To ask what happens when you have a massage? Only something weird (I think) just happened to me.

So, I used to live in Switzerland for work, and a perk of the job was a weekly massage in a fancy spa. Excellent stuff, always went for a Swedish, was always happy.

I've moved to London and been looking for a place near work that can I can pop into as required. Just come back from my first session - had booked for a Swedish, which is the only type I've ever had.

It was nothing like the technique I am used to! In fact, I'm a little weirded out/unsure if what she did to me was normal at all!

So, may I ask - when you get a massage, what type do you get, and what happens (step by step, if you can)?

'When I sat up I noticed that 9yo dd who was sat in the corner had had her head and face wrapped up in a warm, wet towel by the masseuse!'

Haha, I laughed out loud at this. One of the funniest things I've read on MN in ages.

Oh god. I normally have Swedish and have never experienced anything quite like that....you could leave a google review to warn others? :)

Joking aside - you could call and ask to speak to the manager or chalk it up to experience and never go back.

NO HANDS therapists do deep abdominal massage, specifically targeting the colon. It depends how far through their training they are whether they have trained in it or not yet - go to www.nohandsmassage.com/practitioner and make sure you choose an advanced practitioner if it is something that interests you.

Thumb and bluemoon thanks for the replies.
Deep tissue and myofacial release. +/- dry needling.
I know it's a killer- I have adhesions from a botched cesarean (12") and everything is stuck together with scars and adhesions. Just wondering if I'll have to keep paying 70£ a pop with my physio, or could I get someone cheaper if they even look at your 'front'.

Whenever I've had a massage they flit around greasily, or press so hard on you feel like you're going to burst.

What's a medium massage called- not one with so much pressure you can't walk afterwards, or so light that's it's like some kind of wafty swish. TIA

Venus - have you looked into revisional surgery? Is that an option?

I have dealt with scar tissue before but on a hard surface (shoulder/shoulderblade) and it's quite difficult because of the pressure needed to really get decent frictions going - there's no real solid surface in the abdomen against which to do that though.

What about other types of treatment, ones like scenar, or other vibrational treatments? www.ebodyfusion.com/scenar-quickly-softens-scar-tissue/ I'm not guaranteeing results from it, but it might help and can't hurt.

Thumb, trying not to give tmi, my physio uses her hands on the abdomen and pelvic sling. You can feel the adhesions tearing as to she rolls the muscles around between. Ouchy.
Thanks for the links, I'll look into it, and leave everyone to their stiletto massages Shock...... dry needling taken to extremes, eh Grin

Oh dear, I think my hijack has killed the thread.... do I get extra stars because it's in classics? Star Star Star

I once went into a hospital in an ambulance with back agony, and the doctor lay me on my side, pushed my top leg, up and across the other one, (like recovery position), pushed my hip one way with his hand, and wrenched my shoulder back, giving me a huge, cracking twist - it was fabulous!
He said I could come back anytime if I'd seized up, and he'd be happy to crack me again.
He didn't do anything to my bottom though.....

Op I hope you're feeling much better, Biscuit that sounded painful.
