Sorry longest meant to say thanks for your reply, I'm still dithering but I don't think the vit b6 and c did much last time I tried it, so I'm tempted to try the angus castus instead.

fififolle · 02/06/2015 17:32

Patience I saw a consultant privately after my 2nd MC in April. He told me that the latest research advised against daily aspirin as apparently in 10% of cases it can cause early MC. So many other people I saw around the time advised to take it- it's all so confusing.
I'm currently TTC again and taking omega 3 supplements along side my antenatal vitamins as apparently they have some anticoagulant effect.

Justonemoretime · 02/06/2015 18:08

Patience, maybe see if you can get heparin instead? It has the benefits of aspirin without the risks. I agree that its not a good idea to take it 'just in case'; I took it pre conception for #3 and miscarried a turner's syndrome baby. I will never know whether there was a connection (messing up lining and allowing dodgy egg to implant), but I'd avoid it if I were you. The problem is, the official advice has yet to be updated with RMC, and the research saying avoid aspirin is still very new. However, it can help if you have a diagnosed clotting disorder, so if that's the case, it may be an appropriate treatment for you in your particular case.

loopy - so sorry to hear your news. Big hugs hun. Really hope you can get some answers to your questions soon.

sally - really pleased your scan went well today. Hopefully you'll have the bloods back soon and everything will be fine.

patience - the aspirin debate is so confusing! Really wish they would decide one way or the other. I had completely mixed advice too.

x

patienceisvirtuous · 02/06/2015 19:07

Thanks for all the insights re aspirin. I only started taking it after BFP (on Sunday) so three now. Think I will stop and discuss with my gp next week...

bythesea82 · 02/06/2015 19:49

loopy I am sorry to hear Flowers

ThePopAndCry · 02/06/2015 20:16

Sooooo behind! Have been away and now back at the chalkface so have missed loads. No way I can catch up now so... Welcome to the newbies and waves to the rest of you.

loopy I am sorry to hear your news. x

ThePopAndCry · 02/06/2015 20:35

BTW...

Have been reading lots of info about supplements, treatments and causes on here:

sites.google.com/site/miscarriageresearch/

Seems like a useful site and lots to read. I'm not very scientific, though, so don't know how valid the studies are. Also sometimes the reseacrh presented seems contradictory but then maybe that just reflects all the different advice we get! x

BunnyMad · 02/06/2015 20:58

Thanks Sun and Cloud for the advice, will try to be a bit more forceful and get some answers.

So sorry to hear your bad news Loopy, you are having such a rough time. Hopefully the tests will shed some more light on things.

Great news about your scan Sally

Can I ask Brummie, what is the cough medicine for?

Wadsy · 02/06/2015 20:59

Oh Loopy, I'm so sorry. Flowers

Sally Great news!

Sorry for the short post but I'm leaving for my in-laws at 6am and I've done no packing!

Scan went well today, baby measuring bang on dates - 6 weeks 4 days with a heart beat. Basking in (no doubt) short lived relaxation! Thanks for all your support x

barkingtreefrog · 02/06/2015 21:10

patience sorry, I should have mentioned, I do have a diagnosed clotting disorder (factor v leiden thrombophilia) so one consultant was saying it was worth taking for this reason, the other said it wasn't worth the potential risk.

I've just realised my phone has autocorrected agnus to angus every time I've typed it! Yep, I'm going to take some beef pills... Hmm

barkingtreefrog · 02/06/2015 21:11

Great news Wadsy Grin

Interesting read Pop. I have no idea what's wrong with me at this stage but it gives me a bit of insight.

Does anyone know if I can get a good 5mg Folic acid over the counter? I have a BMS over 30 and read that I should be taking it rather than the 400microg prescribed. Getting a doc appointment is pain so was hoping I could miss it out and get it over the counter.

MorganLeFey · 02/06/2015 22:03

No - it's not available over the counter at 5mg. I'm taking 5 normal dose tabs at the mo. for 2mg but need to add asking for 5mg on prescription to my to do list...

MorganLeFey · 02/06/2015 22:10

On the aspirin controversy I am on 75mg a day pre conception as that's the standard advice for everyone at Mr S NHS clinic. BUT - if my thrombophilia screen comes back clear then might be tempted to pause around potential implantation times then restart.

As I understand it both low and high BMI are associated with increased rates of miscarriage. But difficult to know whether this is the BMI itself or that it might reflect other conditions that are also associated with MC (e.g. thyroid abnormalities/PCOS etc.). Obviously for an individual person things might not fit the general pattern each time - my first MC was same weight as the healthy pregnancy. Also that although PCOS is traditionally thought of as a fertility issue there's more now about a link to MC too - although not much about what the causative abnormality is or how to fix it! Metformin (a diabetes drug) has some evidence in the insulin resistance/metabolic syndrome that often goes alongside it though.

MorganLeFey · 02/06/2015 22:15

I'm finding it hard to keep anxiety in check at the moment - keep thinking I've had my blighted ovum & MMCs (probably because of something wrong with me as normal histology & chromosomes on the last) so if i get pregnant again it'll be ectopic, molar or chromosomally abnormal as i'm due that too... Sad

Loopy - sorry to hear of more uncertainty.

Sunandrainbow · 02/06/2015 22:22

wadsy - yay for good scan!

longestlurkerever · 02/06/2015 22:32

Catlover2014 · 02/06/2015 22:47

Hugs to Loopy so sorry about your bloods. This journey is just shit at times, so unfair. Hope stepping away and taking some time out for you can help. We're all here for you whenever you want to offload. XxX

Jady77 · 02/06/2015 22:48

Great news Wadsy and Sally!!

On the high bmi subject. My midwife has asked me to get aspirin 75mg prescribed from 13 weeks (after heparin stops) and 5mg folic acid as of now (although seems a bit late in the day to start now) . I'll email prof quenby just to confirm she's ok with the aspirin since letter only mentions it not being recommended in the early stages. Bunny I'm just going to ask for telephone consultation for prescription then pick it up, could you do similar?

Hugs Morgan, the only thing your due is a cute little baby to take home.

BunnyMad · 02/06/2015 22:50

Thanks for the info Morgan

Sorry to hear you are so anxious. I feel the same. Had 2 miscarriages and even though I am not pregnant yet (still waiting for AF) I am already thinking about the testing I will have to go for when I mc again. I know in your intro that you said you were getting tested and had Private app with gynaecologist but missed the results. Did you find anything specific for the reasons for your losses? If not, then that is probably good news as you don't have any obvoius reasons that you will mc again. If your results showed up something then you can start looking into how to treat this. Hugs to you Flowers
