Hi all,

Please help!!! Haven't slept in 2 nights thank you HMRC.

So they sent me a letter to be fair the letter was soft and seems me like a general asking nothing more. It states "we have information that suggests there might be another adult NAME MY EX linked to me or my address. Is everyone else's worded like this? It then asks me to provide an explanation of what my relationship is with my ex if he is my partner say so if he isn't please explain how I no him and what my relationship is. I then asks me to call them and if I can't provide as much information as I can I.e bills etc. All bills are in my name I was digging them all out yesterday and realised his name is still on my council tax :( I completely forgot to take him off OOPS. What I find weird they are askin for 6th April to 30th June I was even claiming benefits then and have only had benefits since August this year. The only benefit I get is child tax for his nursery costs I get nothing else at all.

My ex and I moved into my property last year I have been here nearly two ears now. He moved out last year November just after my son was born. He now lives back at his mums but only just within the last month or so. Please help I am absolutely petrified by this letter because he doesn't live here. He picks my son up 3 X a week and that's it.

This flat I rent my my uncle I have no tenancy agreement it isn't a legal requirement to. Sure I could get a letter but what an inconvenience. He lived here yes but hasn't for almost a year now. Why are they asking for 3 months worth of documents when I wasn't even claiming benefits then?

Please give me your thoughts guys!! Will be calling them tommorow wanted a heads up as to what I might expect.

Andrea,hi first of all try and gather all the info they're asking for, also if you can get some sort if proof that your ex doesn't live with you ie his council tax bill or a copy of it. They don't rush themselves and its worth sending anything they ask by recorded delivery and when you ring take the name if the person you're speaking to good luck .

AndreaC1 · 25/10/2015 11:01

Hi Morgan

There only asking me for my bank statements from April to June?? and any utility bills I have. I was even claiming benefits then? Even if he was living there then it wouldn't matter as I Had no benefits? U with me? I am so confused me like a dope left him on the council tax I didn't even think to be honest I can change that tommorow first thing anyway.

Just so scared it's making sick :(

What u think X

Morgani97 · 25/10/2015 11:23

Andrea, like I said just send what they've asked for,it doesn't matter that you wasn't claiming anything at the times they're asking for,is there anything else that your ex has to tie him in with the address he's living at and would you be able to send any proof to them. Please don't be scared,I've been in your shoes at the start of this year, everyone on this thread has a similar story so you're not on your own. Get your mp involved if necessary and also he CAB. If you can get a letter from your uncle and any proof that you alone pay rent in fact anything that shows an official paper trail if you get my meaning. As I said before they don't rush themselves so anything you send to them please get proof of posting if you can.

So I've now received a letter from HMRC saying I owe them £3057.80 in overpaid Tax Credits, even though it's 19weeks this Friday that I've had no payments & I'm still waiting on outcome of my mandatory reconsideration!!! Fuming!!!

Croy1985 · 27/10/2015 13:12

A1b2 what the hell are they playing at, it's bad enough that it's taken them so long to pay u but now this.
They can't expect u to pay them, when u get no money from them. Ur the second person that I've heard about saying about an overpayment, what the hell is wrong with the company.
It's only gonna get worse next year when they cut tax credits

A1b2C3d4E5f6 · 27/10/2015 13:41

Croy I have no idea!! I called Tax Credits and said why the hell have you sent me this letter? I said I haven't been paid for near on 19wks & that I'm still waiting for the mandatory reconsideration decision so what's going on? She said they have 6wks to make that decision so I've still got 2wks max and I know they're going to drag it right to the end of the 6wks!! It's going to be Christmas soon! How do you explain to little ones that they'll have no presents?!

Croy1985 · 27/10/2015 14:09

Are u getting any help as it's taking so long? How's ur landlord?
What do concentrix say when u speak to them

Morgani97 · 27/10/2015 14:32

A1b2 have you been to the citizens advice bureau? Or even your local mp. Without being too nosey why did they stop your money in the first place? Did you send all they asked for? It's absolutely disgusting that they get away with treating people this way.

A1b2C3d4E5f6 · 27/10/2015 15:33

My original letter was about somebody living with me. I sent them all documents they requested & waited 10wks for them to be returned. After 14wks I phoned and was told they wanted me to do the mandatory reconsideration as he told me a name which is my ex partner. I told him that he has a broadband subscription for this address in his name as he got the children an iPad and that's how he speaks to them through FaceTime etc..But the direct debit for the monthly bill comes from his bank which is registered at his address. He told me he was happy with that and to put it in a letter along with the mandatory reconsideration & send further documents and documents for the previous year which I did. That was 4weeks ago and I've hear nothing until this HMRC letter telling me I owe them over £3000!!! I've spoken to Tax Credits today and she said so far there's no update from Concentrix on my mandatory reconsideration and that they have 6weeks to process it.

Morgani97 · 27/10/2015 15:40

A1b,I had a similar experience to yours,I had a letter accusing me of living with someone,I shared a house with a male friend, they stopped my money for 14 weeks,I sent as much proof as I could which wasn't easy as no bills in my name I sent that many letters I've lost count then someone advised me to go to my mp as they apparently have a hotline to tax credits, this was after my mandatory reconsideration was rejected. I also sent an appeal in which I won. It's worth giving your mp a try fingers crossed for you.

LoubyLou123456 · 27/10/2015 15:47

incompetent idiots, god it will only get worse when there reduce them, its ok them saying "do more hours" but me having a child under a sg until 18 how can i when im his main carer. there be more having no choice but too give up work as be no point

Hawaiiturtle101 · 01/11/2015 12:05

I'm getting all my stuff together to post off this week as my deadline in the 13th November. As I don't know who they are saying is linked to me I don't know what my bills in my name show or my mobile phone bill lol. I've tippexed out my daughters mobile phone number as I have 2 numbers on my account as I don't want them ringing her. I'm due my next payment on the 11th November so hoping that still goes through..my daughters birthday too. So frustrating to have to do this and then sit and wait. I'm not ringing them till I need too..I've got better things to do and am.busy with work being self employed. I'm going to send what they asked minus divorce papers as I'm not divorced and see what happens. I'm still thinking it may be due to having another woman's tax credit renewal delivered in error to my house which I returned addressee unknown and then a second brown envelope came in August which again I sent back.

KatharineClifton · 01/11/2015 14:18

Make sure you send it signed for post Hawaii and double check it has been signed for. It's worth a phone call to check they have it on file. If it gets 'lost' and not put on their system they will automatically stop your TC's.

LoubyLou123456 · 01/11/2015 14:35

i had same saying living with someone, sent all info required and details of me sons names as was prob that as one is under diff name and ad opend bank account as turnd 18,i also explained the two mobile accounts linkd too meas i pay for both mine and me 17going on 18 son

Hawaiiturtle101 · 01/11/2015 15:28

Yes I will sent or all tracked. I've deleted the mobile phone numbers and written Daughter and Mine next to each amount on bill. I've also got my tv licence which I've photocopied as that's in my name too..gas and elec bill, water bill, council tax, isa saver account and 3 bank accounts and mortgage summary..not a full statement as I have to pay for that. Not happy that they will see my excessive paypal spending or my savings or money in from my parents and the childrens father as I'm lucky and he does pay for them which is allowed.

LoubyLou123456 · 01/11/2015 18:41

i just sent bills and highlighted items on statements as he said do that, said didnt matter if didnt have all stuff as i dnt keep out as long as on statements from bank as pay all bills through that way he said it shows in my name, although my lads catalogue goes out mine so highlihted that payment so knew

LoubyLou123456 · 01/11/2015 18:43

when i rang he askd what and were was money from out of my savings and when told them its whats transfered from my main account as can clearly see by statements in front if them by acc num he closd my case

Hawaiiturtle101 · 03/11/2015 17:43

Uuurgh dreading sending my stuff tomorrow as I can't be doing with the waiting and waiting for brown envelopes to drop through my letter box. I'm sending it recorded delivery and it will be there before the 13th which is the deadline.

A1b2C3d4E5f6 · 04/11/2015 13:35

So this morning I've had an enforcement officer at the door for my unpaid council tax that I fell behind on due to all this. He's listed goods to take if I don't pay up by the end of the month. Still no word from Concentrix. Will be 20weeks Friday that I've not had a penny in tax credits.

KatharineClifton · 04/11/2015 14:30

OMG A1b, I'm so sorry. I assume you've phoned the council and told them why you've not paid them? I guess they don't care. I can't remember without scrolling back, have you spoken to your MP?
