OK, thought I'd bite the bullet and start this thread as we were talking about the possibility on the "we're great, we are" thread

Is anyone interested in a christmas meet up? I know it's early but you know how time has a habit of flying by... I'm happy to organise if so. You can post here or email me at [email protected] I'm thinking probably London or just outside London as the place and the venue depends on how many want to come. Like batey's idea of a 70s/80s theme...

Yep still interested. Its in the diary!

Thanks for organising it WWW.

ScummyMummy · 27/09/2002 16:24

Please can you add me to the list too? Sounds supersonically fantastic!

bayleaf · 27/09/2002 20:15

Dixie - I've tried to reply to your e mail today but it's been returned twice - not sure why. I'll keep trying - but just so you know I'm not ignoring you!

WideWebWitch · 27/09/2002 20:58

CAM, ok, won't ignore you! It's in SW7 and Glos Rd is the nearest tube. The address is 15 Gloucester Rd and their website is here . Pamina and scummy, have added you and taken Rhubarb out (shame but understandable given the state of the railways in this country), so we're 36 I think...will add it up again when I have more time. It's a long thread!

I'd really like to come, but I'm really quite oddly nervous about it. Is there anyone who's also travelling to Paddington....maybe we could meet and jolly each other along???

Willow2 · 28/09/2002 15:28

Bobbins - come!!!! You have had a shite time and enjoy a good evening out. I went to the meet up back in June and it was a really good giggle. Was nervous as hell before hand but ended up not wanting the evening to end.

WideWebWitch · 28/09/2002 16:01

Agree with Willow2, please do come bobbins, we're nice, honest! I've only been to one meet up and it was great.

Bobbins · 28/09/2002 16:06

It must be odd though....loads of people that have only "virtually" met. I imagine spending the whole time going which ones Willow2...batters...www...scummy...tigermoth..prufock etc etc. A bit overwhelming....but I really would like to give it a go.

bossykate · 28/09/2002 18:19

hi www. if we met at 5pm what time would you think we would have dinner? the wine/empty stomach combo does not work well for me!

Twink · 28/09/2002 18:30

Bobbins, I'm going via Paddington and would be happy to stand under the station clock with a red carnation clasped in my teeth !

Bobbins · 28/09/2002 18:42

How can I refuse..looking forward to it now. ks...have the gin and slonic lined up before I get there...next one is on me. Twink.. I think a copy of some obscure magazine (Junior perhaps) by the burger king stand would be appropriate...although I'll oblige with a carnation if you wish!

sylvev · 28/09/2002 20:44

WWW, sorry I shall have to pull out. I have shingles (yuk) and its showing no signs of going. Have a good time and I hope to make a future meeting, (without my spots and itches!)

bossykate · 28/09/2002 21:05

jasper, don't see your name on the list. think you might make it? you might win the prize for furthest travelled!

WideWebWitch · 28/09/2002 22:15

Well if we met at 5 how about ordering at 6.30-7 and eating for 7.30 - 8ish? Or is that too early? I did think about that bossykate and wondered if we met at 5 whether I'd be too pissed to talk any sense to anyone by 11! But I think I'll make a point of eating something late-ish so I can drink a bit and still be ok to talk to anyone turning up much later. Well that's the plan in my head anyway I know not everyone will be able to make 5 but I sort of think for anyone who is coming any distance it makes it a good long evening (if we want it to be) and I sooo want to have time to talk to as many people as possible. Anyone else up for 5pm or will it just be me?? Place your votes folks...

OP posts:
jasper · 29/09/2002 00:41

bossykate, you are kind
I am very jealous of you all.
I think the mumsnet meet up would make a great fly on the wall programme for channel 4....
Would it be possible for someone to take a bunch of digital photos to post on the site?
Or are you all worried about maintaining anonymity

Ghosty · 29/09/2002 01:26

I am sorry to say that I can't join you for your get together but would just like to know - how are you all going to recognise eachother? Will everyone be wearing a carnation?!

Knowing me I would spend the whole evening eating with a bunch of strangers only to find out at the end that Mumsnet is at the next table!

Scatterbrain · 29/09/2002 08:06

I'm a bit scared - but I'd love to come if you don't mind ?

Will prob drive from Reading if you want a lift Bobbins ?

sis · 29/09/2002 10:47

www, I,m in London but the 5 o'clock start sounds great to me as I too would like to talk to as many people as possible(whether they like it or not!).

bayleaf · 29/09/2002 12:53

Yes - definitely 5pm start good for me - especially as I shall fall asleep at about 9.30...
Sylvev - How long does Shingles last?????

CAM · 29/09/2002 17:01

Ghosty
I've been to 2 and I'm going to my third next Saturday (in Brighton) - we recognise each other on account of it being a bunch of women talking loudly and animatedly (just like online)plus lots of drinking and not a little eating.Come and join in!

Ailsa · 29/09/2002 17:28

5pm ok for me too.

emsiewill · 29/09/2002 17:32

5pm is fine by me - from my experience of the one I went to in May, you need as long as possible to get a chance to talk to everyone. (Although the people I talk to at the end of the evening may not form the same impression as those I chat with earlier on! )LOL
