To realise I like old lady things

AiryFairyMum · 20/06/2020 15:13

I bought some Yardley perfume for my grandmother and haven't been able to give it to her due to lockdown. I really like it and am going to buy some for me.
Also, I've started looking at those pointy cross-your hearty bras and thinking they look comfy and I quite like the shape, without having to cope with underwires (which I hate).
I'm 37, not 73. Are there any other old lady things I might like please?

My mother in law bought me an electric blanket after I stayed at hers with DH and discovered the delights of a pre-warmed bed.

It’s the best present I have ever received. I’m 33 Grin

Binterested · 20/06/2020 20:05

Are those bras the ‘Lift and separate’ ones I remember from my childhood? I think they were advertised on TV Confused. It made no sense then but now I need some lifting and separation Grin

AdaColeman · 20/06/2020 20:11

MsMeNz · 20/06/2020 20:12

Full knickers every time. Jigsaw puzzles, high waist stretch jeans m&s jeans, hot water bottles, my Queen Anne footstool, I don't understand the youth of today 😁

isthismylifenow · 20/06/2020 20:13

We are having a bit of a rough start to winter and I've realised how old ladyish I have become.

Thr electric blanket is on a list to buy as I want one as both my DC do, so I have a hot water bottle. It has a knitted cover.

I have the world's uglyiest blanket on my bed with a top sheet and then then the duvet. There is just no way I could have a fwb as that blanket would make a man run for his life. Ooh but it's so warm.

I dug out all the long sleeved vests and this morning dd had a tussle to wear the clean one. I won and was ever so pleased. It's thermal and it's long enough so that I can tuck it in to my pj bottoms. Once again thank goodness there is no fwb.

When I'm in the supermarket and am in the soap aisle, I smell all the soap. I always start with Vinolia. I realised its a bit of a habit now as I even shoved my mask down so I could get a good whiff of the lavender.

I put a table cloth on my outside table as it just seemed the right thing to do. I like to sit there in a sunny spot and drink my tea.

I only like writing with a black pen. Blue just doesn't do it for me anymore. I have no idea why but I think perhaps the black is easier to see......

Lists. I have a list for a list these days. I have a now bought a magnetic pen so I can stick it to the fridge for writing my lists.

I have a favorite gas burner.

I used to spend hours looking at nice things I can't afford to buy. They used to be clothes, perfume etc. My last mega search were cast iron pots.

Wauden · 20/06/2020 20:15

Vintage silk scarves, which I love and have a stash of
Vintage brooches
I have a hand-made double quilt that is lovely. Couple of people hinted that I could change my will Grin
Gigantic knickers with flower patterns
Rose scented things
Romantic songs
The above were inexpensive

And I used to go to punk concerts
I am happy with the mix

Chouradanilova · 20/06/2020 20:16

Pears soap, comfy shoes, knitting, Youth Dew and Mitsouko scent, an absorbing novel, my Lorna Hill Wells books, Ovaltine and a walk around an antiques centre or antiques fair followed by a cup of tea, a slice of cake and a nice sit down.

undercoveraessedai · 20/06/2020 20:20

Sloggi big knockers - so comfy and give a lovely silhouette :)

Hot water bottles, jigsaws, Agatha Christie, radox shea butter bubble bath, tea in proper teacups - I think all my old lady joys might have already been ticked by other posters 😂

VictoriaBun · 20/06/2020 20:20

I just crocheted myself a thick scarf/shawl thingy with pockets in to wrap myself in on chilly nights in on the sofa .

undercoveraessedai · 20/06/2020 20:20

Knickers not knockers 😂😂😂

toffeeghirl · 20/06/2020 20:41

MrsCrosbyNRTB · 20/06/2020 20:57

My favourite perfume is L’air du Temps. My very hip and woke brother told me I smell like a granny’s bathroom. I care not.

Also lavender essential oil, rose hand cream, BIG knickers, hot water bottles, cats, furry slippers, a nice blanket on the sofa, cardigans, going to bed at 9, a nice cup of tea and a sit down.

I could go on............

PurBal · 20/06/2020 20:57

I'm 29. I have mustard spoons and cake forks. I wear the same perfume as my late 93 year old grandma. I think babies are adorable in bonnets.

Chottie · 20/06/2020 20:57

How could I forget tray cloths :)

My elderly cousin used to have a special one (hand embroidered by her mother) which she used on her tea trolley. This was loaded up with afternoon tea in the kitchen and then pushed through to the sitting room to be served.
