Is Voldemort a virgin?

OhShutUpThomas · 21/02/2016 21:07

And any other Harry Potter mysteries!

Can anyone answer mine?
Is Voldemort a virgin?
What happened to Rodolphus Lestrange?
Why do some spells take weeks and hours of homework to learn, yet Harry can imperious people by just saying it?

Anyone else? I've got more, can't think just now. Just finished re-reading!

The number of people is because JK Rowling isn't the best at numbers. She imagined a really small community (so small that in the first book, McGonagall can work out who was responsible for the shooting stars discussed on the muggle news just from the county) and then didn't realise the logical consequences.

OhShutUpThomas · 21/02/2016 21:42

Speaking of Fawkes - what is a Phoenix? I think it's supposed to be more than just a bird.
And Harry thinks he sees one flying from Dumbledore's funeral fire.

I mean if you think about it he was born during the big wizarding war so people were dying and stuff and probably not thinking very much about having babies.

SuffolkNWhat · 21/02/2016 21:42

Voldemort made his first horcrux at 16, Hogwarts full of shagging teenagers!

OhShutUpThomas · 21/02/2016 21:43

But Maryz, Hogwarts is the only UK one.

40 magic children per year in the whole of the UK? Not enough!!

I know he Floo'd his head, but if it were me I'd Floo all of me and run round Grimmauld Place shouting, not kneel on the floor in Umbridge's office shouting from the fireplace till someone turned up. But Harry's not the sharpest tool in the box Grin

Do we think there is a portrait of Umbridge in the office? It's never mentioned, but she was legit Headmistress for a while.

VertigoNun · 21/02/2016 21:46

I thought Virgin, until someone said it would be a power thing. If he does have sex the witch would have to beg for it and he will wear a condom, he won't want a pregnancy and lack of power.

Unfairestofthemall · 21/02/2016 21:49

Ah but it is said in one book that some parents choose to send their kids abroad/ home school. Hence why controlling underage magic in pure blood homes is harder as they can't tell who did it.

I reckon Voldemort was a giant tease and got bellatrix to do everything by playing on her affections for him.

Do you reckon they do sex education in hogwarts? Otherwise how are they preventing teenage pregnancy?

TaraCarter · 21/02/2016 21:51

Epic cross-post!

OhShutUpThomas · 21/02/2016 21:51

I don't think she was though. The headmasters office never let her in.

That's true, it didn't.

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 21/02/2016 21:53

See, Voldemort having sex, with all the power-crazed noseless insanity - that seems very wrong.

But if you think back to Tom Riddle, and that egocentric, narcissistic Etonian sense of utter entitlement - definitely up for seeking out the Hogsmeade brothel IMO.

Although I don't think he would be able to deal with a woman (BL) actually being interested in him sexually, except on a "how can I gain from this" level.

/totally overthinking this.

timeKeepingOnMars · 21/02/2016 21:57

I think that during his late teens and early adulthood it would have been very important to him to have pureblooded women (especially any that might have looked down on him as a first year muggleborn in Hogwarts) falling at his feet.

^^ I thought this too - more a status thing then got serious about pursuing power and didn't bother.

40 magic children per year in the whole of the UK? Not enough!!

Home schooling or boarding abroad - I mean seriously one choice of one secondary that not going to suit every child so they must have other options.

Elledouble · 21/02/2016 22:04

Can you only kill someone with Avada Kedavra?

If not, why aren't there more Unforgiveable Curses?

If so, were all the 'goodies' using it in the Battle Of Hogwarts?

Were they in trouble for using Unforgiveable Curses? Or are they actually Forgiveable in certain circumstances?

thegiddylimit · 21/02/2016 22:04

Wizards and witches live longer than Muggles so they would need a lower birth rate to maintain numbers (and that's not even going into if they live longer are they fertile longer, e.g. there's a real link for women between having children in your 40s and living beyond 100). And with a small community you are more likely to get lots of people turning up to cultural events like the Quidditch world cup (because there's not many other options, e.g. there's no talk of Wizarding art galleries or theatres or television or museums or literature (beyond Beadle the Bard's stories for children and practical spell books))

in the first book, McGonagall can work out who was responsible for the shooting stars discussed on the muggle news just from the county

But we never find out if she's right so it could be a wide guess based on who she knows.

JK Rowling says you don't pay for Wizarding school but I wonder if Hogwarts is selective and there are other less impressive Wizarding schools around the country where the Squibs etc go?

SuffolkNWhat · 21/02/2016 22:05

Squibs generally go to smuggle schools so they can learn to live in the Muggle world (see Mrs Figg)

SuffolkNWhat · 21/02/2016 22:05

muggle not smuggle

BoulevardOfBrokenSleep · 21/02/2016 22:07

TimeKeepingOnMars - " I mean seriously one choice of one secondary that not going to suit every child so they must have other options."

Am now picturing the wizarding equivalent of MN Grin

"AIBU to not send Aristophanes to Hogwarts? I hear the Muggle intake is higher than ever this year."

I'm sure when Harry and Ron tried to get into Hermione's dorm once and the stairs turned into a slide so they slid back down. So no dorm hopping. Smile

ratspeaker · 21/02/2016 22:16

Tom Riddle maybe not a virgin
all that angst, and moodiness not to mention power.

Voldemort , doubt he'd get his end away if his willy looked like his face

SuffolkNWhat · 21/02/2016 22:17

Molly Weasley did hint at it in GoF when she mentioned getting a telling off from the Fat Lady after a 3am meet up with Arthur Wink
