I bloody love a nice hotel. What is your favourite hotel you’ve stayed in?

Mine would be:
Crowne Plaza Changi (Singapore) and got upgraded to the roof terrace suite. Absolutely loved it.
The Langham Hong Kong and stayed in the junior suite!

Could this extremely useful thread be moved to Classics so we can all use it as a reference when we start travellling again?

The Explorer in Patagonia, total luxury but to be honest I preferred the much less expensive hotel inside the Torres del Paine national park ( both in the Chilean part of Patagonia). Scenery and walking incredible, all you need is a comfortable bed to collapse into !

Ahhhh the Mutiara. Overgrown and taken back by the jungle, when last I saw it.”

This is so sad … had a lovely time there. Flamingos in the garden.

A water villa for two weeks in diamonds thudufushi in the Maldives, honestly the views were glorious, climb down from your deck and swim over to the reef, breakfast and afternoon canopes served on your private deck and full bottles of wine in the mini bar, replenished daily, 🥂

The Iniala in Phuket ... I lucked out and won a week in a suite that Kim K had resided in a few weeks previously... this was our room !!

I love the Nam Hai in Hoi An, absolute heaven. The Upper House and the Landmark Mandarin Oriental in Hong Kong are also good….
In the UK I love Limewood.

We went just after it changed to 4s They honoured the free bars etc but I understand that is no longer part of the offer.

Have you been recently?

Andaman in langkawi and Shangri la in muscat…

Justrealised · 07/07/2021 20:22

Westin Grand, Berlin
Rudding Park, Yorkshire
A castle hotel in/near Fintry Scotland (can't remember the proper name)
RIU, Paradise Island, Bahamas (stayed next door too but prefer this hotel)
Grand Floridian, WDW
Intercontinental, Nairobi (there was an elephant sanctuary just behind it)
Peabody hotel, Florida (think it maybe closed now)
Alton Towers, best in UK for our family

I agree with whoever mentioned the Diggle hotel, amazing pub with great staff. They support the local RDA too.

My DH used to travel A LOT for work, and I was stuck at home looking after our DC as no childcare available to go to lovely places with him.

I finally managed to go away with him once (only once, ever) when they were almost grown up. The firm used the Mandarin Oriental in Kuala Lumpur when they were there, and we stayed there for a few days. As we arrived at the hotel he introduced me to the staff and the next day I was greeted by name by them all. The hotel was superb and the food was fabulous.

We went north for the weekend to Pangkor Laut. Out of this world. Outside shower, bath that could house 20, own room over the water.

Love to go back one day.

Moving this thread to classics sounds good but I just don’t know how! Could someone tell me how to do it?

I'm with you on the Andaman. I think of that private empty beach often. The thieving monkeys not so much.

Yes, mandarin oriental in KL is rather special. We went on honeymoon and went back with our kids a few years later. The staff were so lovely and kind. I would love to go back with the new additions to our family as Malaysia is always so incredible…it’s my favourite country to visit.

Another vote for Hotel 41. Just magic, especially as went just before Christmas so it was stunningly decorated and full on proper fire places, so cosy, staff were fab too. Going back this year!

OoglyMoogly · 07/07/2021 21:03

Mercure Hotel Panorama Freiburg
I've stayed there about 8 times now, (pre-covid) nothing is too much trouble.

Tal45 · 07/07/2021 21:05

I generally don't spend too much on hotels, love Le Riad Jasmine in Marrakech but more boutique than high luxe.

What an amazing thread. It's my lottery win thread Grin

My travelling tends to be done on the cheap but I did love The Oyster Box in Umhlanga.

takethegirloutofwales · 07/07/2021 21:18

The Jamaica Inn in Ocho Rios for our honeymoon in 2005. Marilyn Monroe stayed there, Windton Churchill, Meghan Markle had her first wedding there. Never experienced such paradise. We won’t return though as I always worry that the experience wouldn’t be quite as magic second time round and I like to keep magical memories unique.
