I bloody love a nice hotel. What is your favourite hotel you’ve stayed in?

Mine would be:
Crowne Plaza Changi (Singapore) and got upgraded to the roof terrace suite. Absolutely loved it.
The Langham Hong Kong and stayed in the junior suite!

Ooh I'm glad to see an endorsement for the Langham above. Am heading there tomorrow!

ElArco · 06/07/2021 22:09

In fact, forgot to add...along with Lewis Hamilton.

When I say 'along with' I mean in the hotel, not in his room. 😂

The Cipriani in Venice is very nice.

Would love to stay in Claridges.

kitkatsky · 06/07/2021 22:10

@bassackwards I am so jealous! Take a big deep breath in when you walk through the door for me

What a great thread OP!!

Carlisle Bay, Antigua. Absolutely lovely.
Ritz Carlton, New York. Had a room with a telescope to look out at the Statue of Liberty.

A Riu hotel in Bavaro in Dom Rep. we had two optics with full size bottles of rum and whiskey. On our 2nd day the maid asked me if I liked the whiskey and I jokingly said no, I'd rather have vodka and she came back with a bottle of vodka to replace it. The food was also out of this world and it was so clean and beautiful.

I'm not sure mine are in par with some of these!

But - we love the corinthia in Budapest, always upgrade to exec level though
Stella Island in Crete was beautiful and we felt dead posh with a swim up room!

Edgyandstressed · 06/07/2021 22:12

I stopped bitching about the hotel overbooking snafu when the taxi arrived here: Twelve Apostles Hotel, Camps Bay. It smelled so good. Full of honeymooners; business travellers are rare.

Emerson's in Stonetown, Zanzibar.

It's mediocre in many respects, e.g. no facilities [gym, internet, lifts, etc], patchy service, unremarkable food for the price, questionable water pressure, liable to power cuts, etc.

But the view from the roof terrace is is great and both the interior and [most of] the rooms are spectacular.

Corinthia London - I can still smell their room fragrance when I close my eyes! Or Mandarin Oriental Singapore for impeccable service

Chocolatepeanuts · 06/07/2021 22:12

Have stayed in some beautiful places in my time but close to home I just adore a weekend in the Galgorm Resort in Northern Ireland.

No one has said Schloss Elmau!

Delano in Miami Beach

The Standard in NYC

The Charlotte Street Hotel in Soho

zyd32 · 06/07/2021 22:17

Sirili Lodge, Shamwari Game Park in South Africa. Wonderful food on the terrace overlooking the plains watching the wildlife

Four Seasons, Las Vegas. Breakfast by the pool was a little slice of heaven amongst the madness

Hotel des Coeurs, Zermatt for the view of the Matterhorn from their huge hot tub (not for the "textile free" hammam which was a bit much for us socially awkward Brits)

In fact, anywhere except an outer suburb of London right now....

Jaxhog · 06/07/2021 22:17

Kandalama in Sri Lanka. In the middle of nowhere and full of wildlife. The shower cubicles are on the outside, so you can watch elephants and monkeys while showering. There was a live flutist by the infinity pool which had a view over the elephants in the valley below. And the food was amazing. We were there for a wedding and after 5 days had forgotten how to open doors, serve ourselves, etc. Fantastic!

And another vote for Burgh Island

I want to live in a hotel when I'm old. Not a nursing home, a hotel. I shall sit in the spa all day and get wrinkly.

MummyMcMumington · 06/07/2021 22:18

Shamelessly placemarking

DottyDelaney · 06/07/2021 22:18

DH and I have stayed in some fantastic hotels over the years. It depends what you mean by best really.
Hotel 41 in London is a delightful little place that feels more like a cosy lounge and offers unpretentious but impeccable service. The champagne selection is poor now compared to the past offerings, however.

The Corinthia, also in London, is also a joy to stay in if you are in one of the suites, although it has become a favourite of social media types so we've stayed away in recent years.

Castello Aragonese d'Ischia is a favourite in terms of experience. You'll find yourself roughing it in the room as it's very, very basic but the views are incredible and it feels like an exciting little adventure to be without the usual hotel luxuries, in a castle overlooking the causeway. The restaurant also served the best fillet steak DH has ever had, and he's been to some of the finest restaurants in the world due to his work.

It's hard to choose a favourite, we've had some lovely holidays at very different hotels, it depends what you enjoy really.

StCharlotte · 06/07/2021 22:19
@AbsolutelySure I used to walk past that hotel on my way to work every day and look at the really pretty windows in their restaurant, Pearl. Always meant to go, but never did....
Me too. Although I did get to go to the restaurant which was fabulous.

DH discussed this and we both said the Renaissance at Niagara Falls although we've stayed at some lovely hotels in some great locations (safari lodges stand out for location obviously). The Grand Hotel Toplice on Lake Bled in Slovenia was wonderful.

Closer to home I would recommend The Grand in Brighton and the Mermaid in Rye. I also liked the London Bridge Hotel but that was probably because it was a spontaneous stay after we'd missed the penultimate train home one Friday night and couldn't be arsed to wait half an hour for the next one Grin. It is a very nice hotel though!
