A meet up!!!!! Ooooh!!!

MaeWest · 04/05/2008 21:55

Puss - where you been? Haven't seen you around for aaaages

PussinJimmyChoos · 04/05/2008 22:00

Was in M.East for two weeks and then generally too knackered to post on mnet when got back! How are you m'dear?

MaeWest · 04/05/2008 22:04

Grumpy - DS has been poorly since Tues, I'm going stir crazy being in the house all day with him (he's at the whingy stage now)

How was your trip? And can you make it next Fri?

PussinJimmyChoos · 04/05/2008 22:09

Soz to hear your DS is unwell - hope he feels better soon - sympathise with going stir crazy - its hard work when they whine all day isn't it!!

Trip was okay....ishooos with use of car seat/letting DS out on the balconies etc....mentality in M.East very different to over here....not really a holiday with a toddler and a DH that thinks he's on holiday and doesn't wash one farking dish the whole time he's there......bet you wish you hadn't asked!!!

Yes, Friday sounds good! Am hoping DS behaves as he's taken to tantrumming when things don't go his way....he spent a good 5 minutes last Sat flat out on Weston pier just because I tried to get him to change direction....I want a t-shirt that says I'm a mumsnetter...log on tonight so I can justify my childs tantrum and explain its NOT due to fruit shoots or similar!! ha ha!

MaeWest · 04/05/2008 22:15

We're just starting to get a taste of tantrums here, DS specialises in going a fetching shade of crimson and practically vibrating with effort

Hope to see you on Friday, must drag myself off to bed...

DixiePixie · 04/05/2008 22:37

Hi Puss, missed you recently. Glad you can make it

Hurrah! Maybe we can get 3 children tantrumming at once!

DD has taken to spectacular meltdowns in the street recently. Does a great line in eardrum-splitting screams and can go on for aaages!!!

My favourite was a couple of days ago where she threw herself on the pavement in temper because I wouldn't let her run into the road . I was letting her have a bit of walking time with her backpack and lead on. I couldn't get her back in the pushchair cos she was wriggling and kicking so much (plus she's bloody strong!!) To add to the experience, there was broken glass all over the pavement. I kept having to pick her up, walk up the pavement a bit then let her carry on - just to discover more broken glass on the pavement - grr

Had to ring DH to come out and meet us and carry her cos I couldn't manage her and the pushchair at the same time. We provided great entertainment for the customers in the pub beer garden that we were opposite at the time...

'tis a constant battle of wills (no fruitshoots involved here either Puss!!)

PussinJimmyChoos · 04/05/2008 22:50

Oooh lets annoy the museum staff with a tantrum display!! ha ha!! DS likes to headbang and then runs crying to me asking me to kiss it better....then runs back and does it again.....maybe I should give him fruit shoots...at least then I can blame them and not think oh fark, its my inadequate parenting!!!

DixiePixie · 04/05/2008 23:12

Aww - bless your DS.

Anyway, I've decided to go with the idea that tantrums aren't necessarily to do with inadequate parenting - it is just a sign that our DCs are confident and secure enough with us to know that it's safe for them to try out their boundaries (I repeat this to myself like a mantra in between all the dirty/pitying/critical looks I get from strangers in the street on a more and more regular basis!!!)

PussinJimmyChoos · 04/05/2008 23:18

Oh the looks are just the worst part of it aren't they?!!!

We need a Mnetter's code of conduct when we see a mother of a tantrumming child that involves a quick sprint to the local shop for a mahoosive bar of choc and followed by a reassuring pat on the back for the cringing mother along with a promise that no threads will be started along the lines of 'crazy wild eyed mother with tantrumming child seen in Bristol City Centre today...'

charlotte121 · 06/05/2008 17:48

funny thing is you always get people dogging you up when your kid has the screaming ab dabs (thats what my mum calls them) but I bet 95% of them have been in exactly the same situation. out for the day some where public when their child decides to launch themselfs onto the floor just becuase they cant have a ride on thomas the tank engine... Im sure tesco have put those machines outside just to wind poor mothers with no 50 pence pieces up. Everytime you go past one with my niece she DEMANDS a ride... luckyly ds is too young and too frightened to understand the things. he does have to odd temper tantrum whem i try and get him to eat his greens tho... and he's only 11 months. Im gonna have my work cut out when he's a todler looking forward to friday! char x
