to think that I might still be able to find a small monkey toy to replace the one my ds lost 3 three years ago?

DS loves monkeys and has collected them since he was tiny. This one was his favourite- it used to be mine, and was over 20 years old so they don’t sell them any more. He somehow took it into town with him and lost it well over three years ago now. He’s now 6. But at regular intervals since then he has cried again about losing it. The latest time was this week. I have scoured the internet, ebay and car boot sales but have never been able to find one. I tried contacting the shop it was bought from but that hit a deadend too. I think it was a ‘russ’ something. The actual monkey was about the size of a toddler’s hand- it was tiny, probably only about 4 inches long and it was filled with tiny beans.

I know I need to let it go, and I know its one of life’s lessons, but I would so love to track one down for him. If anyone has any bright ideas or has one of these monkleys (I would pay obviously!!), please let me know

Is this you? If not then is this the monkey??

SistersOfPercy · 16/05/2014 21:11

Russ went under?! Oh no. Genuinely gutted, great company Sad

BridgeOfWhys · 16/05/2014 21:15

Jenny. That is a great shout. Looks just like it to me. Come on OP!

lovessummer · 16/05/2014 21:21

Bridge and jenny- really sorry but he's still not right! The arms on ours wouldn't have gone up like that, and still not quite right material. Possibly also bit too large. Our little guy really was so tiny. So wish it was the right one!
Fortheloveof- not me! There must be a load of missing monkeys somewhere
Sistersofpercy- yes sorry, think I read it on Wikipedia. :-(

Going to a car boot on Sunday. Will keep my eyes peeled!

Damnautocorrect · 16/05/2014 21:28

He's not the monkey from the hug book is he?

lovessummer · 16/05/2014 21:35

Thanks bridge!
Damnauto- no don't think that book was out then

It wasn't that tiny Steif one you had.

lovessummer · 16/05/2014 21:42

No definitely not steif. (Quality not high enough!)

I refuse to believe they only made one of your monkey, then shut the machine down and didn't make any more. I refuse to be beaten!

No, OP does Yoda stare There Is Another.

Retropear · 16/05/2014 21:49

So where was it bought, type of shop could narrow it down?

It must be older than 20 years unless you bought it in your 20s(you didn't did you).

NorksEnormous · 16/05/2014 21:49

Aww can't believe we still haven't found the monkey!

curiousuze · 16/05/2014 21:54

Right, let's do a quick description.

Wee tiny monkey - about 4-5"
Nae feet (or feet aren't a different colour from it's legs)
Nae tail
filled with beans
face like Curious George
Made by Russ (is that definite?)

Anything else?

Sorry for delayed responses again.
Curious suze- he also has shortish legs, and he is lying down rather than in a sitting position
Sistermerror- really hard to tell from the picture, but I think probably not as his ears look the same colour as the rest of his face (whereas the ears on ours were pale), plus head shape looks slightly different I think- but I wouldn't totally rule it out. But I guess if this one is in a sitting position rather than lying down, then it isn't the right one. I seem to remember ours couldn't sit up on his own

Sistermerror- I did get excited for a minute- but I think his has are the same colour as his arms? Ours has white hands/bits on the end of his arms. Also- ours was only about 3 inches long I reckon. Are you able to take a picture of him from above, lying flat, just to be sure? (is it your monkey?). Really appreciate your effors

I'm afraid I have nothing constructive to add, only to say that it's absolutely lovely that you're doing this. Lost things are so strange - you always kind of dream they might turn up again. I think it would be so wonderful if you could do that for your DS!

HoVis2001 · 17/05/2014 21:40

OP - could it possibly be the monkey on the far right of the picture at the top of this site?

HoVis2001 · 17/05/2014 21:43

Also you could keep an eye on this site?

Could this be it?

Onetwothreeoops · 17/05/2014 22:06

According to another website (not sure if I can name it) when Russ ceased trading a British company called Suki took over some of their designs. It might be worth emailing them to ask.

NorksEnormous · 17/05/2014 22:11

too dark maybe?

lovessummer · 17/05/2014 22:15

Norks- thanks for looking, but he's not the one. (Ours wasn't sitting and was smaller
Hovis- that jimby one looks close- but ours had straight legs and no white bits- but he's clearly in the same family! That other website looks interesting. Might be worth my emailing them. Thankyou
Onetwothree- thanks, gpod tip. Had seen reference to 'suki' but couldn't work out the connection
Will keep on...!

I once lost my childhood bear (had him since 6 weeks old) i cried and cried for months for him, i was devastated. Was about 6 months later that my mum asked me to get something from a junk cupboard in her bedroom and i opened the door and there he was staring straight at me! I was absolutely overjoyed and cried with happiness running to my mum shouting "I've found him, I've found orange!" Turns out my little sister had put him in there to (in her words) 'annoy me' Hmm and just forgot about him.

i have just passed him onto my 4 year old to look after for me now and so far he is doing a very good job! Even if he got lost now I'm mid-twenties i would be so upset.

my son has a favourite toy of his own and i know it would be hell in earth if he went missing.
really hope u find your monkey op. I can just imagine your sons face if u did, good luck!
