Time for a new general chat thread

HAPPY NEW YEAR

oh the double standards!
a friend bought dd a remote control car, nobody batted an eyelid. but only people who played with it so far were dh and mrsB ds
dd does not like toys that talk move or otherwise make noise independently - quite a blessing most of the time i must say

O2BMe · 16/01/2007 09:44

2Cute - I CAT now. Had to set it up. Not that I know how to use it.

2Cute · 16/01/2007 15:22

I've just cat-d you now. The message gets sent to your email address. The CAT facility allows you to contact a mumsnetter without it being open on the net. If you want to contact someone, you just select the option on the top right saying contact a mumsnetter.

O2BMe · 16/01/2007 20:23

Received your message 2cute and have replied back with my details.

Paddlechick666 · 16/01/2007 21:52

evening all!

oxo, dorset it is fabulous. i am jealous!
we can all visit you, just make sure you get a property with land so we can camp!!!

how's the nanny thing going?

i think i've found a childminder! went this arvo and dd spent most of the time dundering around asking for CM's ds1 (8) to pick her up and carry her!

great setting, 2 lovely boys (4 & 8) and the 2 days I want she has no other kids! I would've gone for it on her refusal to say "ta" alone!!!

i know this is smally fry really but under current circs finding a caring CM with 18 years Nanny exp. a great setting and dd clearly loving it is just fab!

foxie, i'll come get you sunday then. will have to chaperone your ds and my dd tho - no back seat shenanigans!!!

2Cute · 17/01/2007 00:03

Paddle - Didn't realise you were CM hunting again. Congrats on finding one.
Are you off work at the moment while you're looking?

XOXO - Can I ask who the exception is???? I just found out last week that according to my medical record I am a heavy smoker and drinker! HELLO, I do not smoke and haven't drank since I fell pg with DS. I wander what else is in there.....DH's record also has mistakes.

foxabout2pop · 17/01/2007 05:51

Paddle your CM sounds brilliant. Its such a relief isn't it?? I think DD is going to be one of those girls that likes boys

Is it OK to drive us? If not, I can drive, its only down the road from here.

2cute - how did you find out what it says on your records; did you ask to see them? Mine probably say "rather neurotic and frankly, a pain in the arse!"

Oxo - hope you get the outcome you want on Thursday !

Paddlechick666 · 17/01/2007 07:20

morning all

yep foxie no prob to drive you guys - thought i'd posted but can't have done!

i did tell CM's ds1 that dd had a boyfriend already - CM's ds1 was horrified that he could be thought of as dd's boyfriend!!!

more later, gotta get going!

foxabout2pop · 17/01/2007 08:30

Paddle - good I'm glad you told her DD is "taken"

You must pop round and rummage through DD's old clothes at some point too - they're not neatly folded and ironed - more kind of chucked into a bin liner.

Oh dear, when I was getting DD ready for nursery this morning, she said, "Mummy, can you try not shouting today?"

xoxo · 17/01/2007 09:02

Foxie: what is life without shouting? Boring!
Closest I get to exercise these days anyway

2cute: Dr Hahbib (I'm sure spelt wrong) - young male doctor - idiot. I refuse to have him now, as do all my friends (I learnt this after I had a bad experience with him that no-one I know will have him! Thanks for telling me, girls!!) Told me ds is adhd: in fcat he has a hearing problem. The HV also told me not to listen to him and booked us in for hearing tests which have shown problems, and reassurred us that he is not ADHD. she said he has now 'painted' at least 6 kids as adhd - knee jerk reaction. We were so upset. Bloody idiot.

now breathing calmly.

am so sad to be missing girls night out on friday and kis patys too. big bums.

hope all ok.
COV: gla dmove finally happened and all ok. MrsR - hope all getting better. PC: good going on CM - big relief I'm sure.
Uwila: have a dribk for me on saturday. see if you can't lead someone else astray. Might hear you guys partying it up in Park Aveneue in the early hours - from Dorset!!!

uwila · 17/01/2007 09:07

XOXO, I thought you were going to drug him on the morning of the interview to avoid moving to Dorset. What happened to that plan? So, what's up with the nanny hunt? And what about your job? Are you packing it all in? Oh, and yes, I'm with Paddle on the trip to visit you in Dorset... When are you moving?

Yeah, okay I'll see if I can arrange to have a drink for you on Sat. But, can't overdo it cause there's a bday party on Sun.

Paddle, glad it worked out for you. In my experience, childminders are more stable than nannies. I spoke to the parent from DD's school last night and we are going to share with her. I can't believe the irony that she's about a mile form you.

xoxo · 17/01/2007 09:18

Hi Uwila.
There's still a slight chance that they won't agree on terms [clutching to straw emotion]. But dh is NOT organised, and yet he has booked this w/end in Dorset to look around at villages and houses so he is v keen to say the least. tbh I have never seen him this excited about a job - ever. I am NOT a Tammy Wynette kinda woman but I know he would do it for me in a second so here I am, putting my supportive head on. I also know that if I hate it there we won't move. so I guess that's fair. [bugger emotion]

You have a childminder??? What about A?

Oh - and am starting work next week. Nothing is changing until I have a good contract in my grubby little mitts. Until then it's buz as usual. should make fora stressful first day though

uwila · 17/01/2007 10:00

Padddle has a childminder. Not me. I've just embarked on sharing the nanny though with another family at DD's school, who also have a 3 1/2 and 1 year old and the mum is also American. So, we'll see how it goes. Obviously no conflict with school drop off times/locations.

What's up with your childcare hunt?

Paddlechick666 · 17/01/2007 10:26

oxo, don't despair. Dorset is fabulous, I'd go in a heartbeat. I know the area a smidgen but not to live, only to visit and go diving.

think of the long hot summers on the coast and indulgent weekend trips to bristol to buy exotic luxuries like olives and green n blacks LOL

go a bit further south-west and think of the surfer eye candy you'll be able to enjoy too!

you know the kids will LOVE it don't ya!

and there's always room for visiting country cousins.........

foxabout2pop · 17/01/2007 11:07

Oxo - I am too as I've been fantasising a lot about moving from London, but can't get my head around the bit about finding places in a new school for DS and DD...

Will you still work if you move, or will you be able to be a sahm? (getting even more at the thought of having the choice....)

foxabout2pop · 17/01/2007 11:07

umm, that was deliberate BTW - just emphasising my point. Ahem

xoxo · 17/01/2007 12:04

the answer is nfi, Foxy. still in denial.

Uwila: have 2 lovely nannies: one temp covering one day until DH drops down to 4 days a week and takes on childcare for that day {wistful sighs...alll so perfect....], the other for 2 of the days I'm working.
all sorted. first one started yesterday and it went really well. second one in tomorrow, and we love her already. I know a friend that she has been friends with for 10 years so all comfy.

still looking forward to starting work next week. denial, denial, denial.
