DS malfunctioning

Purchased new directly from the manufacturer six months ago. Beautiful outer packing, all parts intact and delivered quickly.

However, keeps malfunctioning at night; will shut down perfectly for several days and then develops a glitch and makes a high pitched shrieking noise when returned to the night charging unit.

Neither me nor DH have the technical knowledge to fix this fault but I'm hoping there might be an update we can install?

Oh forgot to mention, one problem with the 1959 blue model is that it intermittently has problems interacting with the more recent and technically advanced 1997 Blue model. Inability of the 2 models to communicate can result in overheating of both types leading to the newer model emitting angry noises which are difficult to soothe and the 1959 model shutting down and refusing to communicate or use the openwallet mode.

The very vintage 1946 blue model I have here seems to have improved with age. I'm not sure whether he decided to upload the MustTryHarder app himself, or if it was the threat of the Divorce app that worked. I suspect both of these plus the addition of the SelfControl app - this app does develop glitches every so often but I find the SanguineWife app I loaded (I am a pink 1961 model - of course i assume there are a few glitches now and then, but I can't say I notice them!)a few years ago works wonders and I tend to just ignore the glitches these days. Obviously I wasn't present at the unwrapping of the 1946 model.

Two of the blue models I unpacked myself at the depot(1990 and 1993 versions) have added the IndependentLiving app recently. I do miss them but they haven't needed to phish for money for a while so the new app is working quite well it seems. The 1990 version had a birthday not long ago so both versions came back to collect presents and eat cake. It was grand for me too. Smile

We have another two blue models. The 1993 one was found to have several software errors on unpacking. Despite various interventions back at the depot these couldn't be fixed. But he's great fun to have around. And has had a partial loading of the IndependentActivity app a few years ago. We see him onto a CommunalTravelUnit and he spends time every week at the education and work experience interfaces.

The 1998 version had the ASD app loaded at some point. We didn't actually notice this till about 7 years after unpacking. We are still looking for the SleepatNormalTimes button. I suspect it was forgotten in the factory and can never be totally restored. To a point the 1946 version has this glitch too.

Regarding the unpacking process, it was a long time ago now - and though I've not forgotten the 'traumas' they bother me much less these days. Suffice to say the only version not needing assistance was the newest one - though the packaging was for ever damaged by the deliveries of the previous versions, the 1998 version really did most of the unpacking himself. Because of the previous need for help with unpacking I was persuaded staying at home for the unpacking wasn't a good idea. In the event I just stayed home till very late on, eventually agreed to travel in the back of a white van, went to the depot where one of the depot staff had a poke about at my wrappings, then I coughed a few times and that was the 1998 version totally unwrapped. I suppose you can't have everything.

I am pleased to say that the 1946 model I 'use' has various apps including calculus. And now the 1994 model has got more maths apps than any of the others, I think I'll just stick with MN and not bovver with maths stuff.

The 1994 version we have is weird in the sense that he seems to have arrived with almost everything intact, unlike many of the other versions we have here, and bringing him to the IndependentLiving stage was actually a joy. Though I think his association from the age of 16 with a very lovely pink 1995 version was a GOOD thing and meant he worked much harder for exams, so that his entry to the tertiary education interface was fairly easy. Sadly, like many teen stage blue versions he does have the LazyArse app. Shame that his arrival possibly did most damage to my packaging, but that was made up for by the fact he had from day one a SensibleAttitudetoNaturalRecharging app. I think it's often just matter of chance.

I also have a ASD blue model 2010 model there was a lot of issues with delivery ,delivery was fourteen days later than expected and was very long and drawn out he appeared to have been packed wrongly and needed a suction device to complete delivery he is both a little divil and a delight but does malfunction at night regularly he has just acquired a melatonin app to hopefully sort this out ! I also have a blue 2006 model his delivery was also a long drawn out affairs we got notice of his arrival four days before eventual delivery and initially we thought he would arrive for Xmas day actually there must of been some hold up at the depot due to Xmas post and he arrived very early on boxing day after some years of night malfunction we seem to have sorted this out and will now charge all night in his own charging unit rather than mine ! It has taken seven years to sort out this particular glitch!!

x2boys · 01/10/2014 19:42

I also have two 1940,s models one pink one blue who are both endearing an d annoying in equal measures ! I have a 1975 dh model he lost his hair app at a very early age and we have on ongoing problem with his added sweaty socks app I am quite attached to these models though and although they annoy me sometimes with their various malfunctions I don't think I will return them I don't think the manructurer would accepted them anyway the guarantee must have ran years ago!

dementedma · 01/10/2014 20:16

My pink 1993 model has been interfacing with a blue 1987 model.I am concerned about the sharing of systems and possible cross contamination. I do hope this doesn't result in a 2015 model of either hue!!!

TodaysAGoodDay · 01/10/2014 21:27

My 2006 blue model is currently going through an increased energy intake period, I have a feeling it may be upgrading itself to a taller model. I do not want this to happen, I am very happy with the model as it is and do not want it to get any bigger. The equipment needed for a bigger one is getting increasingly more expensive...Hmm

freshstart4us · 01/10/2014 22:14

Today my pink 2014 seems to have the GrowingLikeWeeds add on, perhaps your model has this too? The costs of upgrading all the peripherals is truly extortionate, someone would invent extendable ports, leads, etc that would allow batches more than 2 minutes' use!!

freshstart4us · 01/10/2014 22:14

Sorry my pink is a 2011! Oops!!

FatMumSlim72 · 01/10/2014 22:24

Soapy, hope the noises have become less frequent. Best thing to do may be to chuck out the handbook.

Ok, this is getting serious, now I've just come to terms with the serious opinion asking issue with my eldest, now my youngest appears to have installed the conscientious homework app. Meanwhile I appear to have installed the WhatTheBlazesIsGoingOn app.

FatMumSlim72 · 02/10/2014 09:08

That UKIP virus does seem to have that effect. And also seems to set off that 'Drinking Beer' app at random.

katandkits · 02/10/2014 10:22

Has anyone else found that the more vintage models seem to have downloaded the unsolicited advice app with regards to the maintenance of the most recent models? Can this programming be deleted? I am quite fond of keeping my shiney new 2014 pink 2.0 unit close to my person but apparently this will cause the automatic download of program BackRod which they say is hard to uninstall.

Ericaequites · 02/10/2014 17:59

I have a1937 pink model which has lost much of its short and long term data storage and CPU power. Her mate, a 1935 blue model, has installed COPD pulmonary slowdown due to excessive use of the MarlboroCigarette app. I worry about them a good deal. Luckily, the CPU on the blue model remains in excellent tick, though rather antique in output.
If your child unit turns out to be not typically pink or blue, the LoveSupportAcceptence app is required for efficient operation.

StuntNun · 03/10/2014 09:38

Apparently my 2003 DS model has been upgraded early and already has the TeenageApp even though the upgrade wasn't scheduled for another 18 months.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 03/10/2014 09:57

Stunt
I find my 2003 DS model seems to intermittently operate the TeenageApp. I think it runs in the backround most of the time but sometimes seems to override all protocols resulting in a system meltdown.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 03/10/2014 09:58

background not backround

My 1958 blue model is taking longer and longer to charge. Is this a known bug?

LetsFaceTheMusicAndDance · 05/10/2014 23:26

My DS1994 model had to be sent away for advanced updates last September. The glitches that most of the later models are prone to all suddenly stopped. However, the DS1996 model was posted a week ago and has interfaced with my emails and mobile phone. It's now sending bizarre requests for information about simple everyday instructions. When I attempt to initiate contact, it becomes unavailable.

empra · 06/10/2014 17:18

I have a vintage 1929 pink model which has happily avoided all the nasty viruses to which the older models are prone. We put this down to regular running of the Golf 9.0 and 18.0 add ons. Sadly our 1930 blue model picked up so many viruses that it had to be scrapped.

I have found that the 1998 blue model is much more likely to run Washing up & Generally helpful apps if staying with the 1929 model. My 2001 pink models (we got a bogof deal) both seem to have been infected with the stroppy teenager virus

DaughterDilemma · 08/10/2014 00:18

Empra they don't make them like they used to. My 1928 model can go for hours without recharging and puts the younger models to shame with its robust mechanics. Its uses simple no-nonsense commands and control keys instead of the less effective menus and options which tend to dominate the post 1960 models.

reallywittyname · 13/11/2014 20:16

Our 2013.2 model (pink version) has recently managed to install the WordRepeat patch on its DataUpload programme. Mind this is the same model that successfully disabled the MothershipEnergy linking software by itself once it had run a few TastyThings apps so I don't know why I'm surprised. However it seems to have also downloaded the No/Shan't apps and often runs HorizontalWailing1.0 at the same time, usually when there are other units of all ages around. However I have found that disabling the ParentUnit response programme and running Scoop&Leave app often clears the loop but this often requires running Cuddles afterwards to restore full functionality.
On a lighter note, the Sleep glitches were ironed out before Upgrade 1 happened and this model will stay in its night charging unit on sleep mode for a full twelve hours in silence (with the occasional squeak - but this isn't a problem, it just reassures us that the charging is still in progress). I am not sure if the arrival of the recent order I put in will affect this though, do brand new models interfere with older ones? And should I get a new night charging unit or will the new model be happy with that and will the older model be ok with a less secure night charging connection by then?
