A Manchester Meet up?

MerlinsBeard · 08/02/2010 11:08

Seems there a few Manchester MNers who would like a meet up.

I know the SHineys are having one but feels wrong to gate crash if we haven;t posted!!

I am not volunteering to organise one, just starting a thread so other people can

I am far to lazy and likely to change my mind to do that!!

I am desperate to see what you all look like now.

MrsChemist · 09/03/2010 22:35

There will be other meet-ups nickschick, worry not

I'm ashamed to admit that I have never been to Heaton Park and I live about 10 minutes away.

nickschick · 09/03/2010 22:37

Ive only been to heaton park twice.
Im really gonna try and get to the next one ...did you all wear boden?

AnyFucker · 09/03/2010 22:41

I didn't see any Boden (not that I would recognise it, tbh)

all pretty normal, as far as I could see

nickschick · 09/03/2010 22:46

I myself was sporting Tesco

suwoo · 10/03/2010 07:29

Ahem, my DS's were wearing Boden especially. Twas New look for me .

MrsC, I can't believe you have never been to Heaton Park- shame on you

You still coming to toddlers on Thursday?

AF, I don't find the Arndale as rough as it used to be but I only hang around in the new bit. I much prefer town to the Trafford Centre.

MrsChemist · 10/03/2010 08:54

Aye aye, I will be there

I only hang around the new bit of the Arndale as well, but I avoid it like the plague on the weekend because I end up hulking out.
Trafford Centre is a bit too far away for me.

bilblio · 10/03/2010 09:57

Heaton Park is really nice Mrs C. It has healthy looking animals

Actually after critcising all parks round here I remembered Hyde Park is really good. More importantly the cafe there is really really good!
It's run as a job placement for people with learning disabilities. The food is Fantastic, and very cheap too. I'm sure they'd be very happy for us all to descend on them.
They run kids activities during the holidays too.

I definitely wasn't wearing Boden. Having thought about it I realised everything bar my boots and undies was either from a charity shop, or passed on from a friend.
DD's attire was slightly more expensive being a combination of George, Tesco and charity shop

MrsChemist · 10/03/2010 10:05

Didn't know it had animals.
I'm ashamed to admit that I just imagine it as a massive field.

suwoo · 10/03/2010 10:09

And two parks

bilblio · 10/03/2010 10:35

Oh no Mrs Chemist, there's loads, a small farm (I like the alpacas) a "train", HUGE lake with boats you can hire. There's bikes to hire too with things on the back to pull kids along.
A cafe (not as nice as the one at Hyde Park though).

We've only been a couple of times so I suspect there's loads we've not seen.

suwoo · 10/03/2010 11:08

I was there yesterday. You know there are two very near tram stops too MrC.

We went to see the animals and fed the ducks. Our favourite thing to do there (even miserable DH) is to feed the squirrels, they are tame and eat nuts from your hand.

suwoo · 10/03/2010 11:10

I meant MrsC of course, I wasn't talking to your DH

littlesez · 10/03/2010 12:54

ewww do you remember the old arndale orrible it was. I think cannon street had the accolade (sp?) of ugliest street in Britain. It smelt of a mixture of sick, piss and meat. Its much better now. Saying that i hate shopping anyway I send my hubby out to do it

MrsChemist · 10/03/2010 17:35

Hmmm... I may have to investigate if the weather stays nice. DS has just started noticing animals. He stares in amazement at the cat, though the cat wisely stays out of reach.

Bet he would be blown away by ducks and squirrels, let alone farm animals

hairymelons · 10/03/2010 20:43

Mrs C, the animals bit is really nice. There's a lovely play area next to the donkey field too.
It would be nice to try a few different parks out over the summer. A bit fairer to meet in different parts too I spose.
littlesez, I remember very clearly the stink of the meat and fish market in the arndale. It's still stuck in my throat.

dawntigga · 11/03/2010 11:22

YanknCock have you got a link to the swimming lessons for your baby?????

WouldVMuchLikeToCutDownOnCostsTiggaxx

MrsChemist · 11/03/2010 12:12

I'm off to Heaton Park today!

Su, thanks for telling me about the toddler group, it was really great I'm sorry I was a bit greasy and unkempt, was very sleepy.
Should be there again next week

notevenamousie · 11/03/2010 12:31

Not been to Heaton Park since before I seperated - is further, but worth it, and DD might be up to the play areas now.

My DD managed not just most but ALL of her motor milestones in pursuit of the cat (now deceased, sadly).

Think I have the d+v bug and dd still not eating and tonsils huge again and my medical degree worth nothing with my own....

Hope will be back to work on Mon and look forward to meeting you all, whenever possible, honest,...

suwoo · 11/03/2010 13:43

MrsC, I didn't even notice, we were too busy looking at the babies interecting, bless 'em.

Glad you liked it, hope you are enjoying Heaton Park right now.

YanknCock · 11/03/2010 16:51

dawntigga, this is where the Swim-a-song thingy is. However, from next week they are only doing block bookings and the new session is going up till July. They want you to pay something like £70 up front, and I'm assuming there will be some weeks off around Easter. I've managed to get special dispensation to go a little while longer on pay as you go as we're going on holiday in late March and then back to work most likely after that.

DS was wearing hand-me-downs from generous MNer MyCatIsABastard. I was dressed in Old Navy (U.S. cheap Gap subsidiary) and Mothercare. Stylin'.

Heaton Park sounds lovely, and isn't terribly far for me to get there.
