to think that I might still be able to find a small monkey toy to replace the one my ds lost 3 three years ago?

DS loves monkeys and has collected them since he was tiny. This one was his favourite- it used to be mine, and was over 20 years old so they don’t sell them any more. He somehow took it into town with him and lost it well over three years ago now. He’s now 6. But at regular intervals since then he has cried again about losing it. The latest time was this week. I have scoured the internet, ebay and car boot sales but have never been able to find one. I tried contacting the shop it was bought from but that hit a deadend too. I think it was a ‘russ’ something. The actual monkey was about the size of a toddler’s hand- it was tiny, probably only about 4 inches long and it was filled with tiny beans.

I know I need to let it go, and I know its one of life’s lessons, but I would so love to track one down for him. If anyone has any bright ideas or has one of these monkleys (I would pay obviously!!), please let me know

Ahem. I seem to have something in my eye!

Lovely story - well done everyone, especially Jinkle! Who says we are a nest of vipers?

Just to say- Jinkle and I have been in contact and with a combination of access to post offices and half term holiday factors, Mango (the original monkey's name) won't be returning from the North Pole until after Friday May 30th. But I promise that as soon as they are reunited I will update the thread. (I am very excited- it's going to be a long week!)
Thanks again everyone- and thanks Mumsnet!

I just came across this thread and sat reading every post. My ds loves monkeys and has a growing collection. His favourite beloved one is a little beanie chimp. He adores it so much I have a spare. So this thread was really lovely, I then got to the photo of the right monkey and realised my pils have the same monkey (minus the Xmas hat) in a box of old toys at their house for my son to play with when we visit!

Sorry posted too soon, I can ask them how they came by one if you like? I know you have found a replacement but he could be the original??

Oooh, I think Mango has been to visit his long lost brother in the North Pole and has brought him home with him!

Has to be a twin brother for extra emotional appeal. He had to bring the hat home with him though so OP's son could tell him apart. It took him so long because he had to go by Bike okay, so I have just been dying to use the new emoticon
Love this thread. Grin

Oooh floatyflo, you've got me thinking now (but I don't want to get greedy, as I was beyond excited at the thought of north pole mango being found).
As coincidence has it Catsize and Overcooked, ds is an identical twin (honestly!! my dsis who appeared upthread can confirm). I wonder if there is a story there we could weave. It wouldn't need to affect north pole monkey's return. If it worked out that it was the same one, the other one could follow him home later (and then each twin would have one!)
Probably getting carried away now...

Returned from holiday today and there was a package addressed to my ds. Jinkle had written an absolutely super story about how he (Mango- the original monkey’s name) had spent the last couple of years- honestly it brought tears to my eyes. Ds is absolutely delighted and can’t believe Mango has come home. He is a sensitive little boy and it has been so heart warming to see him today. He has been so happy. He hasn’t let him out of his sight since (special permission for him to sit at the table for tea). He said he’s not going to take him outside the house again (or near open windows!). He has been reunited with his other little soft toy friends and is back beside him in bed. I walked past him singing him a little song about how much he loved him earlier. I am having to keep reminding myself it’s not actually the original Mango back from helping Father Christmas! Have totally bought into it- Jinkle’s letter really was very convincing!
So a huge thank you to all of you for your help and your determination to track him down- I am sure the positive vibes helped! Thank you Mumsnet and obviously the biggest thank you of all to Jinkle. I still have a lump in my throat and I seriously owe Jinkle a massive favour. Thank you
