Morning girls xx

Feel like shit poo on a stick!!! Dont even know what that means properly....my lovely Nan used to say it to me when she felt poorly.

Uniform out - check. Bag packed - check. Child showered and only smelling a little like a teenage boy - check. Oh this has been a very long school break!!

Hopstheduck · 10/01/2012 08:12

shabs, I do feel for you - I was exactly the same at school. IQ of 139 and never did a minutes revision in my life! Drove my parents to despair. I was more interested in working than studying - had three part time jobs squeezed in around my a levels! I got average grades in the end- I do wish I had studied a bit more, could have easily got straight As! Probably why i can't handle revision now neither, never learned how to as a kid. I'm so close to getting a law degree now, but can't get through the last exam :(

Hopstheduck · 10/01/2012 08:13

As a kid, I felt like since I could pass without working, what was the point in working? So stupid!

shabbapinkfrog · 10/01/2012 08:25

That describes Tom perfectly. I know you will think I am lying but Tom was reading 90% of the Thomas the Tank Engine books by his 2nd birthday. He could read before he could talk properly. I have never had a child like him. He is so laid back it drives me mad........and then, about once a month he will have, what he calls, his 'mental moments.' He will sob and say he cant do the work.

He has gone off to school quite happily. Smelling good, teeth brushed etc etc - mind you it is only the first day Grin

Dan has never quite 'got' Tom. When he was 3 he wanted to know how to add up and was fascinated by the 9 times table. Dan, who was 19 then, used to look at him and say 'he is the weirdest kid I have ever met!!'

shabbapinkfrog · 10/01/2012 08:34

I have just made myself laugh so loud thinking about our Matty. He had no interest whatsoever in learning to read and write. The diagnosis that came from school after he died was that he was number and letter dyslexic!! He wrote (left handed) in a weird mirror image way. If you put a mirror against his writing you could get the gist of what it was about. He lived for PE, art and the girls at school Grin

I was never, ever worried about him....which is very weird because I wanted all my sons to do well academically. He used to say 'Oh Mam, I cant wead and I cant wite BUT I am gweat at dwawing, gweat at PE and I am a gweat kisser!!'

He lived every minute at 100 miles an hour. He laughed all day. He ran about like a mad man. Makes you wonder really doesn't it? Maybe the Matty Way is the right way - or should I say 'wight way.'

Hopstheduck · 10/01/2012 08:38

My dad always used to say to me I was so laid back it was a wonder I didn't fall over! I was a voracious reader too, used to spend hours at it, completed the school reading schemes years ahead, then exhausted the local library. Read the bible when I was 10 or 11, then moved on to Jilly Cooper My mum had to make sure I wasn't reading the ones with s-e-x in them! GrinGrin

I've tried to get my kids enthusiastic in the same way, but they aren't as interested. The dts are a little better, they are currently reading the Wimpy kids diaries which isn't too bad for 6yos.

Does he have an idea of what he wants to do when he is older, yet?

Hopstheduck · 10/01/2012 08:43

Wow, imagine - no girl would have been safe! Grin Such different boys! I've heard of the mirror writing thing, a friend's daughter has the same issue, they gave her special glasses to wear that helped her decipher what she was seeing. Now working in TV production / PR work, so doing very well.

shabbapinkfrog · 10/01/2012 09:24

Oh yes Tom has his whole future mapped out!!!

He wants to do video game design. Is also interested in advertising. Our local college do the course he wants. Then he has his eye on Bolton Uni...somehow those two words dont go well together LOL...Bolton Uni....sounds like a Peter Kay sketch. Its a brand new Uni in our local town. They have a 3 year course that is very appealing to him. He will also have no accomodation costs as it is a bus ride away. The course includes - game design, photography, how to make adverts and how to put the right music with them etc etc. He asked the Bolton Uni representative could he just go straight there now!!! He cannot wait to get there. He is taking what will end up as about 10 GCSE's, a B tech in French, and whatever else he can grab on the way.

I do have to keep fuelling enthusiasm with him though. Told him to take one GCSE in a subject that he loved but may not use again. Said that he needed lessons that weren't all academic. He picked Music and is so happy doing that. He has a voice coach once a week and is teaching himself the ocharina (wrong spelling I think) because he 'likes to be different.'

We are in for an interesting 'academic ride' with him!!

Shabs - he sounds brilliant! He will get there. Competitive world tho, he needs to keep pushing, and def needs to get good GCSEs. DH works in IT - he'd have loved to gone into that, but it is hard to get into, needed good grades, so he became a web developer after graduating instead.Took a while for him to get into that too actually!

It's spelt ocarina, and I've never heard anyone play it, def unusual! I wonder if he chose that via video games - it was featured in Zelda. I play flute, and clarinet, loved music when I was younger too.

I think DD is the least bright of mine, but she frequently surprises me though, and I do think she will do fine, even if she isn't ever going to be Oxbridge material! She is an ace cook and I kinda hope she will go down that route, cos I think she may have a talent for it, even if her palate is a bit crap atm! Tho she keeps alternating between wanting to be a chef and wanting to be an actress! Hmm
I found it really hard when the OT started talking about DS1 needing support in the workplace. He IS bright, but just doesn't process in a normal way. If you asked him to post a letter he'd just as soon try to fetch the letterbox to the mail as take the mail to the letterbox!

The DTs want to be city bankers so they can work in canary wharf and earn lots of money GrinGrin

shabbapinkfrog · 10/01/2012 15:00

Yes that instrument was chosen because of Zelda. While his friends are playing on wii games that are all fighting games he has a ball playing on Zelda...yet another thing he gets teased about!!! He has researched all about how Zelda was made and came across how the music was developed for it and then found the orchestras playing the music on youtube. He saved for one of those ocarina thingeys (bit like a circular recorder??) and he can do a lot of the music from the game.

He is currently practising a Green Day song and a Coldplay song for the concert that will be performing shortly. The school are a performing arts & sports college and they have their own small theatre called..... The Peter Kay theatre Grin He was supposed to be singing an Olly Murr song and a Bruno Mars one but Im afraid to say his voice has 'broken' so much they have had to change the songs....suspect he will be doing a Barry White medely by the time the concert takes place LOL

shabbapinkfrog · 10/01/2012 15:01

The sound from the Ocarina is beautiful - much better than the dreaded recorder.

Hopstheduck · 10/01/2012 15:04

Grin @ Barry White.

Crazy isn't it. My ds1 is now playing Call of Duty and Grand Theft Auto because all his friends play it and i hate it. I wish he would play Zelda, I love that game! I'm very impressed that he can play coldplay and green day on an ocarina! I thought they had quite a limited range.

Hopstheduck · 10/01/2012 15:05

Recorders are only 'orrible when they are being screeched down by 6 year olds! I can play the recorder perfectly nicely Grin Though the ocarina sounds more like a flute and is nicer than a recorder, I agree!

shabbapinkfrog · 10/01/2012 15:05
Hopstheduck · 10/01/2012 15:06

I want an ocarina now!!

Hopstheduck · 10/01/2012 15:08

That bloke is terrible at it, breathing all over the place

this girl is ace! That is another zelda tune.

shabbapinkfrog · 10/01/2012 15:08

No he cant play either of those on it LOL - we are just at Zelda music at this point!!

He is just singing at the moment....music teacher says your voice can be your instrument Hmm He said 'Miss just started laughing when I showed her the ocarina, then she patted me on the back and said 'Only you could do that Tom - never change' she is a bit odd Mum!!!' She was pleased that he had done something different.

triplets · 10/01/2012 15:22

Can`t be arsed to read back, what are you all on about, whats an ocarina??
Just been up to school pleading for the kids to have 2 days off for their b/day, H gets his ct scan result the day before..............whats 2 days when they are hardly ever off sick?

Hopstheduck · 10/01/2012 15:43

it's a musical instrument, trips, kinda like a short dumpy recorders.

Too right, shabs, he should be proud of being unique.

triplets · 10/01/2012 22:48

cheers.................does it sound like a recorder?
