How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?
I thought it was quite easy to use. I just followed the instructions

~ How often and when did you use the ointment?
I've used it on several days. to be honest I didn't use it at every nappy change. DS is a wriggle boy and nappy changes are tricky at the vest of times. He also has to have two diffrent creams applied to his body at every change.

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?

Despite not using it at every change. I think on the days I have used it his bum skin has been better. He is quite prone to nappy rash so I think applying it at least once a day has helped. Just don't think I could apply every change.

~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?

Sudecrem - I quite like this but it is quite thick and a bit stinky. Bepanthen - this is what i use on piercings so I find it weird to put on DS.
Lanolin, paw paw ointment. - these were much heavier then metanium

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?
Metal tubes are a bit of a nightmare. they split. DS chews them

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?
I think I'd mention it along with other things. Like changing more frequently, trying cloth nappies, using different liners, washing with just water.

~ How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Fairly easy to use although given it is in a metal tube will likely split at some stage. Remided me a bit of sudocrem although not quite so thick, quite easy to rub in.

~ How often and when did you use the ointment? Tried to remember to use it at every nappy change.

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not? No nappy rash episodes over the last week or so. He often gets it after being at nursery as they tend not to be as quick as me in changing him. I would say his skin feels the same as normal.

~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this? I've used bepanthen in the past. Thinner and not as greasy as bepanthen, although I did get a fright the first time I changed his nappy as his dirty nappy had a white consistency and it took me a few seconds to make the connection. Blush

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way? Packaging was OK. Not massively interesting to look at. HATE metal tubes as they always split down the side at some stage and start oozing cream from other parts of the tube.

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?
Yes I probably would, although unless your child was very prone to nappy rash I'm not sure that you would necessarily pay money for an everyday nappy ointment.

FannyFifer · 12/05/2012 09:35

~ How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?
The ointment was easy to use, nice and light, I didnt rub it in totally, left a white layer.
The tube wasn't so easy to handle mid nappy change when you sometimes only have one hand free, a tub or a tube with a flip lid would be better.

~ How often and when did you use the ointment?
I have used it most nappy changes for a week.

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?
I didn't notice any real difference to be honest, my daughter is prone to mild nappy rash so we still had occasions when she was quite sore and red.

~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?
I use sudocrem as and when required, don't generally use a daily barrier cream though used Vaseline when my babies were newborn.
I still had to use sudocrem the odd time due to redness.

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?
The packaging is ok to look at but the tube is not most practical when in use due to the screw lid, think I have lost the lid now anyway.

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?
Probably not as didn't really see the point, might be useful with a new baby to protect their skin from the constant pooing :)

CaveyLovesWales · 12/05/2012 10:02

~ How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?
I am very impressed with the texture. Much easier to apply than some other ointments and anything that makes for a speedy change is a bonus for me (DD2 especially is an impatient wriggler)

~ How often and when did you use the ointment?
At every change

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?
So far very good - have yet to do a long car journey where there is always a risk of stealth poo, but it works well overnight.

~ Which, i+f any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?
Sudocrem - much prefer the texture of the Metanium, however I like the Sudocrem packaging better.

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?
Well advantages and disadvantages - tubes tend to take up less space in the changing bag than tubs. I found the lid to be very small and fiddly and I don't have any dexterity problems. I need to keep one hand on the child generally so a tube really is a pain because you need both hands to open it and squeeze out the cream. I would prefer a pot with a screw lid.

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?
Yes I would.

shrinkingnora · 12/05/2012 10:25

~ How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?

Easy to use, very easy to rub in and easy to work out how much to use.

~ How often and when did you use the ointment?
After every change for a few days

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?
It seemed effective as the slight redness he was getting stopped and his skin felt lovely.

~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?
Sudocrem when I remembered but was getting to the bottom of a large tub and it was getting messy to get out. Much more easily absorbed.

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?
Tube was very small if it's intended for every change although very little cream was needed. Prefer a tube to a tub as when you get to the end oif a tub it's a hassle.

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?
I already have beacuse it absorbs really well.

bloggingmamatotwo · 12/05/2012 17:54

~ How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?
I found the ointment to use, it rubbed in ok, (as expected for a barrier cream) the amount was easy to work out.
~ How often and when did you use the ointment?
At every nappy change

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?
The ointment did seem good at preventing nappy rash, his skin felt slightly softer from using it but not massively so, however the redness of being in a nappy a long time from a car journey or overnight was gone with the cream.
~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?
Sudocrem, I like the Sudocrem packaging and feel sudocrem you can be more liberal with the amount, I like the thickness of sudocrem and felt the metanium was an in-between product (which is not ness. A bad thing but felt it was half way between a body cream and a barrier cream.

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?
I found the lid to be very small, annoying and a potential chock hazard for the baby....either bigger tube with big choke prrof lid or ideally a tub with a screw lid. The packaging was a bit meak and dull.....

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?
Yes I would, but would hope the packaging/branding may improve to do so with confidence the name is a bit of a handful and usually gets the response of Met what?

But thanks for the opportunity.... :)

How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?
Very easy and doesn't stain your hands like the yellow metanium cream.

~ How often and when did you use the ointment?
Most nappy changes for a week, unless the yellow metanium was required.

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?
Fairly effective, DD2 is teething so has erratic nappy rash. I haven't noticed the skin feeling softer.

~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?
I always use sudcrem unless there is nappy rash in which case I use the yellow metanium cream. The metanium daily cream is nicer to use that sudocrem but it is more expensive so for that reason I would probably stick with sudocrem.

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?
The packaging is fine. It's nappy cream so doesn't need to be fancy! I'm pleased that the screw cap fits better than on the yellow metanium where it is always a pain in the bum to get back on properly!

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?
If it came up probably but with the caveat that only buy it when it's on offer as it's over-priced.

Jo178 · 13/05/2012 12:30

~ How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?

The cream was very easy to apply and rub in. It went on smoothly and evenly. I followed the guidance on the packaging and used a pea sized amount which was more than ample.

~ How often and when did you use the ointment?

We used the cream every evening after bathtime when baby was going down for the night.

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?

My baby has only ever had nappy rash on two occasions so it's difficult to assess how effective it was. Though on more than one occasion while using the cream we found that she had done a poo in the morning but had no redness or rash and it did seem to form a nice thin protective layer. I can't say that I noticed a difference in softness of skin after using the cream. She is only six months old so still has that super soft new baby skin anyway.

~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?

We were using sudocrem before this, though have tried a sample of bepanthen too. I liked the metanium better as it was easier to apply. I also preferred the no smell of this compared to the rather harsh perfume of sudocrem. I would say in terms of performance, they are probably on a par.

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?

I much preferred the packaging to Sudocrem which because of the colours and pot looks almost industrial. The metanium looked gentler because of its more muted and pastel colours. Also, because it's in a tube rather than a pot, it's easier to take out and about and is able to slide into a small pocket in the nappy bag. However because the tube is metal, I would worry about it being punctured and oozing out everywhere.

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?

Yes, I'd definitely recommend Metanium to other parents if it was comparable in price because of the ease of application and the fact that it's easier to carry around than a pot. And, although the tube contains a smaller amount of product I would guess that you probably need to use less and wastage is reduced because it goes on easily and isn't as sticky on fingers.

gemma4d · 13/05/2012 21:04

~ How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?

First time I used WAY too much, then far too little, but I think I more or less have it now. It is indeed a pea size amount. I think it would be easy to use too much but think its the right amount, but it wouldn't let the skin breathe and it would cause nappy rash (does that make sense?). It rubs on nicely to leave a nice light coating (am I supposed to rub it in ? I've been rubbing it on .)

~ How often and when did you use the ointment?

At suspect nappy changes (mild irritation or an un-noticed poop!)

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?

Didn't notice any softer but I do think there is less minor irritation, and haven't had any nappy rash (although I'm afraid I haven't been using it long enough for this to be conclusive!)

~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?

Most recently I have been using Eucerin Aquaphor Baby. I don't use it every change, just when there are the first hints of nappy rash/ irritation, or when I discover a previously unknown bowel movement (when you say "Damn, how long have you been in that then?!"). Eucerin is reasonably effective but yucky, its a sticky gel that leaves you desperate to wash your hands after. It does go on easily though, and is colourless. Metanium everyday is not quite as easy to apply, but it still goes on well enough so that's not a complaint. Its a nicer feel, and by the time I wash my hands after its mostly absorbed into my skin.

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?

The tube differentiates from Metanium but co-ordinates on the shelf, which is nice . The box is a little dull.

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?

A mild recommendation. I would probably say "its quite nice, and seems to work". To contrast, if I was talking about Metanium I would say "its fantastic, the best stuff I've used".

~ Can anyone tell me whether its suitable for use with cloth nappies? It makes no mention on the box, but I have previously read to avoid all white nappy creams (especially zinc oxide - I'm not sure about titanium dioxide) because it can make the nappy repel, or decrease absorbancy.

nomoreminibreaks · 13/05/2012 21:50

~ How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?

It was easy to use and rub in - the powdery texture was a surprise but it was nice that it wasn't greasy. I wasn't sure how much to use so put quite a bit on an it looked like DS was doing white poos!

~ How often and when did you use the ointment?

Used it at most nappy changes.

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?

Quite effective I think, DS is prone to a red bottom and it seemed to clear up if I used it at every change. Skin was softer.

~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?

We used bepanthen and sudocrem. I prefer metanium as it's less greasy.

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?

The only thing I really didn't like was the packaging - firstly it was difficult to unscrew the cap with one hand while trying to hold down a baby who wants to crawl off the changing table with the other. As well as that, when you squeeze the foil tube, you don't have to squeeze it much for it to not stop coming out, so when you come back to put the lid on, another inch of cream has come out on the table... Ideally for me it would be in a pump bottle or a flip top tube (not foil).

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?

Yes, because I feel that it would be more comfortable for a child as it would feel dry rather than greasy. Not if it was very expensive though.

LakeFlyPie · 13/05/2012 22:11

~ How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?
Easy to use though a flip top lid to tube would make it easier still. Didn't rub in too much and easy to work out how much.

~ How often and when did you use the ointment?
Once or twice a day, always for night time nappy and during day if contents of nappy looked like it may cause some skin irritation.

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?
Think it's good, skin felt soft (his skin usually is though) and think it did offer protection from potentially irritating nappy contents.

~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?
Usually use Metanium cream if DS's skin looks sore or irritated or when he's teething as sometimes more prone to nappy rash at this time.

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?
Packaging OK, flip top lid would make application easier.

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?
Yes, wish I'd discovered Metanium products when DS1 was in nappies as he suffered terribly with nappy rash and the myriad of creams / lotions I tried failed to soothe / protect him. I used Metanium for the last couple of months he was in nappies and it was fantastic. If the everyday cream had been available a few years ago think I would have used it everyday on him. DS2 is much less prone to problems so only use it when I feel an extra barrier is needed, e.g. overnight.

Modernlifeishubris · 13/05/2012 22:31

~ How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?

I found the ointment very easy to rub in and I'm afraid I didn't read how much I was supposed to apply, just used common sense!

~ How often and when did you use the ointment?

My DS loved the ointment and would call 'Ceem' if I forgot so I've used it on nearly every nappy change.

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?

DS does not suffer from nappy rash much, would usually use the yellow Metanium if he had a flare up so cannot comment on whether it did any preventing. His skin was softer and had the unexpected benefit of making the poo easier to wipe off after a bout of runny nappies (TMI)

~ Which, if any, barrier product did you did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?

Sorry, deleted part of that question! I haven't used any other daily ointments.

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?

I would have thought a yellow theme would have linked your products better, packaging and colours were very meh, my eye would totally miss this on a shelf, particularly when Bepanthen comes in such a large tube, yours blends in too much.

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?

I have recommended Metanium in the past as a miracle worker, I don't believe this product will get the same endorsement. It seems to be an optional extra, rather than an essential in a nappy bag. But a very nice extra, DS certainly appreciated it!

bakingqueen · 13/05/2012 23:02
  • Found it easy to use was easier to dispense from the tube rather than a tub as other brands. I just guessed how much to use once all areas covered guessed that was enough

-Ive used it two to three times a day every day

-Think it has helped his bottom he has had no red areas since using which is a big improvement

-Usually uise sudacrem found the metanium helped prevent redness much better

-Pacckaging was a bit boring but guess nappy cream can only be so interesting!!! Preferred the tube to tub as other products use also stops small inquisitive hands getting involved

  • I think it is a very good product have already recommended it to afriend
SleepyFergus · 14/05/2012 12:48

Thanks for the opportunity for testing. I used it on my DD who is 2.5 and still prone to a bout of nasty redness in the nappy. I am due a baby next month, so the rest of the tube will be used on him/her.

How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?
I found it really nice to use, soaked in reasonably easily and I just used what seemed right!

~ How often and when did you use the ointment?
At each nappy change for 3 days

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?
Bizarrely, I think my DDs skin appeared smoother and softer! It certainly seemed to keep any nasties at bay, no redness or irritation, but then she didn't have any mad pooey nappies during the test time.

~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?
I don't use an barrier product everyday. I used Bepathen if she looks a bit red, or sometimes she will ask for cream, so I can be guided by her. If I knew she was teething, I would have applied Bepathen more regularley to keep on top and prevent any sore nappies.

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?
Not setting the world on fire, but it's nappy cream so not expecting it to be exciting. I'm afraid I detest metal tubes as they can split, and when you squeeze it, more comes out than you want, so the lid ends up messy. I would prefer as others have suggested a flip top lid, or a pump. Plus, it's a small tube if you are expecting people to use this daily or several times a day. Perhaps this was just for the test, but a bigger bottle or dispenser would make more sense (like the E45 pump dispenser)

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?
Yes, in that it seems to be a nice, gentle cream. But for hardcore nappy rash, I would use my usual Bepathen which seems to work for me.

SkinnyMalinkiLongLegs · 14/05/2012 18:41

I found the cream easy to use. It was a nice texture and very smooth. I used used enough to thinly coat the bottom.

I used the cream on morning, lunch and bedtime nappies. I didn't use it on in between changes. Over a seven day period.

DDs bottom was soft and she didn't develop any nappy rash at all during the trial which is unusual for her.

My dd is extremely prone to nappy rash. I use the yellow Metanium most days which is fantastic.

I think the packaging was very dull. However, that wouldn't stop me buying the product. I would prefer the product to be sold in a tub.

I think I would recommend Metanium Everyday. Since the yellow Metanium was recommended to me by a hospital consultant I have raved about that. DD didn't develop any rash during the trial so I was impressed.

SoTiredoftheWheelsontheBus · 16/05/2012 15:23

I've been using this on ds2 (5.5 months) at every nappy change for a couple of weeks now, and he has had no redness on his bum at all. Previously he didn't get much soreness (I'd notice some redness at a change, put some cream on for a couple of changes until it disappeared) but there has been absolutely nothing.

I've used about a third of the pack so far.
After the sample runs out, I'll work my way through the other creams, then get some more metanium (love that autocorrect wanted me to call it geranium Smile

HavingAnOffDAy · 17/05/2012 10:58

~ How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?

As easy to use as any barrier cream - I didn't find it that easy to rub in but just used enough to thinly coat his bum.

~ How often and when did you use the ointment?
Most nappy changes

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?
DS has pretty good skin normally & I don't use an everyday product as a rule, but when he's teething he gets very sore - often only prescribed products will shift his rash.

I used this at most nappy changes whilst he was teething (canines so not pleasant) and his bum stayed rash free for the most part - I only used Metanium nappy rash cream once during the whole episode.

~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?
Occasionally used sudocrem, Metanium seemed more effecttive at preventing nappy rash

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?
I like the tube as I have long nails so hate sticking my finger in pots of Sudocrem! A plastic tube may be better though as I find the metal ones split when I carry them around in the changing bag for too long.

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?
Yes, it really worked for us - Thanks Metanium!

kitcatcandy · 17/05/2012 11:13

~ How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?

Texture was really nice, very easy to rub in and didn't leave my hands greasy. Just used a small blob, and that seemed enough.

~ How often and when did you use the ointment?

Every day for two weeks for his bedtime nappy, as that is the nappy that is on the longest and can lead to redness in the morning.

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?

I think it certainly cut down the red patches in the morning and his skin felt lovely and soft too. No nappy rash at all while using this cream.

~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?

Sudocrem, but I think this is much nicer and rubs in better. It's not as oily.

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?

Packaging boring, don't like metal tubes, as they split and leak. Needs a revamp!

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?

Yes I would, it's a lovely texture and very easy to use. It's good to use an everyday product that doesn't seems as heavy handed as some of the competitors.

LovePotatoes · 18/05/2012 11:30

I found the ointment easy to use but would prefer it in a tub container so would last longer.
I used it every day for five days after every nappy change.
It was very effective at preventing nappy rash but difficult to wipe off the skin at the next change of nappy. Skin was softer afterwards.
The packaging does not stand out. I think I would probably not notice it unless it was a really good price. Maybe. The packaging needs to be brighter and more bold.
It is possibly on par with sudocrem for us and it is better than zinc creams.
I would recommend it.

mcfee · 18/05/2012 11:49

~ How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not? - Easy to rub in but probably used more than necessary.

~ How often and when did you use the ointment? Every nappy change.

~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not? Calmed redness & worked well but not any softer than other products

~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this? Sudocreme. Think I prefer the thickness of suscreme

~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way? Packaging fine although small tube (this may have been trial size)

~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not? Yes but only if other products not working. I suspect it would be expensive & would be better to use for extreme symptoms.

I have been using the cream for 5 days but going to stop as my little boy has just developed chicken pox and has lots of spots in the nappy area which i don't want to aggrevate.
