This thread is for the 15 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC2.500C Steam Cleaner.

Kärcher say "The Kärcher SC2.500C Steam Cleaner makes light work of grease, dirt, stains and even limescale, delivering deep cleaning results with no chemicals or scrubbing. It kills 99.9% of bacteria with just the power of steam, and can be used on most surfaces around the home"

Non-Testers: What cleaning tasks do you have trouble with? Maybe you avoid cleaning the oven or dread scrubbing the bathroom? Are there any tasks that you think a steam cleaner could help with? Whatever your cleaning woes, Kärcher would love to hear about them.

Everyone who leaves their response on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win their own Kärcher SC2.500C!

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and in a week we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Did you find setting up the Steam Cleaner easy, were the instructions helpful?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
  • Where have you used the Steam Cleaner?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using a Steam Cleaner?
  • Did you you use this for more functions than you originally planned?

Thanks and good luck!

Could it be unsafe for vitreous enamel ovens, or is it arse covering? But contradictory information is puzzling

Cleaning tasks I avoid as long as possible:

Apart from saying all of them, my top dreaded cleaning jobs are as follows:

cleaning the loo - never as bad as I think it will be once I do it, but I have 3 loos all with their own difficulties. I have yet to find a way to clean my boys' loo which has a tight fitting lid and it is impossible to get a cloth between the seat and the lid, right on the hinge. Yellowish deposits (hmm, can't think what would cause that Hmm) build up there. I bet a steam cleaner with a very narrow spout would make short work of that.

cleaning the oven - I can't use Oven Pride as I have wooden worktops and when I once used the above product, it permanently stained everywhere it splashed on Angry

cleaning shower cubicles - again, I have 3, plus another shower over a bath with a swing screen. We live in a very hard water area and I am aware, even as I am cleaning, that I am adding another layer of limescale to everything. If I bought a bottle of Cillit Bang a week, I still wouldn't keep on top of it

cleaning the kitchen floor - it's just a huge space as I have a huge kitchen. I try to clean it in sections but it is like the Forth Bridge.

Those are the worst jobs in my mind. I would also be interested to know if a steam cleaner could be used to occasionally clean the arm rests on sofas. After approx 14 years, one of my sofas arm rests are looking pretty grim.

I avoid cleaning the oven so much that my Mum comes over and does it for us. I cannot stand the grease and slime, no matter how much I try and clean it every week. I would love to know what it is like with grease / ovens.

No steam cleaner here, yet, either.

Non tester but I use my steam cleaner on fabrics (sofa arms, high chairs, car seats, buggy) and they come up like new. Also use it to get rid of the ice in my Arctic freezers. You can also blow the dust out from the back of radiators with it. Best invention ever!

I've had it out of the box, lots of wee attachments that I'm imagining using on the sink, the floor and the hob. Just for starters! I didn't realise you could blast steam at your clothes to get wrinkles out. This machine could gwnuinely change my life!!

I've quickly cleaned my kitchen flort- the lead is very short Sad blasted (using the crevice attachment) part of my kitchen floor and it looks clean, bobbled vinyl flooring is a filth trap.

Also quickly cleaned my leather sofas and radiators.

I am steam cleaner obsessed and I will be cleaning my curtains and floors again tonight

My husband has run off with it. He is ridiculously thrilled with the little jet nozzle.

After suggesting it is powerful enough to clean the darkness from my soul. Grin

Ours is here! We've just had a quick play so will answer the questions now and again in a week when we've tried it everywhere

  • Did you find setting up the Steam Cleaner easy, were the instructions helpful?

Yes, found putting the steam cleaner together easy, all the bits just clicked into place
The instructions were easy enough to follow but having the pictures next to them too would have made it even more idiot(me!)-proof

  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?

Very powerful, looks study and well designed, lots of useful bits

  • Where have you used the Steam Cleaner?

On tiles, cooker top, mirror, walls, window and cupboard doors.

  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using a Steam Cleaner?

Where the oven top is set into the counter top, grime tends to collect and its too small/awkward to get a sponge in - blasted it with the Steam Cleaner and it all came out! Quick wipe with a sponge and it looks as good as new!

  • Did you you use this for more functions than you originally planned?

Not yet, will have a more in-depth go over throughout the next week
