Kärcher SC2.500C review thread. Non-testers: Tell Kärcher about the cleaning tasks you avoid for a chance to win a SC2.500C Steam Cleaner! NOW CLOSED

This thread is for the 15 Mumsnetters who are currently testing out the Kärcher SC2.500C Steam Cleaner.

Kärcher say "The Kärcher SC2.500C Steam Cleaner makes light work of grease, dirt, stains and even limescale, delivering deep cleaning results with no chemicals or scrubbing. It kills 99.9% of bacteria with just the power of steam, and can be used on most surfaces around the home"

Non-Testers: What cleaning tasks do you have trouble with? Maybe you avoid cleaning the oven or dread scrubbing the bathroom? Are there any tasks that you think a steam cleaner could help with? Whatever your cleaning woes, Kärcher would love to hear about them.

Everyone who leaves their response on this thread will be entered into a prize draw where one lucky MNer will win their own Kärcher SC2.500C!

Testers: We'll be asking you to add feedback twice - we'd like your first impressions now and in a week we will add some more questions.

So, for your first impressions, Kärcher would love to know:

  • Did you find setting up the Steam Cleaner easy, were the instructions helpful?
  • What were your impressions from the first few uses?
  • Where have you used the Steam Cleaner?
  • What cleaning chore have you been most pleased with the results from using a Steam Cleaner?
  • Did you you use this for more functions than you originally planned?

Thanks and good luck!

Tester:
Am also really looking forward to seeing how it copes with this vile dirty grout in the kitchen floor - it is not meant to be black lol before pic uploaded, will post an after pic later on.

I always leave cleaning the oven until Dh complains and does it himself. It can't be seen unless it's opened so always is last on the list.

Non-tester: I hate cleaning the oven. Last time I did it the oven blew its element and we were without an oven for a week. I was assured by the oven man that my cleaning had nothing to do with it. I am not so sure...

I also dislike cleaning the bathroom floor as we have horrible black tiles that never ever look clean.

Is it sad that i keep running to the door when a car goes past?

The job I avoid most is scrubbing the shower grout. I hate how I have to use really strong bleach and mega scrubbing to get it white and within a couple of weeks it needs done again. Even the famous HD spray for grout (which works but is horrible stuff, very strong and causes my skin to erupt if I get splashed) needs redone too often. My dsis uses her steam cleaner nozzle and says it is much easier with no nasty chemical problems.

Despite my 6-8hr a day cleaning habit I've avoided the outhouse, it's a bit of a mess and the grout is vile! I'm using this as an excuse to get it up to scratch and organised.

Tester. I'll be starting with the floor in the downstairs toilet... It was meant to be a brown tile vinyl but DH told the fitters the wrong thing and it ended up with white vinyl instead! It's not so white anymore...

I figure if the steam cleaner can get that one sorted, then things like the hob, the oven and the inside of the microwave (where I'm cultivating a butter explosion incident in preparation) should be a doddle!

The inside of the washing machine drawer (after removing the drawer itself and bunging that in the dishwasher) is also on my list to tackle. It's full of gunge that stubbornly refuses to shift.

My house sounds like a biohazard delightful, doesn't it? Wink It will be all shiny and lovely, soon!

One item that is probably unique to me is that we're picking up the birthing pool a week on Monday. It's a solid frame one with two heavy duty heat insulating liners, so I presume I could use the steam cleaner to clean/sterilise it between test runs and (hopefully) actual use?

I'm a tester and I'm so excited, can't wait to receive my steam cleaner.

Like others I really need to clean my oven (coincidence that word rhymes with sloven?!). It's manky! The grill bit never gets used because when I turn it on it just smokes everywhere (has ever since we moved in 18 months ago). I'm looking forward to grilled goats cheese salad again!!

I've got 2 cats who prefer to drag their food from their feeding bowls and eat from the floor (perhaps they're pretending they caught it?!) which leaves dried on cat ming all over the kitchen floor, just in birds eye view of my 1 year old. The cat flap is similarly disgusting so I'm looking forward to blasting that.

I also have a grout issue and the outside windowsills are pretty grim. Basically my new karcher and I are going to be BFFs Grin

There's laminate in my son's room that desperately needs a good clean- how do boys make things so grubby?

Cleaning the shower grout and vinyl flooring in both kitchen and bathroom.

I'd give it a quick try over my leather sofa although I don't know if I'm supposed to. I'm going to hopefully remove every trace of dirt, grime and dust

Omg! Just went into the outhouse and gave the grout a scrub (in a corner don't want to overdo it before the steamcleaner!) it actually is black grout but it's got weird white stains on, there's also a bit of mould developed on the wall where Dh dumped his toolbox, that'll be gone.
The whole thing is getting organised and clean as soon as possible!
It's only used for washing and storage.

The inside of the oven is the main task I avoid as I haven't found a cleaner which doesn't make me constantly cough from the strong fumes. I'll be checking the thread feedback to see if testers are pleased with the results from their steam cleaners.

Wonder if it will come today, was hoping to do some steaming over the weekend!!

I'm hoping it comes today - I don't want to leave the house in case I miss it!

I've had Ocado and Amazon deliveries so far today, both times I've greeted the delivery driver with a disappointed face.

I'm guessing if it doesn't come today it won't come until after the bank holiday weekend?

I was hoping it'd be first thing this morning, it's Dh day off, I can't play with it till he's here because he's going to film it.

No sign of it here yet - has anyone received it?

I am tidying up for my weekend visitors, but it looks like I'll still have a filthy oven. Easter Sad

Not a tester :(

I think our oven is probably the worst job. DH is an enthusiastic cook. But he never clears up afterwards. And he overfills pots. And he puts some things in the oven with no tray. Its awful. But its mainly meaty so I really don't fancy tackling it (veggie here).

My worst job is the grouting behind the toilet. It seems a catchment area for mould. Bleach and sore knees put off this job until I can no longer stand it!

Tester - nothing has arrived yet! I am looking forward to giving my windows a good clean, we get a bit of condensation and I'm always wiping up window gubbins. Also looking forward to getting that bathroom clean - my sons are such messy clarts! DP is looking forward to blitzing the kitchen - cooker, fridge, tiles and floor.

Mine hasn't arrived yet.
Somebody up thread mentioned about car seats. I'm going to have a go at mine as they may have biscuit crumbs in the fabric.

So excited to be testing this. I've been hankering after a steam cleaner for ages. I was really looking forward to cleaning the bathroom tiles. There's still grout smears on them from when they were put in several months ago, but I haven't had a chance to dedicate a big chunk of time to cleaning them all up. (new baby has been my excuse for the last 7 months!) After reading this thread I'm now itching to have a go at the oven, and the cupboard tops.

I also have half the wall paper in the hallway still to strip, so I'll try attacking that too and see how it does.

Non-tester. I hate hate cleaning the oven. I will be checking back here though as we have tons of tiled floor in this house and I am crap at cleaning it. I am so tempted by a steam cleaner but don't want to buy one and be disappointed. They are not cheap!

I'm looking forward to reading all the reviews, as I am wondering about buying a steam cleaner. Like many people, my first point of call would be the oven - and the grot that seems to sneak into where the hob joins the counter top. Also the hinges at the back of the loo Envy
