Disclaimer - I love animals and im fascinated by them! But truly some have an aura of menace about them...
To start, I give you the Shoebill Stork. Not dangerous or anything but...disconcerting.

@EditedbySKSS aw Mr Cuddles is a great name!

Poorlykitten · 01/07/2021 07:39

Did you know woodlice are very good parents? The females have a ‘pouch’ similar to kangaroos and they look after their young until they are mature enough to go out on their own…😁

drinkingwineoutofamug · 01/07/2021 08:20

Came on to say wolf spider and camel spider but see already mentioned

drinkingwineoutofamug · 01/07/2021 08:23

I give you the bird eating spider

We're going to move this thread to Classics now. Mainly so that we can't see it any more.

Has no-one mentioned the praying mantis? I never wanted to visit let alone live anywhere the insects can be longer than my little finger and then one day on our deck in our LA I looked down and there was a praying mantis crawling up my leg... I calmed down eventually and was able to persuade it to move elsewhere. The same thing happened with a giant grasshopper a few years later.

Re Coconut Crabs - there is evidence that they ate Emilia Earhart after she disappeared. The island where it's thought her plane crashed found wreckage and bones that were a close match to a woman in her mid-30s. There was also evidence of a campfire and her makeup - specifically freckle ointment.

Coconut crabs will eat anything including each other and have an excellent sense of smell, particularly for blood.

VenusClapTrap · 06/07/2021 14:23

I just googled Amelia Earhart and crabs. Good Lord. I think I may have nightmares now.

EKGEMS · 06/07/2021 14:42

My sister's friend went to kill a wolf spider in her bath tub and all the babies it was carrying went running all over her tub/bathroom. I'd have burnt the house down Sad

PussGirl · 06/07/2021 14:52

I think pelicans are horribly creepy & they are HUGE - once saw one eat a duck - shudder!

memberofthewedding · 06/07/2021 14:58

Some people think reptiles are creepy but i love them - even snakes. I like the patterns on their scales and their beady little eyes. I particularly love tortoises.

We get these on the side of our house (we are not in UK) and they are menacing indeed!!! They have proper little alien/human-like faces

Pelicans are bastards!
SamusIsAGirl · 10/07/2021 08:32

I remember that pelican in London that ate a pigeon. There was an actual photo of the pigeon sitting in the pelican's bill just chilling, unaware of its doom.
