I bloody love a nice hotel. What is your favourite hotel you’ve stayed in?

Mine would be:
Crowne Plaza Changi (Singapore) and got upgraded to the roof terrace suite. Absolutely loved it.
The Langham Hong Kong and stayed in the junior suite!

Le Quartier Francais, in Franshoek, South Africa.
Beautiful, large comfortable room with stunning views of the mountains from two sides.
Incredible food.
Meisters Hotel Irma in Merano, Italy. Family run. Three pools, spa and treatments, the rooms have lovely views from a wrap around balcony with loungers and again superb food.
Wonderful breakfasts are served on the top floor of the hotel in a huge rooftop conservatory - (think glass house at Kew) with outside tables for mountain views. Afternoon tea and cakes including divine apple strudel with whipped cream ad lib. Welcome cocktail on arrival.
And truly lovely staff.

The Marriott in Bucharest. Over there years ago filming. Beautiful hotel, restaurants, own shopping parade - lived there for a month or two near Christmas so wonderful decorations & tree, full miniature village & train set in the Vienna cafe on the first floor.

Fell in love with Romania, such a loopy, friendly & beautiful country (and I can now boast I’ve been to Transylvania laughs like The Count on Sesame Street).

We loved the Shangri la in KL, in 1988 for the service. And the Hilton in Istanbul, where on production of two UK passports, they found a room for very tired travellers with credit cards who had driven all the way across Turkey that day. It was the only word we could make the taxi driver understand. The breakfast orange juice was nectar.

@Restlessinthenorth yes it was called Pearl Restaurant. It was lovely. I never actually paid to stay there as it was over £400 per night but it was part of the Marriott chain and so I always used Tesco Clubcard points Grin

Adare Manor in Adare, Ireland. Was always lovely but was done up a few years ago and is absolutely stunning now.

The Peninsula in Bangkok is spot on in every way. Would go back in a heartbeat.

It's a few years ago now, but the Bellagio in Las Vegas. Amazing place but it's ruined every holiday since because nowhere else we have been had been as good! The bathroom was literally the size of my lounge at home!

In terms of experience I loved our night at treetops in Kenya. It's the most basic hotel but watching the elephants at the watering hole at night from the balcony was amazing

Our go to for not far from home is the Klosterbraeu in Seefeld Austria. We live in Switzerland so it’s only 3 hours drive and it’s absolute bliss from the moment you abandon the car to the concierge!

The Four Seasons Hualalai on the Big Island of Hawaii. It's spoilt every 5* hotel for me since!

Remembered others:

Ciragan Palace, Istanbul - dreamy, right on the Bosphorus

L'Hotel, Paris - Oscar Wilde died there; louche flock wallpapered rooms

Also (again, on location filming), the Ivy House Hotel near Lowestoft. Small, friendly, family run hotel (stayed in converted stable block). Most of the cast stayed there for a week or so, they even put on a World Cup viewing for some v early match (think it was in Japan that year!) where we watched an England match before work!

Friends rave about the George V in Paris, but I can’t get over €40 for a club sandwich at the bar.

We’ve stayed in lots of amazing places, but they’ve all been places we’ve stumbled across. Usually right on the sea shore with a balcony.

Chedi Club Ubud or a penthouse at the Mandalay Bay (although I’m not a Vegas fan and I was 15 so novelty was a major factor )

Also stayed in the Langham it was lovely, weird glass wall in bathroom though. For work travel, my favourite is the hotel Palomar in Philadelphia. Wine hour every evening is a lovely touch for line travellers.
