Clearblue Ovulation Test with Dual Hormone Indicator - Feedback Thread NOW CLOSED

AngelieMumsnet · 22/08/2014 14:00

This thread is for the 50 Mumsnetters recruited to try out the ovulation test from Clearblue.

Here’s what ClearBlue say "Clearblue Ovulation Test with Dual Hormone Indicator is breakthrough product because it tracks both luteinising hormone and estrogen it is the only Ovulation test that typically identifies 4 or more Fertile days, that’s more than any other Ovulation test. This means you have more advanced notice of when your body is preparing for ovulation than any other test."

All testers are currently trying to conceive and selected testers have been sent a Dual Hormone Ovulation Kit - RRP £29.99.

We are asking for feedback across a three month period. We have added some questions below on first impressions: please answer them as soon as you can after receiving the Dual Hormone Ovulation Kit. We will add some more questions across the next three months.

All testers who try the Dual Hormone Ovulation Kit and leaves their feedback as requested will be entered into a prize draw where one winner will receive a £250 Love2Shop voucher.

First impressions
How long you have been TTCing and whether this is for a first baby or 2nd, 3rd etc.
Please say what other products, if any, you have tried when TTCing.
On opening the package what were your first impressions of the kit?
What was the packaging like?
How quickly did you get started with it?
How easy were the instructions to follow? Did you understand it all?
Any other comments on first impressions?

As a wrap up please could all testers let Clearblue know their responses to the following questions:

  1. Based on your experiences with the Clearblue Ovulation Test with Dual Hormone Indicator, do you think you would recommend it to someone else you knew who was TTCing? Or do you think you'd recommend it on MN if you saw a post asking this or from someone who was TTCing like you were?

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

and finally any last comments on this product?

Please note: your anonymous comments may be used by Clearblue on their website and other marketing materials.

Thanks and good luck (with everything!)

I actually searched this out to give feedback for this product. My fiancé and I had been trying to conceive for 2 years and had tried various cheap ovulation tests before with no luck. After many visits to doctor getting all my hormones and various other tests done finally got an appt with a fertility clinic - bought this test more to have concrete ovulation dates to give - got 4 flashing smiley faces day 15 to 19 then on day 20...the solid face appears. Shout out to my fiancé and we make the most of it before work. For the next 3 weeks I feel no different go away to Amsterdam for the weekend, party and live as usual then by some miracle nothing happens - this nothing means so much... Rush out to 24 tesco get another clear blue test (I'm a convert now) and those words I'd never believed I'd see Popped straight up 'PREGNANT'!!!!

Now 20 weeks on and find out the sex of our wee joy next week - couldn't be happier and wish I had forked out for this earlier on - would have saved me plenty in 'period not pregnant disappointment' wine!!

Good luck ladies - it can happen for u xxx

Question: so I am having my normal signs of ovulation but got an empty circle this morning... Any possibility I surged over the weekend ,(last tested Friday) and ovulated before testing?? Or is my body just playing tricks on me?

I wouldn't go out of my way to recommend the item, however, I wouldn't discourage someone either.

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

I will continue to use them while I'm TTC as it does help you pinpoint your days.

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

They were easy to use and compact to take with you when away from home.

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

None yet.

Based on your experiences with the Clearblue Ovulation Test with Dual Hormone Indicator, do you think you would recommend it to someone else you knew who was TTCing? Or do you think you'd recommend it on MN if you saw a post asking this or from someone who was TTCing like you were? I would recommend it if someone wanted to use ovulation sticks, if someone was new to trying or first baby I would say wait - but if someone wants to use them I would recommend them.

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

I am not sure, it made the frustration worse, as you knew you ovulated so why did you not fall pregnant - will possible try one more month as have some sticks left.

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test? I did not fall pregnant, but it did help work out when I am ovulating, as it is much earlier than I thought.

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing? - it made it a little frustrating and focussed! But probably made us stop too early (if that makes sense)

and finally any last comments on this product? - I think it was good, very long wait first thing in the morning, but I like the way you could walk away and get the answer again later! - Hard to open and less baby pictures please!

I definitely would and have recommended this product. It is pretty much the only thing that has given me answers since ttc. Along with temping it is excellent. I don't have proper periods and without this I wouldn't have known I was actually ov'ing.
Over the last 3 months it showed me that I was actually ovulating and when I was, enabling me to finally fall pregnant with my second pregnancy. Sadly, like my first I lost this one at 7 weeks. I am now using the product again to pinpoint when I start ovulating again and I hope to catch that egg again.

Honestly, without this product I was starting to go mad with the lack of control and not knowing. It has also helped in my sanity whilst trying to move back to conceiving after grieving.

The only thing I would say is that it is way to pricey. At £40 a box I am struggling, especially as I like many other women do not ovulate at day 14. I will not be able to continue to use it if I do not get pregnant this cycle.

Thank you for the opportunity to use this product, to know I am 'normal' (even if I don't get periods!!) And for the 5 blissful weeks of pregnancy.

I would and have recommended the product to other people. For me it has been far more reliable than any other product as the symbol is clear, rather than trying to analyse. After ttc for over 2 years I am very familiar with my cycle and ovulation time. I have been pregnant 3 times (but miscarried) in the past 2 plus years (twice from cycles where I have used this product). For me it's a no brainer that after so long ttc, the easiest most stress free way each month to monitor the cycle is to use a product like this that is so easy to interpret in comparison to other brands.
I have not had any issues with this product the last few months.
I will certainly continue to use the product in the future if the need arises. However I am starting ivf in 2 days time so may not need to use them for a while.

Yes will continue to use it.

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

Simple to use no problems and would continue to use it...with the hope that I'll eventually conceive!

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing? It's helpful to know when I'm ovulating as I can plan when to ttc rather than just do it and hope "for the best!"

Yes - I would

Or do you think you'd recommend it on MN if you saw a post asking this or from someone who was TTCing like you were?
Probably not - I'm not a big commenter on threads - definitely more of a lurker

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

I think so although we will start fertility treatment in January - so I only have one more month where we can make it happen naturally

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

It was easy to use - and the results were clear

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

It gave me confidence that I was ovulating, I also learnt that I ovulate early in my cycle - both these were positive things. However, knowing that we had to DTD on those days pressured things quite a bit - once month I have 6 days of smiley faces flashing before the non-flashing day...

I would recommend this product. I am no longer using it as fell pregnant during the second month. I got on with the product well and felt it gave me a better understanding of my body. It showed me I was ovulating on different days each month and pinpointed these times for me, optimising my chances. Now 12 weeks pregnant so thank you for the help.

I wouldn't recommend it straight away if everything was "normal" because I think its a bit clinical to jump straight into but if there were problems or it had been taking a while then yes

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

Yes, I will continue to use it

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

I found it really easy to use and that it gave results consistent with what my consultant said

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

It highlighted when I was ovulating which is difficult to detect now so was more aware of when it was "important" to ttc and when it would be unlikely to result in anything

Yes I would recommend on MN and personally to friends too.

  1. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

Yes, I still have one cycle of tests to use and will buy more if needed.

  1. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

Very well, I'm ovulating on the same day each month so that was nice to see.

  1. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

It's reassured me that I'm ovulating and highlighted my most fertile days which is great

Yes, I would recommend this product, actually I have mentioned it to a work colleague and my sister who are TTC.
If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it
I was lucky to get a BFP on the first cycle of using this product. Unfortunately, my recent 12 week scan has confirmed a MMC and so yes, I will continue to use this.
How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?
The test was easy to use and fairly straightforward. As in previous post, I did find the foil wrappers a little hard to open when trying to desperately hold onto a wee!
What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?
At first, it was a little strange being dictated by a smiley or non smiley symbol. My partner felt pressured and was a little put off by the daily “oh look fertile/non fertile day!”

Hey girlies, first month ttc using the dual hormone opk, on November 25 I had my solid smiley after 4 days of flashing ones. Am I 8 or 9 dpo? I'm a bit confused as which day counts as dpo? Hoping for my BFP despite already doing hpt and getting BFN :(

Hi,
I'm 30, in my 4 month of trying and I decided to purchase Clearblue Ovulation Test with Dual Hormone Indicator this month to see if I am ovulating - I have regular cycles but just wanted peace of mind. I've had a static smiley face today (no flashing faces before hand tho) I went on google tonight to see if anyone has had similar experiences and came across this thread which has been really useful! Just wanted to say thanks and hope everyone gets their wish soon.
Good luck all x

I would reccommend this test to anyone TTC

2. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?
I will continue until the tests run out, it's a little too expensive for me

3. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?
I found the packaging a bit fiddly, especially at 6 in the morning. That's when I started peeing in a pot (much simpler), I would like the test packaging to be a little more discreet, I had to remember to not leave it in the bathroom bin.

4. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?
It was a great help to pinpoint my actual ovulation and to reassure me that I was still ovulating regularly.

and finally any last comments on this product?
I thought it was a really good product, I'd like to see test strips available to purchase separately to reduce the cost.
Thanks again for choosing me for this trial, no BFP for me but I still have a months worth of strips left so who knows Smile

Yes, I would definitely recommend it. It worked first time for me, which I was quite shocked by! It made things very easy, a little clinical perhaps but when time is of the essence you can overlook that. No other feedback really, found it relatively easy to use, I do think the high peak should be the flashy face though, instead of the static one.
Thanks for involving me in the trial, the result is due in May 2015!

I've only been able to start actually using the product this month, thanks to some issues coming up during the first cycle I was TTC - it ended up being a 90 day cycle and I threw a bit of a hissy fit and ignored everything TTC-related! ...except for my husband, I suppose Wink

1. Based on your experiences with the Clearblue Ovulation Test with Dual Hormone Indicator, do you think you would recommend it to someone else you knew who was TTCing? Or do you think you'd recommend it on MN if you saw a post asking this or from someone who was TTCing like you were?

I would recommend it, as it's helping me work out whether my hormones are actually working. It makes me feel like I'm doing something proactive to keep an eye on my cycle, when in general I feel a bit powerless when it comes to TTC.

2. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?

Even though it's quite a lot of money, I'm seriously considering it as it really is helping me get to know my cycle after years on the pill.

3. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?

I've only actually been using it for a few days thanks to the 90 day cycle of doom, but it's been working very well and I'm excited to see my flashing smiley face!

4. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?

Time will tell.

and finally any last comments on this product?

The only thing I'd complain about is the packaging: it can be a bit difficult to break into the disposable sticks.

I'd definitely recommend it on MN and elsewhere if the situation arose.

2. If you're still TTCing, do you think you will continue to use it?
Got a positive result on a pregnancy test on Tues, just did it again last night to confirm - still in a state of shock really!

3. How did you get on over the last 3 months or so with the test?
It took a bit of time to get going as I miscalculated the date I could have started using it - so had to wait till the next cycle after receiving the kit. Initially found it a bit awkward to use the test but got the hang of it after a few days. It took the guess work out of when was best to try, especially given the fluctuations in ovulation I'd been experiencing.

4. What impact, if any, did it have on your TTCing?
It helped (see above!) - especially as my cycle hadn't really gone back to normal after a couple of miscarriages in the last year, so was good to see when I was actually ovulating.

and finally any last comments on this product?
I'd make the boxes less bulky; have refill packs of the test strips available to cut down on the costs and make it easier to open the foil packs that contain the test strips - it was a mission at times especially when you're busting for a wee first thing!
Thank you for the opportunity to test this out.

Hello,

Final feedback from me!

Thank you for the opportunity to be involved in this trial! Even though no bfp for me I have learnt a lot.

  1. I would definitely recommend the product

  1. I think I will continue to use it, even though it has given me similar results to internet cheapie tests the digital display gives you a lot more confidence. I also liked the early morning test time - very convenient for me.

  1. I have got on fine with the product- clear instructions. The hardest bit about testing is holding your wee on for 4 hours! During the day for me that is practically impossible!

  1. It hasn't changed of dtd really, but does concentrate efforts on the final 'peak' days. I use temping to detect ov and it does vary how long after 'peak' it goes up - it varies between 2 and 4 days.
