Help me - I’m trapped in a Seasalt jumpsuit

It’s the Treen Cove one, I’ve lusted after it since Siobhan wore it on Pottery Showdown. It went on with no issues, looks lovely, fits well and is flattering but…..

I’m stuck in the bloody thing. It’s been an hour and I can’t even free an arm despite unbuttoning it down as far as it will go.

Has anyone got this jumpsuit? Can you give me any tips on how to get out of it? I reckon I have about 2 hours before I need the loo.

Perhaps I should have gone for a size bigger for wiggle room knowing what I know now. I’m just going to post myself down to Seasalt HQ and let them deal with it.

I got trapped in an M&S sports bra once...

Yes me too a few weeks ago...got a front doing up one as I have a frozen shoulder and it was meant to be the easy option. Took a coat hanger and 40 minutes of wriggling

PickAChew · 11/07/2021 21:33

@MauveMavis

Just checking you undid all the buttons on the front?

I have two of the jersey sea salt ones - super comfy and always get positive comments even though I'm the size of a small whale.

Jersey and woven linen are very different beasts!
SigrunGard · 11/07/2021 21:41

@museumum- I have a Next one that zips down only to the waist. Similar contortions needed to get it on or off.

No wonder it was on EBay as “only worn once”….

Northernlurker · 11/07/2021 22:08

The jersey ones are pretty good. No contortion needed. I was thinking of wearing mine tomorrow but it's day three of my period in my mid forties. Can I be bothered? Nope Grin

Sunnycats · 11/07/2021 22:18

This thread has made me laugh OP! I am always contorting into all kinds of crazy positions to get out of junpsuits!

FitYeDaeinYeMadRadge · 11/07/2021 23:19

There are so many of us getting stuck. At least I only had the dog to worry about…for those concerned for her, she has fully recovered. The jumpsuit is hanging on the back of the door trying to convince me to keep it. Siobhan, I’m blaming you and will be applying for the next Pottery Showdown.

But this is happening to good people in public. I propose something like a bat signal to flash when someone is in clothing distress. Not a bat logo but a Treen Cove jumpsuit shape. A team of sympathetic, skilled quick unpickers will come to the rescue with a stiff drink and similar tales of woe to lessen the pain.

villainousbroodmare I dare say I would have been spurred on by a price tag like that. Although you scared me a little bit. Imagine ending up in the Darwin Awards over a fancy frock….

MrsBobDylan I’m not going to lie. You and your poor knickers. Priority shout for the bat signal team.

NorthernLurker jersey ones only for me after this. I can’t thank you enough. Inspired technique.

Am relived you got free op.

I think this is a feminist issue - I now want to establish if any man has ever been stuck in a pair of boxers, trousers, t-shirt etc? If not, why not?

I think there is a conspiracy to suppress women via clothes.

I felt very suppressed in that dress, in fact like a pp, I nearly suffocated under the weight of Phase Eight wedding-quality fabric, wrapped around my head like a condom.

Frownette · 12/07/2021 00:39

Your pride is at stake, to be frank. When I've got stuck in something in the past there was not a cat's chance in hell I was calling the fire brigade before I had defeated it, no matter how long it took.

Oh well at least you're out now. Put it on again with trepidation and reinforcements!

SummerWhy · 12/07/2021 01:53

Glad you managed it! I once got stuck in a top I’d ordered online that was clearly several sizes too small. For the life of me I couldn’t get out of it and I was getting so hot and flustered I ended up having to cut it off. However much it cost straight down the drain 😭😭

bendmeoverbackwards · 12/07/2021 06:59

Glad you’re free OP.

I have a memory of being stuck in a yellow anorak aged about 3 when the zip got stuck. I remember standing on a chair whilst various family members tried to free me. I was convinced I’d have to wear it forever with my 3 year old logic 😂

Katiepoes · 12/07/2021 15:16

I had to call hotel reception on my wedding night. My beloved husband of several hours had pretty much passed out on the bed - and my dress had about 53000 TINY fabric buttons down the back. I was mortified, but the lovely reception lady told me it happens more than you'd think. Stupid clothes.

I am recovering from a frozen shoulder. Apparently they are much more common in women (of a certain age) than men. So why are there so few front fastening bras available?

With an immobile shoulder I find myself stuck in all sorts of clothes, most jackets need careful planning in order to escape from them alone.

woodhill · 12/07/2021 16:39

Slightly derailing but do you struggle to fasten your bra at the back anyway. Apparently front fastening stretches the bra but I find it really hard to do up at the back

Chemenger · 12/07/2021 16:58

Normally I don't have any trouble fastening bras at the back. Right now I can't put the bad arm behind my back at all. Or do that shrugging movement that gets a sleeve off your shoulder.

expatinspain · 12/07/2021 17:30

I can't believe people are so calm. I get what I can only describe as claustrophobia when stuck in things and have a panic attack. I tend to buy stretch things or clothes with zips on. Certain dresses and tops, I won't even attempt to try on. Just reading this thread makes me feel panicky 😓

LalalalalalaLand123 · 12/07/2021 17:36

I have claustrophobia, and I have to be very careful what clothes/sizes I try on in case I get stuck! Good luck OP!

LalalalalalaLand123 · 12/07/2021 17:37

I hadn't seen your post when I posted @expatinspain but I totally relate to everything you say!

expatinspain · 12/07/2021 17:40

It's horrible isn't it?! I would literally have to rip/cut it off myself. I had a frozen shoulder a few years back and I had massive problems. I either wore really baggy things or buttoned or zipped things for about a year.

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 12/07/2021 17:57

I've only just seen this thread, I'm very glad that you don't have to spend the rest of your life in a jumpsuit. Grin

I got trapped in an Enell front-fastening sports bra. It needed to go backwards off my shoulder to come off, like taking off a bolero jacket. It was easy enough to shrug on, but there isn't really a reverse shrug. One thing that worked was to thread a ribbon through the right shoulder, let it drape down my back and grab both ends with my left hand and pull while wriggling my right shoulder. But an easier solution was to buy a front fastening sports bra that had adjustable velcro shoulder straps that could completely undo.

AnnieSnap · 12/07/2021 17:59

I have the same jumpsuit and can’t get out of it without assistance either. For those who say that since it buttons down the front to hear the waist, we shouldn’t have a problem, it’s made of quite stiff linen and getting the shoulders and arms out is the problem. I can only put it on if my husband will be around to assist. To be any more adventurous, it would have to be a size too big and worn with a belt!

Cowbells · 12/07/2021 18:05

Thiis thread has put me off jumpsuits forever.

Cacklingwitch · 12/07/2021 18:11

There’s absolutely nothing worse than that pang of fear in a changing room when you can’t get something off!

Sports bras are my nemesis. If DH wasn’t there, several would have been shredded with the scissors

Catsrus · 12/07/2021 18:20

I'm old enough to have worn jumpsuits back in the 70's - the Saturday night fever days.... nothing worse than trying to go to the loo in a club, with less than sanitary floors (minging and wet 🤢) trying to keep the top of the jumpsuit over one arm AND keep the bottom of the legs well clear of the floor AND go the loo after a few 🍷.

Never tempted to get another one!

Justsaynonow · 12/07/2021 18:33

For those struggling with shoulder issues and bras:

  1. turn a back fastening bra back to front so the fastening is in front
  2. fasten the hooks
  3. turn it back around so the fastening is in the back
  4. slip your arms through the straps and slip them over your shoulders.

Always put it on weak side first, and remove the weak side last - that goes for any article of clothing

Mamanyt · 12/07/2021 18:43

LOL, I am SO sorry to laugh, but that's such a "ME" thing to do! AND I get panicky if my clothes are too snug, especially around the shoulders. I once cut myself out of a truly lovely jumpsuit with a pair of sewing shears. Didn't regret it one little bit!
