Clearblue Ovulation Test with Dual Hormone Indicator - Feedback Thread NOW CLOSED

AngelieMumsnet · 22/08/2014 14:00

This thread is for the 50 Mumsnetters recruited to try out the ovulation test from Clearblue.

Here’s what ClearBlue say "Clearblue Ovulation Test with Dual Hormone Indicator is breakthrough product because it tracks both luteinising hormone and estrogen it is the only Ovulation test that typically identifies 4 or more Fertile days, that’s more than any other Ovulation test. This means you have more advanced notice of when your body is preparing for ovulation than any other test."

All testers are currently trying to conceive and selected testers have been sent a Dual Hormone Ovulation Kit - RRP £29.99.

We are asking for feedback across a three month period. We have added some questions below on first impressions: please answer them as soon as you can after receiving the Dual Hormone Ovulation Kit. We will add some more questions across the next three months.

All testers who try the Dual Hormone Ovulation Kit and leaves their feedback as requested will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

First impressions
How long you have been TTCing and whether this is for a first baby or 2nd, 3rd etc.
Please say what other products, if any, you have tried when TTCing.
On opening the package what were your first impressions of the kit?
What was the packaging like?
How quickly did you get started with it?
How easy were the instructions to follow? Did you understand it all?
Any other comments on first impressions?

As a wrap up please could all testers let Clearblue know their responses to the following questions:

  1. Based on your experiences with the Clearblue Ovulation Test with Dual Hormone Indicator, do you think you would recommend it to someone else you knew who was TTCing? Or do you think you'd recommend it on MN if you saw a post asking this or from someone who was TTCing like you were?

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

and finally any last comments on this product?

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Clearblue on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks and good luck (with everything!)

Ah sorry to hear that alien, I sometimes think it would be easier if these early tests didn't exist. If we knew you had to wait a good two weeks before you could find out then you could put it out of your mind and not get into these mind games.

also would have saved me a bloody fortune when TTC DS for 14 cycles

I wouldn't give up all hope, Alien. 15miu is very sensitive. Was the postive one more concentrated wee than the negative one? That would potentially explain the difference. Digital tests aren't as sensitive so don't always detect a positive as early - clear blue digital is 50miu and the conception indicator is about 25miu.

Try again with first morning wee and a non digital one tomorrow or the next day.

Thanks everyone :-) the first one ( v.faint positive) was done at 1030 pm last night and other ( Digi)done around 11am this morning. I have one clearblue non Digital left from the dual pack but will leave it until the weekend if no AF. And then test sat/sun morning wee. It's interesting hearing about the different sensitivities of the tests. So the 15miu is the one that had the faint line so be interesting to see what happens. I have the clearblue one with a cross if pregnant left so wonder what that's miu is. But worried one late at night was Evap as surely best wee ( haha) is first thing?

I guess I have to wait for AF before considering starting the next ovulation sticks? Interested to know what exactly is going on with my cycle

Hi alien :) I waited for my first proper AF then started testing on cd7 because I have no idea how long my cycles are going to be now I'm off the pill and didn't want to miss it in case it was early.still getting blank circles so far but hopefully I'll get a smiley soon lol

How frustrating alien :(

No luck for me this month, AF arrived today :(

Hopeful for next cycle though as if this one is anything to go by my fertile period should be while DH and I both have a week off, so hopefully more opportunity to catch the egg (we are shift workers so schedule clashes can be problematic when TTC)!

Not sure if I can post here as not part of the trial but started using these in my last cycle and wanted to add my feedback so far?

Age 34, ttc #2, last cycle was cycle 2. Decided to try these as have very irregular cycles and the idea of a 4 day window for high fertility was appealing.

Think someone else has mentioned the foil packets are a nightmare to open. The tests look very high-tech and professional. They also seemed to be easy to use.....
My main issues were:
The first test will always be negative, apparently to get base levels. This is a horrendous waste of a stick. The kits are not cheap, especially if you have long, unpredictable cycles. Also, this meant the test missed my LH surge as I ovulated earlier than I expected. Had a positive on another test and Af arrived two weeks later. After 2 negatives when I now know I was in fact ovulating, I then got a week of flashy smileys just to confuse things further. A waste of another 7 tests!

Every time I tried to do the urine dip test, it came up with an error, despite holding for 15 seconds as directed. Using the stick in a stream of wee (sorry) was much more reliable but still got the odd error.

Errors - out of 15 tests used, 8 gave me a error symbol. One of these was my fault, but every other time I followed the instructions to the letter.

Not overly impressed so far, especially given the cost of the kits. I plan to use for one more month now that I am aware of some of the flaws above and by reading online reviews. However I got my best indication of ov from a cheap internet test so will not persevere with CB if we have a repeat of last month's performance!

Sorry, above should be a positive ov test on a different brand.

I've got my bfp yesterday on my second cycle of using these :) Needless to say am ecstatic (and terrified slightly)!

On my first cycle using these I never got peak fertility and carried on as I would have done without using them. This month I went straight to peak fertility on day 9 so I had sex then and day 10 and various other times after.

The only problem I have with the tests is what other ladies have said. When you're dying for a wee first thing they're a bugger to get into. I had to keep scissors in the bathroom.

So much good luck to everyone else! Stick at it, I know you'll get there soon x

I've had a couple of miscarriages this year and by the time I started testing this out - my cycle wasn't quite back to normal even after 5 months. Anyway - tested it out from day 11, had 3 days of not ovulating, then when it did indicate I was - the static smiley showed for 2 days and when I tested after that it was showing as not ovulating.

I wasn't sure if it was normal for the test to indicate the same symbol for two days, as the instructions didn't seem to mention it. I wasn't sure why I didn't get the flashing smiley.

Getting into the test strips was a bit difficult but it seemed straightforward enough to pee on it to get a reading.

I've seen the kits in some pharmacies and the cost of them is really high - is there not a way to get the cost down by having refills of the sticks without the device? Surely most of the cost goes on that per pack.

Hi all

Can anyone help me with when to start testing again ? I had two cycles of 28 days and then this one was 35 days. Should I test as if it was a 28 day or 45 day cycle? Am really hoping that next month is the month for me :)

Hi everyone,

I have just had my BFP after one cycle of using this after 6 months of ttc.

Exited, and a little terrified.

I agree with the difficulty opening the packet, I had to have scissors handy!

Thought I'll start testing yday cd7 and no smiley then today a static smiley?! Is this normal/have I messed the test up somehow? Or am I just ovulating early? Anyway dtd last night and will try over weekend too!

I bought this too...used it for 10 days....from day 1 to 6 negative results, then smiley faces for 4 days...however nothing happened as today I got my period Sad

So is it good this Clearblue or a waste of money?

Hi everyone,

I just had my bfp this morning, 2nd cycle of using the product!

I can't quite believe it, we have been trying for number 2 for nearly 2 years and had an miscarriage/ectopic in January. I am very happy but scared to be too happy after what happened in January
