past 5 years after having 3 children.
Whilst I do like the product I really want a genuine, long term solution and wish I could do the pelvic floor exercises more successfully.

geelee · 26/12/2014 23:43

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
Im 46, 3 children 20,17 & 9. Childbirth has definitely not helped. It's been years that I can't cough, sneeze, laugh , jump on trampoline! Without some urine loss.
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
Yes easy to use and reassuring that it's there. Had cold / cough and they've been great
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
They are more absorbent than panty liners.
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
No
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
More expensive than panty liners, but do better job so yes good value .
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
Yes I will buy, probably in bulk if I see them on offer, and would definitely recommend, I can cough with confidence now . Thank you

Featherbag · 27/12/2014 21:39

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?

I'm 34, I've had varying degrees of incontinence all my life due to some congenital abnormalities which improved with surgery, however they worsened slightly after 2 pregnancies.

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?

I really liked these and don't think I'd change anything.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?

Thinner, which initially gave me less confidence in them but they performed just as well.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?

I've used Sainsburys and Boots own brand and Always sensitive. These performed just as well as all of these while being thinner.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?

It's more expensive than my usual brand but I did prefer them.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

Yes and yes, but I'd like to see less obvious branding on the packaging.

Vajazzler · 28/12/2014 08:37

Q1 I have 5 children and all were born via csections. I am also massively overweight and my leakage has got worse as my weight has increased.
Q2 I liked the product very much. Just like a thick pantyliner but not as intrusive as a sanitary towel. Just the right size.
Q3/4 I've never used a specific incontinence product just sanitary towels which I find too bulky
Q5 very good value for money
Q6 yes I would recommend the tena lights. I feel better about my situation since I started using them

glammanana · 28/12/2014 12:22

Thanks for allowing me to take part in this product test,

  1. I am an older tester 60ish but a very up to date mum & nanna I have had bladder leakage since my 3rd child was born 30+ yrs ago and at the time the insight for the regular pelvic floor excercises where not made as important to us then as they are now and hense my problem started from there.I now have regular treatment with botox to strengthen the neck of the bladder but there is still some leakage but not as much given my treatment. 2)I found the product easy to use and had a very good strength to the pantyliner when fitted to my pants it felt secure and safe. The packaging was attractive and much more discreet against some products certainly less embarrassment in supermarkets when loading on to the till as the box is so cute in design. 3)Comparing to other products I would certainly look for these on the shelves for purchase they fit me better than most, some are very bulky but these where nice and trim but good at containing leakage they smelt fresh and clean also right up to changing half way through day,so easy for disposal. 4)Other products I have used have been varied over the years and I have never really found a liner that suits me,I dislike winged liners they tend to go out of shape somewhat after a while and some do not have a secure enough backing strip to hold into place, some products have a gel like substance appear when moisture is absorbed and feel uncomfortable to wear so these really made a difference for me. 5)The price is very good the product would last me 7/10days as I change 2/3 times a day so I find this very low priced for such a good product.
  2. I will certainly recommend to any other ladies who have problems similar to mine.
