Kärcher SC2.500C review thread. Non-testers: Tell Kärcher about the cleaning tasks you avoid for a chance to win a SC2.500C Steam Cleaner! NOW CLOSED

This thread is for the 15 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC2.500C Steam Cleaner.

Kärcher say "The Kärcher SC2.500C Steam Cleaner makes light work of grease, dirt, stains and even limescale, delivering deep cleaning results with no chemicals or scrubbing. It kills 99.9% of bacteria with just the power of steam, and can be used on most surfaces around the home"

Non-Testers: What cleaning tasks do you have trouble with? Maybe you avoid cleaning the oven or dread scrubbing the bathroom? Are there any tasks that you think a steam cleaner could help with? Whatever your cleaning woes, Kärcher would love to hear about them.

Everyone who leaves their response on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win their own Kärcher SC2.500C!

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and in a week we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Did you find setting up the Steam Cleaner easy, were the instructions helpful?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
  • Where have you used the Steam Cleaner?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using a Steam Cleaner?
  • Did you you use this for more functions than you originally planned?

Thanks and good luck!

Non tester- definitely the back of the oven. It is cleaned occasionally never but there is some burnt on greasy sludge that just stubbornly refuses to disappear. The worst job however, is the toilet. I have 3 males in my house and they all pee like spaniels vom

All of it! Particularly the bathroom shower screen, it just ends up more smeary. Can the steam cleaner help with that?

Cleaning jobs I hate:

Extractor fan
Toilets
Tops of kitchen cupboards
Surrounding edges of hob, sink & draining board

Im a non tester - but I hate cleaning the floors I think its because I am always finding sticky food stuck to it and it becomes such a big job to get it clean!

I hate cleaning the oven of doom! When ever I do clean it, it gets dirty again so quickly, I wonder why I bothered in the first place Grin

Curtains! The thought of take them down, removing the hooks and taking out those pleats fills me with dread. I pretend it's less than a year since I last did them when in reality it's been over 3 years since they went up.

I avoid cleaning the oven... in fact I'm banned from it. I became a classic nester when I was pregnant with my twins Amber and Ethan. Part of that nesting lead me to scrub the kitchen top to bottom. This nearly ended in disaster when (exhausted and heavily pregnant) I sprayed oven cleaner with the nozzle pointed the wrong way. Luckily we rinsed my eyes quickly and no damage was done. I'm chronically house proud but it's the one job my partner has banned me from doing and now I have to wait until he had time. The Karcher steam cleaner would allow me to take back responsibility and do it myself again

After a few uses, has your Steam Cleaner changed your cleaning regime at all? If so, how?
I've been able to tackle the grease and grime in the kitchen so much easier and bathrooms, windows and hard floors are so much cleaner now. The curtains and furniture can be cleaned quickly and effortlessly, meaning more time to MN..
Are there any applications that you've used where you've been impressed with the results? For example, was the steam cleaner particular useful for cleaning baked on grease, or whole bathrooms?
It cleaned my textured vinyl flooring amazingly well using the smaller attachments and a good deal of time. It also cleaned the grouting in the tiles in the porch- I didn't realise it was white grout. It also cleaned my kitchen cupboard doors of all the grime that's collected on there due to a lack of extractor.
If it came up in conversation, would you recommend or lend the Kärcher steam cleaner to a friend or family member or not?

I have recommended it to various relatives and would lend it to them but it is very expensive.

I did find I ended up with a backache after using the floor attachment as I'm tall and it wasn't long enough. The cord should have a better stow than what it has and it needs to be longer. I had to use an extension lead to get it to reach a decent distance.

Definitely inside the oven and the grout on the bathroom tiles.

Did you find setting up the Steam Cleaner easy, were the instructions helpful?

Yes I found it quite easy and I normally delegate these things to somebody else so it must be easy for me to do it.

What were your impressions from the first few uses?

That I will have a cleaner oven and the bathroom will be a much easier job. We have a lot of birds in our garden hence the furniture can get pretty mucky. Using the steam cleaner made light work of getting it all off the garden fence, the chairs, bird bath and even the brick wall.

Where have you used the Steam Cleaner?

The oven - door and around the hob.
The tiles of the bathroom, the grouting and the floor.
My kitchen floor is stone and it handled that well bringing up a good patina.
The garden (as already mentioned)
Shower screening
Car upholstery

What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using a Steam Cleaner?

The oven and bathroom- both hated jobs because they are either fiddly, used to need horrid chemicals in confined spaces and were hard to do.

Did you you use this for more functions than you originally planned?

Yes the garden use was a revelation and the car upholstery

The tiles in shower and shower enclosure. We have metro tiles so lots of grouting to clean

Also awkward bits in window frames that seem to collect grime!

Far too many to list!
Worst jobs off the top of my head are:
Cleaning the oven obviously
Skirting boards
Wiping down the doors
Cleaning the tiles in bathroom
Inside the windows!
