A Manchester Meet up?

MerlinsBeard · 08/02/2010 11:08

Seems there a few Manchester MNers who would like a meet up.

I know the SHineys are having one but feels wrong to gate crash if we haven;t posted!!

I am not volunteering to organise one, just starting a thread so other people can

I am far to lazy and likely to change my mind to do that!!

Luck of the draw suwoo, was born round here in Wythenshawe

choppychopster · 15/02/2010 15:48

Hello! I meant to post on this thread when it first appeared last week but was a bit scared forgot about it. I might well be able to come as I've got a few days holiday to use up and fancied a mooch round the Trafford Centre.

Have applied to join the FB group (although am disappointed that there is not a secret MN handshake). My initials are KS (have horrible brattish profile pic taken at my sister's wedding with my tongue out).

MrsChemist · 15/02/2010 15:50

I got bored of all the bloody students in S. Manchester (even though I was one). It was fun at first, but there are only so many times you can stand being woken in the early hours by pissed people, shouting, giggling and knocking bins over.

suwoo · 15/02/2010 15:54

You're in choppychopster.

Saucepanman, I used to work in Wythenshawe which is where me and DH met and I have a few friends from round there. Some have moved upwards on now .

Thats where me and TSC worked together in the bloody grim call centre.

Saucepanman · 15/02/2010 15:57

Aha! Bet I know it well. My mum still lives there, so I am around there periodically, also having this baby at Wythenshawe hosp.

Was it a communications call centre?

MerlinsBeard · 15/02/2010 16:05

SPM - PREGNANT???

welcome choppy !!

I am norf !

choppychopster · 15/02/2010 16:08

Sorry, another south Manchester-er here. Chorlton, so it's a mixture of lentil-weavery Guardian readers and students knocking over the bins in the early hours

suwoo · 15/02/2010 16:14

Not the communications one, but just behind it on Concorde business park. Capital Bank

MerlinsBeard · 15/02/2010 16:18

Chorlton is North for me

I had a thought earlier (it has been known to happen)
As there are so many of us, (and I know some people might not be able to make it, but there will still be a fair few) where ever we go to eat/drink/be merry might want to know our menu orders in advance. So we might need to get our skates on and pick a place. BDSM said she would call Giraffe, but we might need backup ideas, just in case they can't accommodate us.

Oh God! What if they want a deposit?

MerlinsBeard · 16/02/2010 10:48

But that woukd need some form of dedictaion!

FWIW i wasn't going to eat anyway - just a few vodkas soft drink.

mom- yep! Thought you knew. Am 24 weeks, and feel grim.

suwoo- both me and my mum are quite near there, and I used to work in the Heald Green, a lot of capital bank/concorde business park people came in there for drinks/food.

Saucepanman · 16/02/2010 11:27

suwoo- was just going to say my friend worked at capital bank, and then I saw you have her on your FB friends! (EP) I met her when we both worked at the HG pb

BelleDameSansMerci · 16/02/2010 11:48

Ladies, literally was going to call Giraffe and thought I'd better check the thread out.

Do you think saying 25 + children would be about right?

MrsChemist · 16/02/2010 11:52

Yeah I would say that's about right.

BelleDameSansMerci · 16/02/2010 11:54

Right, have called them. They could probably accommodate us BUT there may be a Cirque du Soleil event on that day and if it's on at lunchtime they can't. They're going to find out and call me back.

They did suggest Giraffe at Manchester Spinningfields if we needed to keep the same day?

Thoughts?

BelleDameSansMerci · 16/02/2010 11:56

Sorry, that was a bit brusque! Was in work mode

MrsChemist · 16/02/2010 12:03

Are all the restaurants going to be busy for the circus that day?

BelleDameSansMerci · 16/02/2010 12:05

Trafford Centre will be, yes. Just waiting to hear if it is on at lunchtime. Will let you know asap.

MrsChemist · 16/02/2010 12:05

Okie doke

Saucepanman · 16/02/2010 12:42

I won't be able to do central manchester, won't have enough time between picking up dd from nursery and ds from school. Will await majority verdict!

BelleDameSansMerci · 16/02/2010 13:13

Don't worry - think Trafford Centre is best option. We can try for another date if 8th is out.

suwoo · 16/02/2010 14:16

It sure is a small world. EP isn't a 'friend' now as such, I haven't seen her since we worked there, she moves in the same circles though as my good friend who grew up in Woodhouse Park I think and works in Civic. (in her defense she is professionally qualified- she doesn't work in B&M's)

We used to be in the Heald Green every Friday and often on weekdays. I left there in summer 2001 when I was pg with dd. Did you work there that long ago?

Saucepanman · 16/02/2010 14:28

yep, I worked there 1997-1999 approx. Is the friend you are referring to her cousin, C? I am also "just" fb friends with EP now, though we used to go out together every sat night.
