DS malfunctioning

soapybubbles123 · 29/09/2014 20:25

Purchased new directly from the manufacturer six months ago. Beautiful outer packing, all parts intact and delivered quickly.

However, keeps malfunctioning at night; will shut down perfectly for several days and then develops a glitch and makes a high pitched shrieking noise when returned to the night charging unit.

Neither me nor DH have the technical knowledge to fix this fault but I'm hoping there might be an update we can install?

My superior 2011 model which is excellent at recharging [smug emoticon] appears to be malfunctioning this week as well.

It's usually a standalone unit but this week it's been setting off its alarm at frequent intervals and has become hard to put down.

We also upgraded recently to independent ejection but that seems to be a bit dodgy as well.

madamginger · 30/09/2014 16:29

My 2008 blue version has rebooted to its 2008 nighttime mode and malfunctioned 4 times last night and now my 2010 blue version has broken its volume control and turned into a shouty model that I definitely didn't order.
The pink 2006 model has developed a know it all dramatic flouce upgrade which will need some serious work or it's losing its weekend late night privileges.

soapybubbles123 · 30/09/2014 16:38

After 4 hours DS has successfully fully charged, rebooted and is running the HappyAndSmiley programme.

Hurrah!!

soapy hurrah! I think you may be in for a late one tonight thought... My 2011DD has always run a Sleep Aggregate add-on, I had to be pretty regimented about her day sleeps or she would be up til 10pm. We are currently trialling the NoNap App 1.0, very buggy and looking forward to a new version that doesn't come with the COMPLETEMELTDOWNAT6PM line error.

Momagain1 · 30/09/2014 16:47

CallMe, as with most bugs that come with the TEEN-OS upgrade, it may disappear, or it may resolve. We had good luck modifying Sarca.SM into a basic DryHumour in the final ADULT-OS.

Hi everyone,

Thanks for your reports. We've now upgraded this thread using the Classics add-on.

I have a late 2007 pink model, which also seems to have developed a Strop and Answer Back defect. I really can't quite understand it. We've tried pressing the Removal of Precious Items button, have consigned it to the bedroom to no avail. It's strange that my friend has the same model but in blue and is having the same problem. My boss, who has the early 2008 variant of the same, is also noticing some major defects. I'm told by another friend that her early 2007 blue model is absolutely perfect: could she be lying?!

I was very pleased with my late 2010 pink model until it seemed to removed many words from its vocabulary and replaced it with "no".

On the other hand, I've lucked out as both seem to recharge correctly at night. Having said that, the 2010 model keeps discarding essential night-time items (primarily that which covers it and keeps it warm) at various times during the night.

For some reason, the 1979 variant with which I share my home cannot hear the Blanket Loss Alarm. Is this apparent deafness temporary?

BrucieTheShark · 30/09/2014 17:01

The weird thing is that the vintage models apparently never malfunctioned and massively outperformed all the newer models.

It's odd as they were treated appallingly - left out in the garden, any unusual or high-pitched noises simply ignored, reset with a smack (of all things) at the first sign of a programming glitch.

I'm told that this is down to modern technology and its improved ability to manufacture rods for people's own backs.

I don't really understand all the techie terminology tbh.

StepAwayFromTheEcclesCakes · 30/09/2014 17:05

I have two older models 18 and 21 years respectively, both blue models. I found one was malfunctioning in a similar way for almost two years but has since been ok. The other was pretty standard from day one but oddly enough as they reached a similar age both developed a fault that rendered them nocturnal, we found that frequent recharging with the contents of the fridge worked well until we found that alcohol lubrication increased this effect and as yet have not discovered the page in the manual that rectifies this, sending one away to a place to be fixed by lubricating more often than at home is being trialled for the next 3 years and we hope that eventually they will self rectify and function as anticipated prior to unpacking.

Returning via the original delivery mode is always fraught with difficulty with these malfunctioning units.....

soapybubbles123 · 30/09/2014 17:09

My first Classic Blush

Thank you AmyMN Grin

DS has now also successfully refuelled and is currently helping install the Tooth 1.0 add on by gnawing on a rusk

I have a 15 year old model which randomly slams doors and alternates between two languages; stroppy and rude in the mornings and affectionate and kind in the evenings.
The 10 year old model, has recently developed leg hair (which concerns them greatly) and is getting taller faster than the older model and has taken to uttering such strange phrases such as 'leave me alone, I am doing my homework'.

Jux · 30/09/2014 17:13

When my 1999 unit malfunctioned in this way, my uncle recommended keeping it in the shed for 18 years. He says he wanted to try it with both his units but his wife wouldn't let him give it a good go Shock.

littledrummergirl · 30/09/2014 17:15

Omg. I had forgotten the delivery nightmare.
The 2002 model arrived 5 weeks early in the middle of the night with about 30 minutes notice. It then promptly failed and needed a hard reboot.

Dh was not happy when he found me trying to reboot and called the factory to chase up the van.

The specialist engineers got lost taking us to the factory!

Thankfully the other deliveries were reasonably straight forward although still without much notice.

BlotOnTheLandscape · 30/09/2014 17:18

Ah yes, the delivery nightmare. One of mine kept refusing to arrive when the delivery had been scheduled, the delivery officials were trying everything to hasten the delivery but it refused to cooperate and the other insisted arriving in a great rush one morning despite implementation of the StayThereAndGrowMore add on.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 30/09/2014 17:22

My pink 2007 model had a well functioning sleep mode from 3 weeks after delivery, unfortunately, it seems to have a lawyer/politician mode as well, also it has an "Ask inane questions" mode.

Delivery was a nightmare, 11 hours after getting to the depot, they had to slice the box open to get it, who the fuck packed it like that.

ChazsBrilliantAttitude · 30/09/2014 17:26

Someone had packed my blue 2003 model upside down which also required the packaging to be cut open.

soapybubbles123 · 30/09/2014 17:31

The first attempted delivery if DS wasn't even in the right YEAR, Lord knows which numpty booked that slot. We did manage to rearrange the delivery for a more appropriate time but this required two installations of the Steroid app.

OP posts:
LumpenproletariatAndProud · 30/09/2014 17:33

Ooof Ive heard the Steroid Application is a pain in the arse to apply.

I was lucky to avoid that with my models.

In fact, mine were both really late. Im complained, a LOT but it didnt seem to make any difference.

TaliZorahVasNormandy · 30/09/2014 17:35

All that matters Soapy is that it came complete and working.

My unit was due for delivery the day before my birthday, we finally left the depot on my birthday in the evening. The sleep app wasnt installed then.

Takver · 30/09/2014 18:19

I reckon that you should consider looking for an older / vintage model, soapybubbles. My 2002 version of the dd admittedly is a little heavy on fuel, and does cost more to run than the newer ones, but it's pretty reliable, and has a good range of functions including 'dinner making' and 'washing up' (admittedly there is a certain amount of grumbling noise sometimes associated with the latter procedure).

I've often wondered if I could make a bit of money on the side by hiring out my 1992F model which has an excellent baking/cooking function. Flapjacks are promised for the end of the week.

My 1993M model has for some years had an app that shoots out very short, dry ripostes. Most other speech functions have never been fully operational. This may be because 20 years ago the 1992F had the very common incessant talking bug and the 1993 couldn't get a word in edgeways.
