This is the feedback thread for the lights by TENA product test.

lights by TENA say "there are four products in the lights by TENA range. They’re all specially designed for Oooops moments. They absorb faster than ordinary liners, keeping you feeling drier and fresher. They all have specially designed odour-control. But they do differ in size and profile."

Testers - please share on this thread your responses to the following questions and please also add your feedback on survey form link which we emailed to you.

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

Every tester who adds their feedback on this thread and who completes the survey form will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will get a £150 voucher for the store of their choice.

Please note, your anon comments may be used by lights by TENA on their website, social media and possibly elsewhere. Please only add a comment if you're happy for it to be used.

thanks and good luck!

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
45 years old. Three children; two very long labours, one ended in CS, other in nasty forceps delivery 6 years ago. Suffer both stress and urge incontinence since then (and occasional fecal incontinence, but that has improved). Worse since having a hysterectomy 9 months ago. Have cut out coffee and only drink tea once a day which helps. Was referred to gynae team but they wanted to leave any urine issues until after my hysterectomy (for 1st stage womb cancer rather than prolapse issues) Haven't plucked up the courage to go back yet as I am overweight and have been told they won't do any surgery until I can shed some weight. I know myself that it improves vastly below a certain weight.

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
Product very easy to use. Liked the thin-ness of it. Would prefer individually wrapped product, but know this exists in the range.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
I usually use a more heavy duty product during the day as they aren't absorbent enough when I have a big urge, but these are fine for night-time and when at home.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
Yes, supermarket own brand (tesco, sainsbury's, boots), always envive. Prefer the Tena range of products as they are more absorbent, and less bulky.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?. Yes, but try to buy when they are on offer to save money. I believe that they should be available on the NHS though as my issues are related to delivery of my baby ion an NHS hospital!

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

Yes, already do and will continue to buy lights and other Tena products. If it came up in conversation, I would recommend them.

LackaDAISYcal · 28/12/2014 16:36

and to add, one small issue I have is that if I am kneeling on the floor and get any leakage, the pad doesn't seem to absorb as quickly and it runs to the back, making a wet spot on my knickers. Not sure if this is just about angles though as it happens with other pads too.

rachaelsit · 28/12/2014 20:42

Q1 - i am 30, I have one child who is 7 months old, i experienced leakage in late pregnancy and after the birth continuing up to now. Birth was by assisted delivery.

Q2 – the product is good but I found these a little on the big side.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear? I wear the tena lights but they are considerably smaller than these which I prefer. Found these too long and a touch bulky.

Q4 – i have never used any other brand.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? I think this is fair value for money but may try cheaper ones if there was an option at the time.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage? Yes I would, I'd stick to the thinner ones you do but I'd recommend these for friends with a little more leakage as I guess they're good for that.

truckingirl · 28/12/2014 22:00

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy? I'm 47 and the leakage started during my fifth pregnancy so 12 years ago. It's generally caused by sneezing and coughing.
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see? Good fit and comfortable I like them.
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear? I like that they are thin and discreet
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare? Definitely superior to others I have used
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? Very good value for money at that price
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage? Yes I'd buy again and would recommend.

hannibalismisunderstood · 29/12/2014 12:41

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?

Age 42, occasional leakage when cough or sneeze so worse when I have a cold but I have year round allergies so can sneeze a lot! Experienced it for about 5 years

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?

Easy to use, wings would be good

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?

Sticks well, doesn't crumple so about the same as med-high price San pro

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?

Only used San pro - this is much better

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?

If it came with a discrete bag to hold pads in handbag yes, if not then it's a bit expensive

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
Possibly

Ticktick · 29/12/2014 12:47

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?

I'm 31 and 33 wks pregnant with my first, occasional leakage has started to occur as a result of this pregnancy. It's not something I have experienced before.

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?

The product was largely what I expected but was slightly stiffer and thicker than I anticipated. Improvement in those areas might be good. Otherwise, easy to use and stuck well.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?

Iv not bought this type of product before.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?

I've not used other products.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?

I would buy at this price.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

I might buy a lesser absorbency in future to try. I would recommend to a friend.

fixyourgardengate · 29/12/2014 14:37

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
I am 36 years old, with two children under 3. I first had a problem following the birth of my eldest child (a ventous delivery combined with a hideous cold and cough) and am now prone to occasional leakage when I cough or sneeze. I tend to wear a pad for security, especially whilst at work (I am a Postie and am often out delivering for 4 hours at a time with no comfort breaks.)

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
I like the size and shape, good adhesive and not too wide for my underwear.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
I have tended to purchase the cheapest option available in whichever supermarket I am in so comparable products are bulkier and often wide than my underwear which can cause chaffing.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
As above, I would definitely use these in the future, particularly as my pelvic floor finally seems to be regaining some strength and these are much more discrete than the other products I have been using.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
Yes, and I definitely plan to purchase more in the future.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
Yes.

dandelionsRflowers · 29/12/2014 14:42

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy? I'm 31 ans it started 6years ago during my first pregnancy.
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see? Very easy to use, would like option of individually wraped liners and possibly with wings.
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear? Usually wear a light liner which isn't designed for urine leakage, TENA certainly did.
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare? Never.
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? Pretty good value.
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage? I would buy in the future, and reccomend to friends.

P.s thanks for the discreet packaging!

jennycog12 · 29/12/2014 15:27

Q1 - I'm 39. Since the birth of my child almost 6 years ago, I have suffered with bladder weakness. This is particularly bad in cycles or when I laugh or have a cold.
Q2 – The Tena Lights are like a thick panty liner which keep you fresh and clean and dry all day and all night. I would like to see them a bit longer so they can be used all night long or if you have a really bad leakage, they don't get on your knickers or come through to your clothes.
Q3 - Much thicker but still discreet than ordinary panty liners. Able to soak up a lot of wetness.
Q4 – They are good.
Q5 - Yes, the price is good value for money and relatively inexpensive.
Q6 - Yes, I would use them in the future and perhaps, if I wasn't too embarrassed, I would recommend them to others.

startalloveragain · 29/12/2014 16:47

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?

Mid 40's, pregnancy and a long labour didn't help, and a violent cough helped even less! Every cold and I'm needing Tena to keep my dignity intact.

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?

Very easy - I liked how it gives you the direction to place it (I had never realised this could be important!) and found them comfortable and discreet.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?

Great! I forgot it was there which was what I hoped I would get - it doesn't feel like a giant brick between your legs.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?

No, other than other pads like this which are much thicker.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?

Very good value considering what they do.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

Yes, and I already have today!

Nimo13 · 29/12/2014 16:59

Q1- have a disk problem in my back which can cause what they call 'saddle numbness' which can lead to occasional urine leakage. It's got worse very recently. I am 43.
Q2- easy to use, mildly uncomfortable as rigid but very reassuring. Would be good to have indicator to show leakage has occurred.
Q3- less worry than normal liners
Q4- no
Q5- I think they are pricey as normal liners are only £1 for about 40
Q6- I would buy, especially if cheaper

mum2eci · 29/12/2014 17:55

Q1 - I am 44 with 3 kids (12,9 & 7 years). Have noticed urine leakage since first pregnancy. Much worse when coughing/sneezing etc.
Q2 - I found the product very easy to use. Did notice odour on the pad whilst using so would recommend improvement to help combat that.
Q3 - I attend the gym for fitness classes and in the past have just worn panty liners. Have never used products specifically for urine leak and think they are much better than sanitary wear (more suited to purpose - correct thickness etc).
Q4 - Have only used sanitary products previously. These much better and serve purpose.
Q5 - The £1.99 RRP is very reasonable in my opinion for the amount of pads in the pack. I would definitely pay this amount.
Q6 - I would definitely buy these pads in the future and would recommend them to others :-)

Mems · 29/12/2014 18:19

Q1 - I'm 52 and after meticulous pelvic floor excercising after my 3 children thought I might have avoided this problem, but unfortunately over the past 3-4 years it's been getting harder to "hold on" - especially if sneezing or coughing! I don't think it's linked to pregnancy but probably menopause and growing older.

Q2 – I use pant liners anyway and these were just as easy to use. Stuck well, and were absorbent without any trace of odour (not, she adds hastily, that I wet myself on a regular basis - but if I don't go for a pee before i leave the office, by the time I get home I'm sometimes caught a bit short Blush - ahem!)
Q3 - TENA liners are thicker but not too thick - definitely not like old santiary towels which felt like bricks. They're just slightly thicker pant liners really.
Q4 – No, haven't used other bladder weakness products
Q5 - £1.99 for 28 liners is good value for money - the cost is only 1p more than my usual pant liners per liner, so that's very reasonable. But my pant liners are often on special offer and if it's a BOGOF there is a price differnece.

Q6 - I think I'm a convert - and will definitely recommend them to my cousin who is about to go into hospital for a "procedure" to cure a leaky bladder. So maybe it's a family thing?

Pinkypurrrfect · 29/12/2014 18:58

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy? Im 30 years old and have a 15 month old. Pre-pregnancy i had a pelvic floor die for but im afraid now all this has changed. Sneezes now make me nervous :-)
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see? I love Tena, i have used them a few times beforehand. The only thing i would like to see is more individual packaging.
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear? I would usually use Tena as i have found it to be the most comfortable and visible.
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare? None
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? I would happily pay this price.
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage? I would most definately recommend to any new mums, especially in the beginning few weeks of pregnancy.

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
I am 36 have a 8 year old DS, only noticed slight urine leakage after his birth when sneezing, however it has got worse over last few years, I notice it most in gym classes, I can't do jumping jacks!
Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
Simple, easy to use
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
I don't use sanitary wear
Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
Never tried anything before, kept wishing it would improve!
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
Yes, although a voucher or special offer will prompt me to buy
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
I will definitely be buying them

heyday · 29/12/2014 21:32

Whilst I find them quite comfortable and easy to use I am not sure I will continue to use them after this pack has gone. I will probably just revert back to using nothing again.
They are fairly good value for money and therefore I would recommend them to others with a similar problem as they do work.
I do think that being on this trial has made me re focus my efforts on doing my pelvic floor exercises more rigorously.

PCBurnsarrestedme · 29/12/2014 21:40

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
42, 2 kids emc and e/c delivery. Suffered leakiness as long as I can remember (even as late teeneager) much worse since children
Q2 what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
very easy, comfy and very absorbant
Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
far superior, they mop up even when I had a horrendous cough and my bladder let go
Q4 Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare? Always, no where near as good in comparison. Tena cover is alot better (less plasticky and sweaty) they also hold a lot more
Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is 1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not? Yes
Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
I will buy them as my regular every day product

ILoveMyCaravan · 29/12/2014 22:26

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?
I'm 51 and have experienced urine leakage for several years. Definitely linked to pregnancy, last one was 11 years ago, so since then.

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?
The product was easy to use, but I would like to see it a bit thinner if possible.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?
They are soft and comfortable, but a bit too thick for my liking.

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?
I have used Always panty liners for bladder weakness but I think that TENA compared better for absorption.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?
I think this is excellent value for money.

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?
I would buy them in the future and would recommend them to others.

SweetPeaPods · 29/12/2014 22:38

Q1- 30 and related to 2 pregnancies within 18m. Noticed bladder weakness in 2nd pregnancy especially while coughing.
Q2- easy to use but bigger than I would like
Q3- much more absorbent than usual panty liner but bigger and less comfortable.
Q4- no so can't compare
Q5- yes, good value but tend to buy toiletries when on special offer to save money.

Q6- not sure if I would buy again but would recommend due to excellent absorbency.
Thanks for letting me test these.
I've tried to complete the questionnaire also and it says I've already done it, but I don't remember doing it?

MissRee · 30/12/2014 11:21

Q1 - please give us some background on you and urine leakage - how old are you, how long have you experienced this and is it linked to a specific event eg pregnancy?

Leakage not linked to a specific event. I'm 33 and this has been happening for the last 6 years or so. Medical professionals weren't interested when I went - said my pelvic floor was fine so no further action was needed. I've since had a baby and am now pregnant with second child so it has got worse.

Q2 – what about the product itself - was it easy to use? What improvements would you like to see?

Very easy to use - they could be thinner.

Q3 - how do lights by TENA compare to your usual product or to your sanitary-wear?

I have been using Always products before now, which are much thinner than Tena and don't have the stigma attached! A packet of Always sat on the side in the bathroom won't be noticed as much as a packet of Tena!

Q4 – Have you used other products for bladder weakness? If so what and how did lights by TENA compare?

See above.

Q5 - the RRP of Lights by Tena is £1.99 for 28 liners - do you think this is good value for money or not?

Fairly good value for money - it certainly wouldn't put me off buying them. I do feel that they could be subsidised by the NHS as a necessary product though, especially if they aren't willing to help with the issue in other ways!

Q6 - would you buy lights by TENA in the future and would you recommend them to someone else who was suffering from urine leakage?

Possibly. I'd much rather buy Always and not have the stigma attached though, sorry.
