~ How easy or difficult did you find the ointment to use? Was it easy to rub in or not? Was it easy to work out how much you should use or not?
It seemed to rub in adequately. Though I suppose the idea is to not rub it in completely but leave some as a barrier on the skin? It wasn't difficult to judge how much to use, as I would just apply enough to cover the important areas, the same with any other cream! Though the tube was smaller than the usual size tubs you get barrier cream in, sudocrem etc, so I did wonder if you were supposed to use it more sparingly, like metanium treatment oitnment.
~ How often and when did you use the ointment?
Every nappy change. Though occasionally I have forgot to put it in the nappy bag when my daughter has gone to the childminder!
~ How effective (or not) do you think the ointment was at preventing nappy rash? Did your DC's skin feel any softer after using the ointment or not?
When I first started using this my daughter did have a bit of a rash (didn't really get on with sudocrem that we were using previously). So I used this is conjunction with metanium treatment ointment (we use this whenever she has a rash and it is brilliant), and as soon as the rash went (very quickly) we used the barrier ointment on its own. Her rash has not come back since. I have also noticed that the cream is very moisturising and her skin is soft and in lovely condition.
~ Which, if any, barrier product did you use before? How did Metanium Everyday ointment compare to this?
We originally used Neal's Yard Baby Barrier which is amazing but very expensive (gift from mother-in-law!). We couldn't really afford to keep using this so we switched to sudocrem, but this gave her a rash. I think because both of the superior products are very mildly fragranced, or fragrance free, this made a difference compared to sudocrem which has a very strong fragrance. I would also point out that we have only used two tubs of the Neal's Yard stuff since our daughter's birth, we had only just run out and she is now 16 months! This is because it comes in such a large tub. Therefore on balance it is not that expensive. The metanium barrier ointment seems equally as good so far, and I'm not sure how much it will cost, but if I find that the tube runs out quickly I might be persuaded to go back to the Neal's Yard stuff, so may be worth larger tubs so that it is definitely good value?
I also like that the barrier ointment is colourless and doesn't stain hands/clothes like metanium treatment ointment!
~ What did you think about the packaging? Do you think it could be improved in any way?
I thought it was fine, no particular criticism. I think the tube is quite small, so this may put people off when compared to the other barrier creams on the shelf that tend to come in larger tubs. I'm also not sure that having it in a metal tube is practical - a fiddly screw top lid that could be a choking hazard. The tube of metanium treatment cream we have has split on the side so it goes everywhere every time you use it, so I'm guessing this may happen with the tube of barrier ointment in time.
~ If it came up in conversation, would you recommend Metanium Everyday to other parents? If so why, if not why not?
Yes definitely! I already recommend metanium treatment ointment at every opportunity and even put some in a hamper for my friend who recently had a baby as I swear by it. So far I am equally as delighted with the barrier cream so would happily recommend it, especially if it is as reasonably priced. Don't know if it helps the people at Metanium, but I found out about your treatment ointment after I read about it in Jo Frost's "Confident Baby Care"
. She seems to be a fan of your other products, so might be worth sending some to her to see if she likes it and maybe get some celebrity endorsement!
