Kärcher SC2.500C review thread. Non-testers: Tell Kärcher about the cleaning tasks you avoid for a chance to win a SC2.500C Steam Cleaner! NOW CLOSED

AngelieMumsnet · 15/04/2014 14:50

This thread is for the 15 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC2.500C Steam Cleaner.

Kärcher say "The Kärcher SC2.500C Steam Cleaner makes light work of grease, dirt, stains and even limescale, delivering deep cleaning results with no chemicals or scrubbing. It kills 99.9% of bacteria with just the power of steam, and can be used on most surfaces around the home"

Non-Testers: What cleaning tasks do you have trouble with? Maybe you avoid cleaning the oven or dread scrubbing the bathroom? Are there any tasks that you think a steam cleaner could help with? Whatever your cleaning woes, Kärcher would love to hear about them.

Everyone who leaves their response on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win their own Kärcher SC2.500C!

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and in a week we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Did you find setting up the Steam Cleaner easy, were the instructions helpful?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
  • Where have you used the Steam Cleaner?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using a Steam Cleaner?
  • Did you you use this for more functions than you originally planned?

Thanks and good luck!

I hate cleaning the shower cubicle...the shower head is fixed so I can't spray water around the wall tiles to clean them off after scrubbing. I have to get naked in the shower and clean in the buff.

Hate hate hate it!

kmills · 17/04/2014 19:44

Non-Tester:

I absolutely dread cleaning the oven. It' so dirty & time consuming. Usually you have to leave products to soak overnight, so the task seems never ending. I'm sure a steam cleaner would have this done in no time.

ataraxia · 18/04/2014 07:00

I really don't like hoovering the stairs - our cleaner is too heavy and doesn't reach far enough

WaveorCheep · 18/04/2014 07:03

For me it's our bathroom - poorly ventilated and keeps growing black mould. And some pink mould Confused behind where the shower is attached to the wall that I can't reach. It's grim.

ilovetoski · 18/04/2014 10:42

Non Tester - I hate Bathrooms especially showers, would love to test a steam cleaner on my shower, get rid of any scummy orangey bits off the tiles !

CakeyCakeyCakey · 18/04/2014 10:43

Just wondering if there's any chance of it being delivered today or am I safe to take ds for a walk?

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 18/04/2014 13:51

Tester here - still waiting for mine, too. We have so many horrible jobs waiting to test this bad boy out on. Our new home looks as though it hasn't had a good deep clean since 1987. Also! Also! I was just perusing the Karcher website the saddo that I am and they have a wallpaper stripper attachment! All of our walls have old, manky textured wallpaper that needs coming off. So excited!

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 18/04/2014 13:53

DH and I will be purchasing the wallpaper attachment at a later date. Worth it for £24 if it gets rid of all of this horrible stuff for us.

I avoid cleaning...most things...

the oven - urgh. keep forgetting to put foil on the roasts. hideous.
the windows - we have internal and external glass - a huge job, and when you do a few the rest look worse, so it's best not to start

the kitchen floor - why I chose black tile with black grout I do sweep it but mopping it is beyond me
the bathroom - is still the original as we can't afford a new one yet. which means it is green, with black mould highlights. and tiles that I sometimes get time to weakly polish. Steam would bust the dirt off those suckers...
The hard floors - we have some wood and laminate, ingrained with the grime from 3 kids and visiting dogs galore.

all this talk of cleaning that I'm not doing is exhausting!

I was wondering the same thing, we have made sure that this week was free for delivery and it would be nice to know if we'd be ok to get out of the house and do things over the bank holiday weekend?

comicsansisevil · 18/04/2014 17:10

I'd say it won't come on BHs or Sundays, so may come tomorrow or Tuesday. I'm keeping my fingers crossed for tomorrow!

I avoid

Cleaning the inside of windows
Cleaning skirting boards
Moping the laminate hall daily-both front door and garden door lead from this so it really needs regular attention!

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 19/04/2014 12:51

Any testers in steam heaven yet?

CakeyCakeyCakey · 19/04/2014 13:56

Nope and I'm going to wear my window out any moment!

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 19/04/2014 15:28

We need an Easter miracle, Cakey!

CakeyCakeyCakey · 19/04/2014 15:37

F it's going to come it'll be now, just spent two hours tring to get ds to nap, he's finally asleep and I need the loo!

ToomuchIsBackOnBootcamp · 19/04/2014 15:37

Non tester. I avoid cleaning the oven, in fact it was so bad, husband paid for a wee man in a van to come do it. Now it's sparkling and I know I should keep it that way but ... Urrgh.

Floors suffer from muddy dog and child, sometimes feel like mopping is just moving the muck around. I swear the kitchen floor is a shade darker all over than when we moved in.

Also loathe trying to clean the shower cabinet glass walls. It's so awkward! Do I climb in and get soaked? Try to do it while in the shower anyway and get all frustrated and elbows bumped? And don't mention the stupid little overflow rim that goes black, yuck.

Also hate trying to get dog nose marks and small child handprints off mirrored wardrobes. Gah!

CakeyCakeyCakey · 19/04/2014 17:01

Dh is utterly convinced tha it's all an elaborate hoax.
Dh is a cock.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 19/04/2014 18:20

DH thinks I might be delirious and haven't actually been picked at all. He's putting the words "steam cleaner" in finger brackets now, as in "Well, when the supposed 'steam cleaner' arrives.."

Also a cock! Grin

CakeyCakeyCakey · 19/04/2014 18:39

M considering shoving it up his bum when it comes, would that void the warranty do you think?

Roseformeplease · 19/04/2014 20:35

Things I hate cleaning.......mm, let me see....

The house

The car

Anything really.

Although, with judicious use of teens (an useful workforce if you can put up with the moaning) I can get out of most things except the really grubby bits. Fridge seals and shelves. Showers, especially where gunk has gathered around rims and edges.

We also have an open fire so everything gets a bit black and coal dusty which is a real effort.

I really, really wanted to win this chance to test a steam cleaner. My house would have rubbed its little hands in glee at the thought of a good steam round the edges. Never mind......the eyes are going with age so, perhaps that is a good thing as the grit is less obvious.

HolidayArmadillo · 19/04/2014 21:05

Saga are you married to my DH? He was going to clean the kitchen cupboards yesterday and I said shame the steam cleaner isn't here yet and he gave it the whole air speech marks treatment. Pest.

SagaNorensLeatherTrousers · 19/04/2014 21:08

Not sure, Cakey but if you turn it on while shoving it up there it might be like reverse colonic irrigation?

CMOTDibbler · 19/04/2014 21:13

Am not keen on cleaning anything in particular, but I loathe cleaning the plugholes out most of all
