Is anyone interested in a huge mumsnet christmas party/meet up?

OK, thought I'd bite the bullet and start this thread as we were talking about the possibility on the "we're great, we are" thread

Is anyone interested in a christmas meet up? I know it's early but you know how time has a habit of flying by... I'm happy to organise if so. You can post here or email me at [email protected] I'm thinking probably London or just outside London as the place and the venue depends on how many want to come. Like batey's idea of a 70s/80s theme...

WWW have you managed to book anything? Ailsa/Dixie should we get in touch off board re hotel room share? I have a hotmail account bayleaf253@hotmail that I can be contacted on ( tho only check it periodically ( as opposed to Mumsnet - which I check FAR TOO OFTEN -so am not ignoring you if takes a day or two to reply!)

WideWebWitch · 21/09/2002 20:20

No, didn't book as it all went pear shaped here! But will if people are still interested...Da Mario I reckon, 30th Nov.

Ailsa · 25/09/2002 23:10

Bayleaf - sending you an e-mail.

Ailsa · 25/09/2002 23:41

WWW - is it still on for 30th Nov?

Dixie · 26/09/2002 00:33

bayleaf i sent you an e-mail few days ago...did you get it? or have you not checked that hotmail account yet?

Willow2 · 26/09/2002 08:48

I'm still up for it - promise not to talk about anything contentious.

Rhubarb · 26/09/2002 11:10

I would love to go, but am having problems. Mainly with travel and expense. There are so many things coming up just before Christmas, and then there is Christmas itself, that we need to be stringent with our finances. The trains are not running properly until Dec 8th, so it would take me ages to get there, and as I would be travelling quite far, it would make sense to stop over, but I don't know anyone so that would be a problem too.

If anyone can wave a magic wand to solve these problems I would be very grateful! I would love to go and will keep thinking of a solution.

Bumblelion · 26/09/2002 11:35

I am very interested in attending but (me being lazy) haven't time to read through all the thread to see what date/location has been set.

Can anyone write the brief details down just so I know.

Thanks.

Dixie · 26/09/2002 15:03

Rhubarb - where you coming from? - it may be an idea to check the 'anyone prepared to give lifts' thread as people have offered from various areas & some have even offered their spare rooms etc....

Dixie · 26/09/2002 15:05

Rhubarb - where you coming from? - it may be an idea to check the 'anyone prepared to give lifts' thread as people have offered from various areas & some have even offered their spare rooms etc....

Also....Bumbelion - suggested date is 30th Nov at a place called Da Marios (www.Damario.co.uk)which is Gloucester Road SW7 area. other details of hotels & travel etc is also on the 'anyone prepared to give lifts thread'

Bumblelion · 26/09/2002 15:09

Dixie - 30th November in London suits me fine. I am travelling from South London (Carshalton - near Sutton and Croydon) so if anyone wants a lift (and trusts my driving!) I will be more than willing to offer.

Rhubarb · 26/09/2002 15:55

Dixie - I created that thread! The trouble is no-one is driving from where I live! Maybe I can get someone to drive from London to pick me up and then take me back again - any offers?

Bumblelion · 26/09/2002 15:57

Where do you live Rhubarb?

Marina · 26/09/2002 16:10

Count me in on this, looking forward to meeting some new faces and seeing some old ones again (that's as in previously seen not wrinkled)

prufrock · 26/09/2002 18:08

This sounds wonderful - can I come? It would be lovely to see some of the people that I have very quickly come to rely on for help and advice.

bayleaf · 26/09/2002 20:02

Dixie/Ailsa - Sorry for delay - I work Wednesday to Friday so rarely check my hotmail account ( I have a freeserve one as well) until the weekend - mostly hotmail is things from kids at school who I don't want to give my 'proper' e mail address to!
I've now replied to both of you!

WideWebWitch · 26/09/2002 21:39

Ok, just did a quick count and there were 37 of us who expressed an interest. These are:
Bayleaf, Prufrock, Marina, Bumblelion, Rhubarb, Dixie, Willow2, Ailsa, Maras, sis, CAM, tigermoth, Bobbins, ks, Twink, Jodee, florenceuk, emieswill, sb34, bossykate, Tinker, Fionn, batey, bunny2, barca, mollymay, LTA, sylvev, dejags, jendy, Bron, chanelno5, MABS, sobernow, MandyD, crystaltips and me. Please let me know if I've missed you out or if you're not interested now. You can email me at [email protected] if you want to instead of replying here.

So currently it's a table for 37 at da Mario in London SW7 on Sat 30th November for what, early evening? 5 ish for anyone who can get there early? I haven't called recently to check availability but hopefully we'll be ok. Is this too early? I just know that 8-11pm went soooo fast at the only meet up I've been to. Anyone else interested? Anyone above who can't come and wants to drop out? Let me know please! Thanks. Really looking forward to meeting people.

You're a star WWW - I'm looking forward to it already! ( Help! I've got nothing to wear!!)
Ailsa - have you seen SueW's post on the other thread - would that be nearer than the place you suggested? As I said before my knowledge on London is NIL - I am the orignal country cousin!

Fionn · 26/09/2002 22:11

I repeat my offer made on the lifts thread of a spare room in west London for the night. If anyone's interested but doesn't want to put it on the thread please email me via mumsnet. I'm not a mad axe murderer, honest!

thumper · 26/09/2002 22:35

WWW. I would love to come too please.

Boo, don't think I can make it at all this year. Rhubarb I'd look into getting the train its only 3 hrs from Preston to Euston, much quicker than driving

CAM · 27/09/2002 13:09

www
I wish I took the time to look at the threads properly: I've posted questions on another thread which you have answered below. Ignore me on the other thread but don't ignore me on this one as I am coming on Sat Nov 30! Where is the restaurant?

Rhubarb · 27/09/2002 13:31

Lizzer - I just checked and because of the ongoing works on the lines, I would have to leave Preston at 11.20 to get into Euston at 4.22. I'm not sure I can survive 5 hours on a train on Saturday afternoon. I'm sorry www but I may have to give this one a miss, it's just too far. Maybe once the trains are running properly, next year perhaps.

I can't say I'm not disappointed though Oh well, there will be a next time won't there? Enjoy yourselves!
