AngelieMumsnet · 22/08/2014 14:00

This thread is for the 50 Mumsnetters recruited to try out the ovulation test from Clearblue.

Here’s what ClearBlue say "Clearblue Ovulation Test with Dual Hormone Indicator is breakthrough product because it tracks both luteinising hormone and estrogen it is the only Ovulation test that typically identifies 4 or more Fertile days, that’s more than any other Ovulation test. This means you have more advanced notice of when your body is preparing for ovulation than any other test."

All testers are currently trying to conceive and selected testers have been sent a Dual Hormone Ovulation Kit - RRP £29.99.

We are asking for feedback across a three month period. We have added some questions below on first impressions: please answer them as soon as you can after receiving the Dual Hormone Ovulation Kit. We will add some more questions across the next three months.

All testers who try the Dual Hormone Ovulation Kit and leaves their feedback as requested will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

First impressions
How long you have been TTCing and whether this is for a first baby or 2nd, 3rd etc.
Please say what other products, if any, you have tried when TTCing.
On opening the package what were your first impressions of the kit?
What was the packaging like?
How quickly did you get started with it?
How easy were the instructions to follow? Did you understand it all?
Any other comments on first impressions?

As a wrap up please could all testers let Clearblue know their responses to the following questions:

  1. Based on your experiences with the Clearblue Ovulation Test with Dual Hormone Indicator, do you think you would recommend it to someone else you knew who was TTCing? Or do you think you'd recommend it on MN if you saw a post asking this or from someone who was TTCing like you were?
  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?
  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?
  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

and finally any last comments on this product?

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Clearblue on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks and good luck (with everything!)

I have really irregular cycles (can go two months before a period) and decided to use the Clearblue ovulation test to track as TTC for baby 1. As I am so irregular I decided to start tracking only a couple of days after the end of my period. On the fourth day (so only about day 6/7 of my cycle) I got a flashing smiley face and have had a second one today. I am confused as I was expecting to go at least ten days before I saw anything as I started testing so early. Am I getting my surge very early in my cycle or is it just too much for the kit to start testing this soon? If this is not the way to do it then what day should I start using the test to account for a potential cycle of 2 months?! Thanks very much for your thoughts - starting to become a little obsessive...!

Hi, I have finally been able to start using my CB ovulation test this morning after my AF returning (nearly 14 weeks after implant removal!). I have no idea how long my cycle is as I have only had one AF since being on hormonal contraception so I have gone for an average length and did a test this morning (CD 9). I got a solid smiley face - could that be correct that I'm ovulating on CD9? I have no other signs of ovulation. I have recently had a blood test that showed my levels of FSH and LH to be the wrong way round (although they would have been normal if I was ovulating at the time of the blood test, which is possible), which may indicate PCOS (I'm having a scan on Thurs to find out). If I do have PCOS would this affect the results of the CB ovulation test at all? Ie. could I be getting a false positive peak fertility?

alien11 · 04/11/2014 08:16

How's everyone getting along? I've finished the trial now , had peaks but no bfp :-(

Babydust36 · 11/11/2014 07:10

Yes definitely I ovulated earlier than I thought or earlier than the internet cheapies showed.

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

Yes-but got my bfp the first moth of using the test.

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

I got my bfp the first month of using so was very happy!

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

It had a big impact.

Yes absolutely, easy to use, and worked for me!

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

I had my BFP using this

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

I felt in control and it was easy and clear...apart from the difficult to open foil packets, you need to keep scissors handy

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

I think it's the reason I got my BFP

and finally any last comments on this product?

Totally recommend this.

Yes, absolutely. Easy product to use, clear instructions, and does what it is supposed to

2. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?
No longer TTC

3. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?
We had a wobble so I only ended up using it to TTC for 2 months - my husband and I are not longer together as he was TTC with someone else as well

4. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?
At first it was fun, then my circumstances changed.

I would recommend it both on here and in real life as I think it is a fantastic product.

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

Yes I will continue to use it as it is useful to know when I ovulate and to check over the coming months if I ovulate on the same day each month or if it varies.

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

I didn't get pregnant :( but I think that is because it took me 1.5 years with my daughter so maybe we have fertility problems

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

It helped knowing when I was ovulated as it didn't feel like such guesswork ifyswim? All in all a fantastic product

Yes

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

Got pregnant first month of using this, so not relevant, but I would think I'd be put off by price (I don't know how much it costs, but my perception is that it's not cheap)

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

Only used for one month, wasn't sure what to expect and I hadn't known when to expect my smiley face as have had erratic cycles. Slightly surprised to get pregnant, as I wasn't sure I believed my smiley face!
As others have mentioned, I also struggled to get into the packets when busting for a wee first thing in the morning...

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

Pregnant

I would definitely recommend this product for people.

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

I'm not still trying as I got a Bfp first month of using it!

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

I only used it one month. It turns out I ovulate much earlier in my cycle than I thought. We were trying for 3 months before I used the ov kit.

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your Ttcing.
It didn't have any as I'm pregnant.

and finally any last comments on this product?
This was really easy to use. The packaging a bit difficult to get open first thing before going to the toilet.

Yes I would reccomend it as I was worried that I didn't ovulate. I too ovulated earlier than I thought.

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?
Yes
  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?
I found the tests very easy to use and it made me a lot more relaxed about the whole process. I was worried that I didn't ovulate because it has taken us almost a year to conceive.
  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?
It made us a lot more relaxed. It was great to know when I ovulated so that we knew when to Dtd.

and finally any last comments on this product?
Fingers crossed it will help me to get my BFP soon.

I am undecided. I think tracking your ovulation does create additional stress to an already worrying process. If I knew someone who had very regular cycles I think I would recommend it but it hasn't worked for me.

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

No. I have repeatedly had what I think are false positives with this monitor, where I will get a positive result, then two days later negative, then positive again a couple of day later. It's confusing and stressful.

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

I gave up and decided to chart my BBT and track bodily signs instead. I may use the test as a back up if I think I may be about to ovulate but won't rely on it as I have varied (long) cycles so I don't know when to start testing each month.

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

It made me worry more as I was confused as to why I got what seem to have been false positives.

Would definitely recommend it.

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

I think I will probably carry on using it, if I stop it'll be because it ttc is stressful and sometimes I think it might be better to relax and let nature take it course!

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

Thought it was excellent. I found it accurate and took the guessing game out of whether the opk is positive. My period started 14 days after a solid smilie so it was right.

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

Not managed to get my bfp yet but fingers crossed. It made me worry less about whether I was ovulating or not and gave me a rough idea of when my period was due.

and finally any last comments on this product?

The only thing I can fault it on is its a little pricey and the fact that the first test is always low! Seems like a waste to me although there may be a technical reason why this happens. Once I'd worked out roughly when I was ovulating I just needed a few sticks. All in all I thought it was good and tbh much better than the more expensive cbfm.

I would recommend the product, particularly if someone wasn't sure when they were ovulating or had been trying for a while without success.

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

No longer TTC as pregnant.

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

We conceived the second cycle we used the product.

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

As above - we conceived the 2nd cycle we used the product. I would however say that it's not the most romantic way to go about things, but for us it worked, so it was worth it.

and finally any last comments on this product?

Not really - it was as I expected it to be.

Yes it was easy to use and more convenient than the monitor

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

Yes but not continuously - I will use it for a cycle to check my ovulation date but then have a couple of cycles off I expect

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

OK, no great difference in the processes to the other types of tests I have used but like being able to use in the morning and it is easy to read.

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

None

and finally any last comments on this product?
I did like it but unfortunately for me I never had any solid smileys (but I know I did ovulate as have been having other tests simultaneously). I think it is expensive and when TTC long term it is not affordable to use all of the time and meant that I tried to use as few sticks as possible.

Yes would recommend to pinpoint ovulation however it didn't work for me even after getting peak fertility symbols.

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

Would love too but can't afford the cost!

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

It was fine, fiddly to open packets to get FMU !

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

It made me ttc on the peak days but it didn't work so likelihood of fertility problems Sad
