I bloody love a nice hotel. What is your favourite hotel you’ve stayed in?

Mine would be:
Crowne Plaza Changi (Singapore) and got upgraded to the roof terrace suite. Absolutely loved it.
The Langham Hong Kong and stayed in the junior suite!

I'm so immersed in being a downtrodden mum that I now wouldn't know how to even behave in a fine establishment

igelkott2021 · 09/07/2021 09:48

Humpf not sure I want to disclose my favourite hotel, I might never be able to get a reservation there again! I'll keep my absolute favourite to myself!

But the Old Government House on Guernsey is nice.

Also the Barnsley House hotel in Gloucestershire.

igelkott2021 · 09/07/2021 09:49

I also really liked the Radisson on the Royal Mile in Edinburgh. I think it had the best breakfast buffet I've ever seen (and better than its counterpart in Dublin, where I've also stayed).

igelkott2021 · 09/07/2021 09:55

@OoglyMoogly

Mercure Hotel Panorama Freiburg I've stayed there about 8 times now, (pre-covid) nothing is too much trouble.
I stayed in one in Berlin. It was a bit basic in some ways but the staff were lovely and we got a suite for a ridiculously low price. And the location was great, near Checkpoint Charlie and a great bakery where we went for breakfast each morning.

I'll keep the Westin Grand in mind though as I would like to go to Berlin for my 50th birthday next year.

ferneytorro · 09/07/2021 11:22

Rudding park Harrogate
Mandarin oriental kl (think we got upgraded)
Rasa sayang Penang

I want to go to Asia and have dim sum again for breakfast!!

I've came back to this thread as been to a few very nice places ..
Trump Hotel Boston - don't care what anyone thinks of the man, that hotel was very swish and the city views incredible.
15 in Boston.
Nam Hai, pre Four Seasons.
Four Seasons Istanbul, the one beside the Bosphorus, has an Agatha Christie vibe, the Turkish afternoon tea was very oldly worldly.
Raffles Istanbul - very glitzy.
Ritz Carlton Tokyo, club level - had food poisoning from Vietnam so sat on the funky Japanese loo with sound effects and massage function for majority of stay sadly.
Kempinski, Moscow - hate Moscow
Astoria, St Petersburg, it was white night season, so sat in restaurant at midnight and it was still bright outside!
Hotel De Russie, Rome - breakfast in the secret garden is wonderful
Hotel Savoy, Florence - cycled up to Michealangelos square to see sunrise
Forte Village - nice with kids but full of snobby English families
Forte resort Verdura - loved
Sacher Vienna - lovely Sunday Brunch
Ritz Carlton Vienna - alright, find RC a bit chainy/same same.
Hotel de Rome, Berlin - suite was one of the former directors offices and spa was in the huge former underground safe of the Dresdner Bank
Villa Kennedy Frankfurt, lovely courtyard
Fueno hotel in Miami - amazing art deco vibe
Hotel amigo Brussels - I love Brussels and this hotel
New York - stayed in a few nice ones but the rooms are always super tiny !
Las Vegas - ok not Uber posh but I loved the novelty of the Venetian !
Balmoral Edinburgh - got bumped up into a suite overlooking Princess street
Browns London - lovely location and great bar
Four seasons London - alright the newer one is better, near Tower Hill.
And loads more that I've forgotten. To be honest I also love a b&b - just has to be spotless and charming and we've started renting villas and air bnb rather than staying at hotels (pre COVID obvs)

The trump hotel in Vegas was spectacular. I’ve never stayed anywhere that opulent for such a ridiculously cheap price. The room was bigger than my house and everything seemed to be gold plated. The security was amazing, and as it is at the end of the strip and doesn’t have a casino it wasn’t too busy but my goodness the view was amazing. I can’t stand the man but he definitely knows how to run a hotel 😳

Carriemac · 09/07/2021 16:12

I love the faversham arms in Helmsley North Yorkshire for the outdoor pool , and the cliff house in Ireland for the pool
And the view

CynsterBitch · 09/07/2021 21:57

Went we lived in the emirates we were spoilt for choice, Zaya Nurai Island and Desert island Resorts on Sir Bani Yas island were magical get aways.
Completely opposite environment and also magical was the Ice hotel in Kiruna, would love to go there again 😍

hoxtonbabe · 09/07/2021 22:35

I don’t know why I clicked on this thread as now I just want to go away!

In the UK the one if the nicest for views was the Novotel in Canary Wharf, the breakfast was decent too, not like their usual fare.

Novotel in Liverpool was nice

Hotel I think has one of the better lounge is the Montcalm in Moorgate and the Waldorf.. I don’t usually drink but at those two places I got totally sozzled. The Hilton bankside has the best breakfast, and the brunch they did/do was excellent.

Overall best was Hard rock hotel in Dominican Republic... my son actually cried when we had to leave, lol

hoxtonbabe · 09/07/2021 22:38

Actually it wasn’t Novotel Liverpool it was Pullman ( part of the Accor group hence my getting mixed up, lol)!

Hairbrush123 · 09/07/2021 22:50

Gleneagles is nice

Cherrysoup · 09/07/2021 23:03

A hotel in Miami where the cruise ships come in. The bed and bed linen were to die for, I don’t think I’ve ever had such a fabulous comfortable bed since. The views were amazing.

We stayed in an old converted bank in Houston , it was very high end, but we felt really uncomfortable so left after one night and booked into the Candlewood suites instead, a self contained mini apartment, inspired our subsequent purchase of Lazyboys!

HintofVintagePink · 09/07/2021 23:10

Pongwe Beach hotel in Zanzibar. Like stepping into a Bounty advert and absolute heaven.

Gara Rock in Devon. A bugger to get to but the views and walk to Salcombe are sublime.

The Green House in Bournemouth. A little pocket of eco luxury.

goose1964 · 09/07/2021 23:18

Radisson blue in Tallinn, mainly for the amazing breakfast ,smoked sturgeon anyone?

Cowbells · 09/07/2021 23:22

I am reading this thread with wide eyes. Don't think I've ever stayed in a really amazing hotel. Been to a few nice ones but nothing so special that it deserves a mention here.

Now I want to visit some of these places. Especially the Taj in Udaipur!

Purplebunnie · 09/07/2021 23:30

Was coming here to say Coombe Abbey. Fantastic hotel and best medieval banquet I've attended and I've been to a few

thenightsky · 10/07/2021 08:11

Wonderful thread, but it's made me cry. I didn't realise how much I miss visiting other places Sad

mdh2020 · 10/07/2021 08:56

Ive stayed in top hotels all round the world but for blowing away the stresses of a week at work you can’t beat The Brudenell in Aldeburgh. Arriving there in the dark on a Friday evening in winter after a dash from work and opening the curtains to see and hear the sea. Pure balm to the soul.

StCharlotte · 10/07/2021 09:35

I do love the central European tradition of champagne at breakfast in hotels.
AnnyFadams · 10/07/2021 15:46

Lived in Radissons and Marriotts for extended periods (>3months at a time) for work in the past.

It can get very weird (Alan Partridge) in a way when the hotel staff get to know you and you become part of the furniture. This can be particularly nice if you are a long way from home and missing family and friends. Often they are in the same boat but not half as well looked after as you, it really used to rile me when I'd see other guests treating them like crap (Middle East particularly bad for this).

But the novelty does wear off Grin

Also the platinum status and enough points for loads of nights away don't hurt.

SecretSpAD · 10/07/2021 16:22

I've stayed in many hotels in many fantastic places, but the one hotel and the one place where I keep going back to (even though I now live in the county!) is Bedruthan in Mawgan Porth in Cornwall.

To me it is everything a hotel should be - great views, great food, chilled and friendly. I still pop there for lunch or for a spa day when allowed and it's stil magic.

ShiteheadRevisited · 10/07/2021 16:34

Capri Palace in Capri is proper old-school glamour, impossibly beautiful and chic. We (literally) bumped in Gwyneth Paltrow and her kids there!

@ferneytorro what I wouldn’t give for a fortnight in the Rasa right now.

Though we never eat in the hotels except breakfast. And I prefer the garden wing, possibly even prefer it pre renovations, so 2005 ish?
