So sorry for all of your losses, it's sad to see so many people joining this thread but I hope you find it as supportive a place as I have.

@Lulumam I think it isn't that uncommon for a MC to be extended over that period of time. It could be that you hadn't passed everything before. Did you have a scan after the MC to check if it was complete? If not I would advise calling your GP or EPU as they should scan you after a miscarriage to make sure there are no retained products.

I hope everyone is holding up ok and sending you all positive thoughts.

PrettySad · 13/06/2021 18:48

@Lulumam I had something very similar happen to me, approximately a week after my miscarriage occurred, sorry if TMI but I was sat on the toilet- just a wee - I felt something large slip out on its own, no pain, I heard it make a plop noise in the toilet, I was terrified to look, it was large, a mixture of a blood clot and something grey, I googled a lot that everything and it says everywhere if it's grey it's usually foetal tissue 😞 I took a photo to show my sonographer but I never did I was too shocked by it. Xx

Lulumam · 14/06/2021 06:33

Thanks @AlbiMix and @PrettySad for your replies x

@AlbiMix my EPAU doesn’t routinely do follow up scans after mc. Only if I have a positive test after three weeks do I need to have one and then possible d&c. I do suspect my mc has taken a while to come away as bleed has been lighter since Saturday night but still constant bleed so it’s not quite done yet.
@PrettySad this sounds very similar to me - no pain at all. Mine was more very dark red than grey but it was just how huge and heavy it was that shocked me as well as it feeling a bit like a scene from alien when it came out in the shower. It’s reassuring to know it’s not just me and sadly seems another one of those awful things we have to go through when mc. I just wish we were told upfront things like this could happen as it was the shock of it that upset me most I think. Thanks for sharing x

Hi everyone,

I know this is an older thread but I am new on here as I need some advice and similar stories! I'm sorry for everyone's losses ❤️

I came off the pill last July after being on it for 10 years and I fell pregnant on my fourth cycle. I suffered a miscarriage on the 4th of January. I believed I was 11 weeks pregnant however when the hospital scanned me they said it looks as though it was more like 7 weeks. I got a negative pregnancy test and stopped bleeding after three weeks and thought that was the end of it but I didn't feel myself. I pushed for the hospital to see me and it was confirmed I had retained pregnancy tissue so I had to be booked in for surgical management on the 17th of March.

It's been nearly 13 weeks since my operation and I still haven't had a period! Has anyone else ever had the same thing?

Just to add, when I miscarried because they said I was only 7 weeks I was advised I would just have heavy bleeding but I passed large pieces of tissue sorry TMI!

Just concerned something isn't right as it has been so long and they asked me if I had regular periods before my pregnancy. I had a period in august, September and October then found out I was pregnant so i would say that's pretty regular!

WildflowerPetals · 14/06/2021 09:48

@im2sad No, I've not had any bloods since the MMC, they've just said there's nothing they can do after 2 so I guess I'll just wait. It might just be really bad luck but I'm just worried I can't carry after a certain gestation. I've heard aspirin is one of the first things they suggest after having 3 MC's though so next pregnancy me and DH have decided we'll try that.

@MrsFLongbottom So sorry you find yourself here. Hope you're doing okay

@PrettySad It's nice the EPU did a little memory box for you, it sounds lovely. MC is definitely one of the hardest things to go through, especially when you don't know why it happened. It does make you feel robbed and questioning why you - just know that these are all normal feelings but it will get better.

@Kele94 Sorry for your loss. Have you contacted your GP/EPU to let them know you haven't had a period yet? 13 weeks seems like an awfully long time. With my first MMC mine took 7 weeks to come back and I thought that was long! I was just over 7 weeks with both MMC's (should've been 12) and with both I had large clots and heavy bleeding so I'd say that's normal. I think it's because with MMC's your womb lining can continue to grow so that's why there's more clots than what there would be for a "normal" MC at 7 weeks.

Has anyone felt really tired after their MC? It's 2 weeks tomorrow since mine and the last few days I've been feeling SO tired. I was going to get up early this morning, as I go back to work Wednesday so wanted to get myself used to it, but I literally couldn't wake up, I just kept falling back asleep. Usually when I'm up, I can't go back to sleep but even now I feel like I could just fall back to sleep. I wondered if it could be something to do with low iron? I've also been getting migraines every other day so don't know if that has any relevance.

Lulumam · 14/06/2021 09:56

@WildflowerPetals so sorry for your loss. I suffer with hormonal migraines so it might be your hormones are giving you such bad heads. Do you have any prescribed medication for them? If not, contact your GP as normal pain relief won’t touch it and it’s not fair to suffer so often!

And I’d say your tiredness could very possibly be linked to low iron levels after your loss. I was advised to take an iron supplement by another mama on here and it seemed to so the trick. Do t get me wrong my energy levels are still lower than normal but I think that will right itself once I stop the bleed.

@Kele94 I’d definitely seek advice as your periods seem regular beforehand to me. Can I ask how you knew you might have retained tissue in you that led to your later d&c?

MrsFLongbottom · 14/06/2021 10:51

Thanks @WildflowerPetals I’m sorry you’re here too. I’m finding it really hard at the minute just waiting; they wouldn’t offer any kind of treatment yet and left me with just a tiny sliver of hope so I keep half thinking it’ll be fine which is silly.

I hope your tiredness eases off soon- it probably is worth getting your iron levels checked as @Lulumam it could be that.

Kele94 · 14/06/2021 10:58

@WildflowerPetals @Lulumam so sorry for your losses xxx

The reason I knew I retained pregnancy tissue was because although I was getting a negative pregnancy test, I was seeing a slight tinge of pink in my cervical mucus and I just didn't feel myself. At one point I was convinced I had a urine infection so I just knew something wasn't right.

Two weeks ago I honestly thought I was ovulating as I had all of the symptoms and two weeks later I have no signs of my period and I'm getting a negative pregnancy test it's so frustrating.

The one thing that is bugging me is that when I had the scans where they confirmed I retained pregnancy tissue, they said my ovaries appeared Polycystic but I didn't have any other symptoms to meet the criteria for PCOS. Four staff members reassured me I have nothing to worry about but now I'm thinking, my periods haven't returned so maybe I do have it?

Having bloods done Wednesday so I hope I'll finally have some answers.

@WildflowerPetals I suffered with migraines and tiredness after my miscarriage but I honestly just put it down to feeling low and stressed/upset. If you're concerned deffo give your doctor a call.

All I can advise anyone is if you feel your body isn't right or something is up, push for your doctors to see you even if they tell you to leave it a few weeks/months. Something I wish I did sooner because 6 months on from my miscarriage I feel as though I can't move on because of the issues I'm having xxx

Lulumam · 14/06/2021 12:19

@Kele94 thanks for sharing and so sorry you find yourself in this predicament - not really knowing whether you have PCOS or not.

I’ll definitely look out for the signs you mentioned even if I get a negative test as I feel my body is struggling to clear the pregnancy as I started bleeding two weeks before I properly miscarried and two weeks on I’m still bleeding enough to fill a super pad every day. That means it’s already been four weeks and counting….

I just want it to be over so I can try again. Time really isn’t on my side and I’m so very conscious of this…. I can’t help feeling this pregnancy was my last chance for my partner and I to have a baby of our own.

Anyone else feeling despondent today? Sad

Lulumam · 14/06/2021 12:26

@MrsFLongbottom I’ve been there with the ‘maybe your dates are wrong’ and ‘this pregnancy could go either way’ type of conversations with Doctors and nurses. I really hope yours does work out better but if not we are all here to support you x

MrsFLongbottom · 14/06/2021 12:35

@Lulumam thank you- I’ve been lightly bleeding since Thursday with some clots so I’m sure it’s only going one way but just want some more solid confirmation either from my body or the docs.

I’m sorry you are still experiencing bleeding too, the loss feels bad enough without having to deal with the physical symptoms for such a long time. I hope it settles for you soon xx

BaaBaaEmily · 14/06/2021 13:08

Hi everyone, sorry for all the new people joining us, hope you're all ok as you can be.

I'm 7 weeks post surgical management of mmc, and had retained tissue so had additional medical management 4 weeks ago. I've stopped bleeding and the last time I tested (around 2 weeks ago) I had the faintest line and didn't test again as I assumed it would have gone by now. I've done a test today as we've decided not to wait for a period and now I have the faintest line on the pg test but no idea if it's still from the mmc or a new pregnancy (I get this is why they say to wait!), so going to test again in a few days and hopefully it will be darker, but has anyone else had similar? I think my cycles have resumed but I'm now also on day 10 of ewcm which is what prompted me to test, so if it is a new pregnancy I'd only be about 5dpo so assuming it may be some leftover still 😭

Kele94 · 14/06/2021 13:50

@Lulumam thank you! So you've been bleeding for 4 weeks and still doesn't seem to be easing? Have you taken a pregnancy test?

I bled for 4 weeks in total the first 3 days really heavy and horrible contractions. Then nearly four weeks in I felt as though I needed to run to the toilet and passed a large piece of pregnancy tissue and that's when my bleeding started to stop and then I got my negative test. However then I noticed the slight discolouration in my cervical mucus so if the same sort of thing has happened to you but the bleeding isn't stopping then definitely push to have a scan to be on the safe side and then they can tell you the options you have.

I just wouldn't want anyone to be left as long as me as it's mentally draining.

I wish you all the best and sending you baby dust xxx

WildflowerPetals · 14/06/2021 16:11

@Lulumam I've suffered with migraine's since I was young but I've never been prescribed anything for them as they aren't as bad as they used to be, but recently I'm getting them more frequently again. If they don't ease this week then I'll ring my GP. DH is picking up some iron tablets for me on his way home so hopefully that'll help my tiredness 😊 Just read your other posts - I was told if I was still bleeding after 3 weeks to ring the EPU. Maybe try ringing yours for advice as it doesn't seem right you're still bleeding so much after 4 weeks.

@MrsFLongbottom I was in the same position as you after my first MMC, was told I might have my dates wrong and given a bit of hope. I know how horrible the wait is as you just want to know one way or another. I hope all works out for you.

@Kele94 Maybe speak to your GP about your periods and mention that you've been told your ovaries appear polycystic, I'd have thought the least they would do is some bloods to try find out what's going on.

@BaaBaaEmily Sorry I can't really offer any advice other than to wait and see what your next pg test looks like. If it's darker or the same next time you test then speak to your EPU and see if they can offer you a scan.

PrettySad · 14/06/2021 18:24

Is anyone here waiting for your period to start? How do you feel about it? I'm worried the sight of blood is going to trigger the PTSD I carry from my miscarriage.... it has been exactly 4 weeks since the miscarriage am I being naive thinking it'll start any day now? xx

Kele94 · 14/06/2021 18:29

@WildflowerPetals I've managed to push for the Hospital to book me in for an emergency appointment Thursday for a scan so hopefully I'll have some answers then. Got blood tests Wednesday too so I pray it's nothing bad xx

graciepoo · 14/06/2021 19:23

I started miscarrying 9 days ago and it looks like I’m just about done. If my spotting ends, I can call my doctor and get a blood test to confirm my HCG levels are down. If not, I need to go see her in person.

I really just want to start being intimate with my husband again. Yes I want to try and conceive again, but to be honest, he has been the most amazing supportive partner during all of this, I just want him, haha. Sorry, TMI.

Lulumam · 14/06/2021 22:03

Thanks @Kele94 and @WildflowerPetals I’ll call EPU this week and see what they say although it definitely seemed lighter today so I’m hoping what I passed over the weekend was the end as you’re right @kele94 this is draining already so i can’t imagine it going on as long as yours!

@MrsFLongbottom thanks for your kind words. I really hope you get the answer you need soon x

@wildflowerpetals if you do speak to your GP about migraines and want any advice regarding meds happy to try to help if I can! I must say one benefit to being pregnant with as not having migraines!

AlbiMix · 15/06/2021 16:20

Hi all and sorry to hear some of you are having this drag out so much. @Kele94 you're so right about pushing to make sure you get everything checked out but it's exhausting, it shouldn't be necessary for us to push, we should just be properly cared for!

@Lulumam I can't believe they won't scan to confirm your MC is complete, I thought that was standard! I keep getting more and more shocked at how awful women are treated during MC.

@WildflowerPetals I do remember sleeping a lot after my MC , tbh I was glad because I hadn't been sleeping that well before. I really needed the rest, I think my body was just drained. Does your work know why you've been off? If you're struggling with tiredness maybe you could just let them know so they won't come down on you if you need to settle in gently?

MrsFLongbottom · 15/06/2021 18:57

@DotyHope I’ve just been looking back at the thread for advice/others experiences and saw your post about a dermoid cyst. I had one that had gotten quite large (8x5x7cm I think) which was discovered in my first pregnancy. I’ve had it removed and am happy to be chat to you about it if you have any questions as I know they’re not super common and can sound scary xx

Lulumam · 15/06/2021 19:26

@AlbiMix I called today and was told I need to give it another week and then if I have a positive test to call back. To be honest if I’m still losing then, even if it’s only a smidgen, I’ll insist on a scan.

graciepoo · 15/06/2021 20:26

First day back at work and I’m crying at my desk. I’m so heartbroken.

MrsFLongbottom · 15/06/2021 21:13

@graciepoo oh I’m so sorry you’ve had such a hard day. I’ve no advice really, just it’s so rubbish. I hope it gets a bit easier for you there as time passes xx

Lulumam · 15/06/2021 22:24

@graciepoo I started back at work this week too and have found it tough. I’m still bleeding but only lightly and it’s hard trying to pretend all is ok when there is a reminder it’s not every time I pop to the toilet…. Thinking of you

WildflowerPetals · 16/06/2021 17:20

@PrettySad I'm 2 weeks post MC so I know my period won't start any time soon, last MC my period show up until 7 weeks after. Did you have any ovulation symptoms? If you did you might be able to work out a rough period date from that. Unfortunately you'll only really know how well (or not) you'll cope with it when it arrives. Hope you're doing okay.

@Kele94 I'm glad you've managed to get booked in for a scan and blood, hope all goes as well as it can.

@graciepoo I totally understand wanting to be intimate with your partner again, I feel the same with my DH. Also, sorry you've had a tough time at work, I hope they're being supportive.

@Lulumam Seems daft they're making you wait another week when you've already been bleeding for so long. Thanks for offering to help regarding migraine meds, I'll keep it in mind if I do speak my GP.

@AlbiMix I slept a lot in the week immediately after my MC, and I agree with you, I think our bodies just need that extra rest after going through a trauma. Work know why I've been off, I work for the NHS and they've been really supportive. I went back today after 2 weeks off and they were lovely about everything :)
