7th miscarriage looming..........

oinker · 28/02/2008 11:28

I had a scan yesterday which confirmed my worst fears.
Beanies HB slow and not correct size for gestation. This has happened so many times know.
I already take heparin and two baby aspirin.
Hospital refuse to put me on steroids because of my BMI.
I have alresdy lost so much weight to rule out my weight being an issue. I lost over 5st bringing me down to 13st.
I don't know what else to do.
I want to call it day and get my head around the fact I will never be a mum.
I really can't be bothered to go through this again. Nothing bloody works. The recurrent m/c clinic would quite happily just have me going through this time and time again. They are not actually doing anything to help. They have nothing more to offer me. What is the point on carrying on just for more failure?
I am at the clinic run by Lesley REAGAN in paddington. If they can't help no-one
can.
I can't keep doing this.....

oh oinker - so very sorry - no advice to give but just a big virtual hug xxxxx

Dropdeadfred · 28/02/2008 11:32

I'm really sorry to hear this.
As a coincidence I saw your name YESTERDAY from msgs about recurrent miscarriage last year, whilst i was searching old threads yesterday.
I have had 6mcs but I do have children. I have been told there is no explanantion for my mcs...have you?

If you thik you can survive more potential heartache then don't give up yet...if I had my DP would not have bcome a father..

oinker · 28/02/2008 11:39

I am on clexane and baby aspirin.

I have thick blood and this is waht they have prescribed.
It's just not working.

i havr had 3 D&C's which all came back as normal. They just say the results were normal and that there is always a possibility that it could be my bits they have examined and not beanies. Apparently it is very difficult to distinguish betweeen the two.
I have told them I will wait for nature to take its toll this time. I really do not want to go under anaesthetic again.
I have another scan booked for Tuesday. This will confirm what we are expecting. It'll be a waiting game from then on.

Dropdeadfred · 28/02/2008 11:46

Thats so sad..is there any other meds they can give you for the blood ?

Personally I hav only had one d & C and let nature take it's course the other times..

Have you seen Lesley Reagan herself? Has she any positive outcome stories of cases similar to yours?

Julezboo · 28/02/2008 15:16

oh oinker

Im so sorry you are going through this again.

I have had 6mc's myself so I do know what you are going through.

Like PP said can you request to see lesley reagen herself?

Just wondering when are you starting the heparin and aspirin?

OracleInaCoracle · 28/02/2008 15:22

oh oinker, my love. I am so so sorry. its shit and horrible and fucked up. i wish i could help you. agree, see if you can see LR herself I had my 7th consecutive mc last month and it broke my heart CAT me if you need to chat xx

oinker · 28/02/2008 16:12

I have seen lesley Reagan and to be quite honest with you she wasn't much help!
She was in company with another prof Etienne Horner (really nice guy). She basically told me to loose weight. She suggested I get an exercise bike or treadmill, place it infront of TV and exercise
No other advise given. She inplied that m/c's were to do with my weight.
Anyway, went away, lost 5 stone got pregnant and went back. Saw Etienne on his own. He was astounded by weight loss but insisted this was nothing to do with m/c's. He said weight is an issue if you can't conceive only. Obviously he was happy as this meant I would be able to have an easier and healthier pregnancy cos of the weight loss.

There is a big hype regarding Lesley Reagan. From expereince I don't think she is that involved with the clinic anymore. I mean she was on BBC 2 HORIZON the other night. It was about organic and the hype around high street products claiming to do things they don't.
Next week she is guest speaker at a works annual meeting talking about womens health I know she has to do other stuff but it's seems as though she has done all she can at St Marys and now just lets the others get on with it.

Julezboo · 28/02/2008 16:38

oinker do you start the heparin around 6 weeks?

Im only saying becasue for 3 of my losses i did start heparin after 6 weeks once they knew preg was in the right place and it did no good. With DS and this one I started at 4 weeks and it worked...

Worth a try maybe Im soo sorry for you having to go through this again xx

oinker · 28/02/2008 17:09

Julze....

I start as soon as I get a positive. So I have started between day 24 and 28.

I have done some research on Prendisolone (steroid) this is going to sound totally mad...
I am considering self medicating
There are many women that take it from ovulation through to week twelve. Studies show an 80% sucess rate...

AM I MAD ????

OP posts:
OracleInaCoracle · 28/02/2008 17:30

oinker, please don't self medicate. you could do yourself some serious damage. ive been told that heparin/baby asprin wont help me because my bloods are fine, and its more likely to be a chromosonal glitch. however I do think you should print off your research, go back to the clinic and insist on trying the steroids. its not fair and you shouldnt have to do this!

herbaceous · 28/02/2008 17:44

Hi Oinker. Came when you called me in the TTC1 for ever thread!

So sorry you're having to go through it all again. It's the most life-sapping thing on earth, and I can quite imagine why you want to give up. So, frankly, do I.

I got put on prendisolone by Dr Shehata, at the Miscarriage c
Clinic, who reckoned I had elevated killer cell count. It's a controversial treatment, and lots don't believe it does any good, but I don't think it actually does any harm. I miscarried anyway, at 11 weeks, but due to chromosonal problems. So couldn't tell you if the pills did any good or not...

oinker · 28/02/2008 19:08

Herbaceous

Thanks for getting back to me.

I was trying to work out how many tests you had done whilst at the clinic. Is it expensive to go private? I have no private medical cover which incorporates pregnancy
I assume you have had all the blood tests etc. I have had them done too.
What test did they do for the NKS? How did they come to the decision to give you steroids?

I am totally desparate.

LL

They will not budge on this..

They are being total F**RS!!!

I will try again on tuesday after my scan.

Dear Oinker,

I am so sorry to hear that you are going through this again. I can not begin to imagine the pain and disappointment.

A friend recommended this guy: -

"Mr George Ndukwe - FRCOG Consultant Gynaecologist

George is a highly experienced infertility specialist. He is particularly interested in recurrent implantation failure and is responsible for the introduction of immunology therapy at CARE to improve implantation and pregnancy rates in women with repeated treatment failure"

Please see www.carefertilityweb.co.uk/locations/nottingham/nott_people.php apparently he has a very good success rate for recurrent miscarriage.

I think he is quite big on the NKS theory. Hope this helps.

Take carex

NomDePlume · 28/02/2008 19:22

How very sad. I'm so sorry oinker

OracleInaCoracle · 28/02/2008 19:39

they are bastards oinker. i am going back up to LWH on the 31st and have to insist that they do something

can you try a different doctor?

oinker · 28/02/2008 19:55

I was at Queen Charlottes in London and got peed of with them...Long story

I went back to my GP and got him to refer me to St Marys. Obviousely, I had heard that Prof Reagan was a miracle worker so was determined to go there. It took six week to get to see her.
The rest is history...

Anyway..Herbaceous another question?
How many milogrammes of prendisolone did you take a day?
Was it from ovulation to end of week twelve?

Sorry to keep on.........

OP posts:
oinker · 28/02/2008 20:16

Just found a site where I can buy them here
60 5mg tabs only 20.99........

I am starting to get nervous now. I didn't realise it would be so easy to buy...
Apparently it's also used for asthma and skin conditions of which I have one...
I have pityriasis lichenoides chronica... not nice. I have actually taken a steroid treatment for it before...Didn't have any side effects....

OMG...Am I really going to do this....

Has anyone ever self medicated?

OP posts:
Julezboo · 28/02/2008 20:17

oinker theres a doctor in the LWH hospital where lissie is being seen, he specialises in the NK tests, maybe worht a visit up there (and being from liverpool its a lovely place to visit)

Im sorry I do hope they can do something for you and the bastards give you the steroids!

CantSleepWontSleep · 28/02/2008 20:24

I'm so sorry Oinker.
Please tell them that you are going to self-medicate if they can't come up with something else - might at least make them sit up and take notice.

For the record, pred can have side effects, including weight gain, so please do be careful if you follow this path. I took it (unrelated to ttc) for a year, and was very very ill and gained lots of weight (from a mixture of the pred and the drug that caused me to need the pred, so I can't distinguish exactly which caused what).

Wishing you the very best outcome possible.

AitchTwoOh · 28/02/2008 20:26

oinker and all of you lovely ladies, i'm sorry for your pain and your losses. i hope for better, kinder outcomes in the future for you all.

OracleInaCoracle · 28/02/2008 20:29

my consultant is Mr Farquharrson, and he's lovely. They do the NKcells tests, costs £550 but if there is a problem then they prescribe steroids

OracleInaCoracle · 28/02/2008 20:30

hi aitch, not seen you for ages

AitchTwoOh · 28/02/2008 20:35

i've been keeping an eye on your embra plans, i'm only an hour a way in glasgow. you'll have to come through for the shopping, it's sheeeeeet in the capital.

OracleInaCoracle · 28/02/2008 21:15

have messaged you on facebook!

so sorry oinker. where in the uk are you? would it be possible to get to LWH for an NK cells test? they are the only hospital in the uk to do it?
