This is the feedback thread for the lights by TENA product test.

lights by TENA say "there are four products in the lights by TENA range. They’re all specially designed for Oooops moments. They absorb faster than ordinary liners, keeping you feeling drier and fresher. They all have specially designed odour-control. But they do differ in size and profile."

Testers - please share on this thread your responses to the following questions and please also add your feedback on survey form link which we emailed to you.

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

Every tester who adds their feedback on this thread and who completes the survey form will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £150 voucher for the store of their choice.

Please note, your anon comments may be used by lights by TENA on their website, social media and possibly elsewhere. Please only add a comment if you're happy for it to be used.

thanks and good luck!

Q1: I'm 42 and have had a small degree of stress incontinence for many years, possibly since my first dc was born (now 23) but not sure if that long. Last few years I have an irritable bladder either side of my period so need more protection then.
Q2: Easy to use. No problems with stickiness (or lack of) Look thicker than panty liners but don't feel that different once on. The arrow could be better if it is important which way round it goes.
Q3: more absorbent definitely than a panty liner. Would not use during my period as I have heavy periods but useful at other times, particularly either side of period as mentioned above.
Q4: have only used a variety of panty liners, this is much better.
Q5: price reasonable. Would not put me off too much but say £1.50 or on a deal regularly (as Always pads often are) would definitely help!
Q6: I would buy and recommend. Bit put off by the embarrassment factor of admitting (to myself really) and shop assistants I guess, that they are needed but really, they don't care!

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
38 years, before pregnancy I had no issues, then I I has my first son aged 31 and it was weak but nothing like now, after having my second son three years ago!
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
It was fine, comfortable to wear. Wore when running and it was secure so no problems there. Would like it to be more portable or individually wrapped so I can carry one or two on my handbag
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
My periods are quite heavy so I wouldn't use it for the first three days or so but it's definitely better than most panty liners
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
Very good...comfortable and secure
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
Yes, definitely
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
Yes, again, definitely!

lilrahi · 05/01/2015 19:59

Q1 - I'm 30 with 2 children, I have been having bladder weakness since being pregnant with my first child. The slightest cough or even laughing loudly causes problems. I relieve my bladder quite often to try and avoid leakages but it still happens.

Q2 – Yes, very easy to use. Great for everyday wear as they are more effective than a normal pantyliner but they are not noticeable when in use and are very comfortable. I would not change anything about the design.

Q3 - Tena is much better due to their higher absorbency and ability to reduce smell. I feel less self-conscious when using them

Q4 – I have used the Tena Mini which are thicker and were useful when I had a lot of leakage due to a persistent cough. These were especially handy at night.

Q5 - I think this is very good value for money.

Q6 - Yes I would recommend them and would buy them again as they are very comfortable and effective.

bbrisotto · 05/01/2015 20:36

Q1 - I'm 32 and have been experiencing leakages mainly in since I have been pregnant with my second child. It started to become worse when I had a cold which left me with a cough that I couldn't shift. I would be worried when driving to work and knowing I would have a coughing fit , wet myself a bit and have to go to work uncomfortable.
Q2 – the pads where fine, a little thicker than I thought they would be though. I would feel like I had wasted one if I hadn't really needed it but it was reassuring to know that it was there. I think an improvement would be a wrapper you could put them in after for disposal.
Q3 - thicker and more robust.
Q4 – none, I was thinking of trying these anyway.
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? - yes, although our you had to change frequently that would become expensive.
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage? - yes and yes.

Tenatime · 05/01/2015 20:41

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
I am 40 with 4 children and have had significant bladder trouble since my 4th pregnancy. I have had physio, several surgeries and uncountable pelvic floor exercises. Things were very much improved but have recently gone very downhill since another health issue means that I have medication that irritates my bladder. It gives me urgency and leaking.
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?

I like that the product comes in various forms, boxed singles and wrapped for handbags, and they are thinner than the other brands, they feel more discreet. The only added extra I would like is a pcak that comes with some gentle wipes for when travelling to freshen up a little with some non-scented wipes.
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?

I would normally only use panty liners which need changing very quickly and times like now when my bladder is worse they do not feel like they provide enough protection. Tena are far more suitable for the bad days.
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?*
They are thinner and shorter so they feel less conspicuous when I am wearing them (especially when in communal work changing rooms).
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
Yes I do, they seem the right price for the quality of product
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
I would definitely recommend Tena to help with the bad days, they are not going to fix the underlying issue but they give the confidence to carry on with our days when we need it, none of want to suffer from bladder trouble and we all need a little extra help at times. Having the right product can make a huge difference.
Thank you for including me on this trial.

Danso · 05/01/2015 20:59

Q1 - I am 40 yrs old and I started suffering from a little urine leakage when badly coughing or sneezing after giving birth to my first child seven years ago. Going for a run after having my second child I experienced quite a big urine leakage when I went for a run and found I couldn't drink anything for at least an hour before the run and then make sure I would empty my blather and wear a sanitary towel to prevent any mayor embarrassments. Leakage was also worse during second and third pregnancies when sneezing or coughing.
Q2 – very easy to use, always stayed in the right place (eg wouldn't come detached), I was impressed by the security the product gave as they felt a lot better then normal pantyliners as they were a bit thicker.
Q3 - a lot better and an added benifit was that they didn't irritate my skin which is a problem I tend to have with normal pantyliners these days.
Q4 – Only normal pantyliners or sanitary pads when running. Tena pads are much better.
Q5 - quite good value for money, however the extra expense it worth it, if not for the extra security Tena pads give.
Q6 - definitely!

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
I am 35 and have two young children. I started with a small amount of leakage after my first child, which got slightly worse after my second. I don't suffer too badly, but I'm lazy with pelvic floor exercises! The issue happens when I sneeze or cough without a totally empty bladder, and occasional other times.
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
Easy to use, very discreet. I was concerned they'd be a bit long but on use they were fine.
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
I usually just use small pantyliners, which are usually sufficient for my small amount of leaking and generally keep me fresh. If I had a more persistent problem I would definitely switch to TENA.
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
No, I've never used a specific product before.
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
Yes, I think this a fair price for the product.
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
Yes, definitely consider buying and would recommend.

Q1) I am 37 have six children one set of twins. When I cough or sneeze etc I leak. This has happened since the birth of my third child.

Q4) no

Q6) yes I would buy them and also recommend them.

NewNameFor2015 · 06/01/2015 06:51

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
I'm 27, I've had slight bladder weakness since I had surgery in 2008. since having my 3 children (2010, 2012, 2014) It has got worse with each one.

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
Very easy to use, although I prefer products that are wrapped, I don't like liners floating about in my bag then using them.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
I didnt notice much difference to be honest, but my bladder isnt very severe so have never had problems with absorbency etc

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
I usually use a sanitary towel or panty liner, whatever I have in the cupboard and remember to buy!

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
yes

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
I probably would both buy them in the future and recommend them, if I was ever talking about it with friends...so probably more likely to happen on Mumsnet!

mrskittyfantistico · 06/01/2015 09:56

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy? - I'm 47 and have been experiencing light infrequent leakage since the birth of my 3rd child 7 years ago. It happens when I'm running, jumping etc..
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?- Easy to use, far smaller than I was expecting which made it comfortable but I still found myself being very careful not to leak as I wasn't sure it was up to the job!
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear? First product of this type I have tried. Compared to sanitary wear it was compact and comfortable.
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare? - No.
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? - Yes, this seems reasonable.
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage? I would probably try something bigger from the range to reassure myself that they would work and then hopefully retry these when I felt confident they would work.

spagbollocks · 06/01/2015 10:46

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy? 25, didn't have any issue with leaking til after my first pregnancy (difficult birth and 3rd degree tear). Sudden actions like coughing, sneezing seem to cause it. Now pregnant with number 2 and it's getting worse!

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see? Yes it was easy to use, didn't find any fault with the liner

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear? Tena seems to stay drier for longer (at least feels like it does)

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare? No only panty liners

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? Yes it's a price I'd be happy to pay

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage? Yes and yes

shrunkenhead · 06/01/2015 10:46

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?

I am 37, I have suffered from it since pregnancy 6 years ago. I had an op to fix my bladder weakness 4 years ago and while it fixed it I still have slight leakage occasionally if I have forgotten to go to the loo/too busy etc for a few hours

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?

Easy to use, did the job.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?

No real difference tbh, might be better for those with worse leakage problems.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?

Have used Tena p[roducts in the past but the bulkier ones due to necessity.
These were obviously thinner and less noticeable.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?

I guess.... though I think women should be encouraged to get their problem fixed properly with a simple operation rather than keeping pad providers in business due to embarrassment.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
Probably not, I'd tell them to get a referral for a bladder op eg TVT tape. Worked pretty well for me!

AliBingo · 06/01/2015 11:03

Q1. I'm 39 and have had some stress incontinence issues after 2 pregnancies. Especially when I have a cough.
Q2. Product was easy to use and the sticky strip was stickier than other brands. I didn't like having to remember which end was front and back though.
Q3. I think they're better quality with softer materials and better sticky strip.
Q4. As per question 3, they're better than the supermarket own brand sensitive bladder liners I usually use.
Q5. Seems a but expensive, £1.49 would be much more palatable, but it's not too bad considering the high quality of the product.
Q6. I'd buy if they were on offer or if my problem got any worse but for now my cheap ones will probably do. Yes I would recommend them to others.

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?

Really liked the product, very easy to use.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?

I like the fact they are designed for urine leakage instead of discharge

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?

No other products used

Yes, I will continue to use Tena lady and recommend it.

Q1-I'm 41 with three children including twins. I started having a small amount of leakage after first labour (forcept delivery) Since giving birth to twins (normal delivery) I have found I get leakage when coughing, sneezing and running is out of the question.

Q2- Product is good and easy to use.

Q3- Slightly thicker but otherwise the same size.

Q4- I usually use a normal panty liner so Tena was more absorbent.

Q5- Good value.

Q6- Yes I would use them and recommend others.

Q1. Im 30 and have 1 child. Im disabled and am currently under investigation for inflammatory bowel disease. My child is 6. I have been aware of damp knickers for quite a while, at least a few years. Often im not aware of leaking, but when i laugh alot i really need to pay attention to my pelvic floor! Also, ive noticed o get some key in the lock syndrome, where i have managed to hold on for quite some time but leak when i am going to sit on the toilet, or very close to being able to go.

Q2. I like the product, have had no difficultys using it.

Q3. I have used panty liners before but i feel safer using these due to them having more padding.

Q4.As above. Also like the fact there is no smell when using them.

Q5. Yes. I would pay this.

Q6. Yes I will continue to use and recommend

Climbontoyourseahorse · 06/01/2015 17:53

Q1. I am 37 and have three children, since having dc3 I have noticed some leakage especially if I have been busy and not been to the toilet for a while.
Q2. Product was very easy to use.
Q3. These seem better at keeping me dry than normal panty liners.
Q4. I have never used anything specifically for bladder weakness, only standard panty liners.
Q5. They are slightly more expensive than my normal panty liners but they do seem to work better so I do think they ate good
value and would pay the extra.
Q6. Yes I would use them again and I would recommend them.

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy? I am mid 40s and I've had mild stress leakage for 20ish years since the birth of my first child, this has got increasingly worse with age and also another pregnancy and birth (over 9lb natural fast delivery). I sometimes leak when I sneeze unless I stop and clench and also when I run (I have come back from some runs absolutely soaking and completely embarrassed), it has put me off going on occasions.

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see? The product was exactly what I expected from this brand. It was slim compared to other towels and stayed in place perfectly. I felt confident when running wearing it.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear? This is the 1st time I've used a specific product and it did the job perfectly.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare? I've not used any specific bladder weakness products before. I usually use a panty line.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? V good value.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage? I will and I would. I would also suggest they get checked out at the doctors if it is an ongoing problem. If anything, this survey has encouraged me to do so.
