Oooo I received an anonymous letter this morning...from THE VILLAGERS 😬

Will post a pic later but need to redact info first.

An A4 page complaining about rubbish outside my house, that they’ve been picking it up for months, I have a responsibility to secure my rubbish and I have two weeks to get 2/3 wheelie bins or “measures will be taken”

It’s actually quite polite tbf if you ignore the subtle threat

Only problem is....it isn’t my fucking rubbish! We locked the gate to the field a few months ago and everyone now flytips outside the farm instead (by everyone I mean a few wankers) usually black bags that have missed the bin men/women. They use to chuck them on our farm bonfire but as the gate is locked they throw them on the bondary of my property. My rubbish is kept on my property until bin day.

Unfortunately they’ve missed all the signs saying we have CCTV so I’ll be having a look to see if I can see any pitchforks and angry villagers when I get back from the school run

I’m willing to accept that the letter writer may well have dyslexia, but why would you give the job of letter writer to the dyslexic villager?

LuluJakey1 · 25/06/2018 10:22

Could your local bobby speed round with blue lights and sirens flashing? That would soon spread.

We have weekly rubbish collections and recycling and fortnightly garden waste collections. It has to be in your big wheelie bin though;they won't take anything else- that is a special collection that costs £10 to be picked up.

Aprilshouldhavebeenmyname · 25/06/2018 10:23

Maybe a sheep wrote it??

Furiosa · 25/06/2018 10:23

OP, I'm at the receiving end of fly tippers too. I live in a block of flats with a communal bin area. despited LARGE NOTICES THAT STATE THE BINS ARE FOR FLAT OWNERS ONLY our lovely neighbours still put their rubbish in our bins causing all sorts of problems and impact us financially. It's so unfair.

Yesterday I saw a couple I din't recognise chucking boxes into our bin yard. I didn't confront them at the time as there is always the possibility the are new residents but I clocked their reg number and later looked at the boxes. The idiots have fly tip our bin yard with boxes showing their address.

Later today I'm making DP dive us to their house and return their rubbish. Not sure if I should just chuck it at their door or put a ribbon on it and knock?

PolkaHots · 25/06/2018 10:25

This is classic!

Ididnthearanything · 25/06/2018 10:25

Do the SoupDragon one - correct it with red pen!

SnartyFartBlast · 25/06/2018 10:25

Eagerly waiting for CCTV update!

Churrolicious · 25/06/2018 10:29

Wow. Threads like this make me happy that despite my fantasies of living in the countryside I live in a town.

ZibbidooZibbidooZibbidoo · 25/06/2018 10:31

Not placemarking at all. No way, not me. Wink

Eryngium · 25/06/2018 10:31

Well, that is clearly written by one person trying to make themselves sound more imposing and authoritative by using "we".

If it had genuinely been a group of people they wouldn't have felt the need to put the final "we" in capital letters, to try and make you feel that the whole village is watching your response, not just one solitary busybody.

SleepingStandingUp · 25/06/2018 10:32

I'd report it to your local police station as threatening, and make it clear you habe repeatedly reported the fly tipping.

Will it get collected if its in a different colour? Can you put yours in say green and take a photo every week to show the council?

And yy to correction in red, laminate and pin up wherever you are saying that threatening people is against the law, as is fly tipping so can they both please stop

2blueshoes · 25/06/2018 10:32

As much as I hate DM, it would've been the perfect story to shame the anonymous villagers. Just need a photo of you looking all sad.

We had a non anonymous letter off one of our neighbours I do not know well, basically saying, 'I know you're all saying I'm a pedophile, but I'm not' 😳 I wasn't thinking it until he sent the letter.

CrustyCob · 25/06/2018 10:33

Good for you taking it to the Village Bobby.

Very strange writing indeed, definitely one of The Village People, probably one who has already fallen out with the Parish Council.

Check CCTV for someone singing YMCA.....

TheSpottedZebra · 25/06/2018 10:33

I'm not sure it is the archetypal older person sending that. They'd typically have better spelling and grammar

I'd say 50 yo neighbour, singular.

PanPanPanPing · 25/06/2018 10:33

"The idiots have fly tip our bin yard with boxes showing their address." Furiosa, that's hilarious Grin. Well, not so much for you.

We're at the end of a terrace and share a side alley with our NDN - so we both keep our bins there. One day I'd come out of the back gate to find a woman I didn't recognise putting some bags of rubbish into one of our bins. I did confront her - and she told me she was NDN's cleaner, made all the more embarrassing for me when she told me she used to clean for the previous owner (she named him) for years. I just hadn't recognised her and had to apologise profusely Blush

TheSpottedZebra · 25/06/2018 10:35

I also don't think it was a farming type or even a sheep as they'd be able to spell animals with more confidence.

KurriKurri · 25/06/2018 10:36

What a bizarre letter - i'd definitely have a word with village bobby - there's a nasty little threat in there 'measure to make you think !!!!' that definitely sounds like pitchforks, KKK outfits and flaming torches.

I'd be very tempted to send a note round to all villagers saying the rubbish is not yours and you have given the threatening letter to the police and they are investgating. Make the cowardly little gits shit their pants a bit.

Trilllllian · 25/06/2018 10:37

Haven’t rtft but I know from experience that if the rubbish has an address in it councils can and will issue a fine.

HooraySunshine · 25/06/2018 10:38

Do you live in my village?? This sounds like something that would happen around here. I have CCTV and they still come onto my property to do things, it doesn't deter them at all.

Hopefully your CCTV catches the note writer and the flytippers so at least you know who you are dealing with. Good luck!

CookPassBabtridge · 25/06/2018 10:40

The letter isn't showing for me, it's a picture of a catConfused

Trilllllian · 25/06/2018 10:40

Great watermark there OP btw

sleepingdragons · 25/06/2018 10:40

This is a threat. "Measures to make you think"

Take it to the police.

I wouldn't be too worried about it, I don't think it's a serious threat - but it certainly could be read as one and the police should have a word with whoever sent it. Shouldn't be too hard to track down!

Will probably make your local bobby's day to have a real mystery to investigate!

PotatoesDieInHotCars · 25/06/2018 10:42

They're going to put you on the naughty step.

Oooo I received an anonymous letter this morning...from THE VILLAGERS 😬
alwaysthepessimist · 25/06/2018 10:43

Good lord that letter is bloody awful!! Yes to spell checking it & correcting in red pen too.

Your village sounds very old school though

As for the letter writer they sound demented & a little worrying....

@Zaphodsotherhead - yes please - can I have a strawberry one? Is anyone doing teas or shall I get the kettle on?

busybuildingdens · 25/06/2018 10:43

Haha, ‘fasinate’! Is that supposed to read ‘vicinity’??
