Time for a new general chat thread

HAPPY NEW YEAR

OP posts:
harktheheraldfoxessing · 01/01/2007 15:00

Hi everyone - thanks MrsBigD.

How is everyone's first day of the year going and what are your new year's resolutions?

Mine are:

to get fit once baby is born
to somehow obtain £100k
oh and to keep the house clutter free (joke)

We were supposed to go to my dad and step mums today but they're both sick. So spurred on by three cups of decaff, too much chocolate and a very loud blast of a Wham CD, I've spent all day decluttering and have filled two bin liners so far [smug grin emoticon]. All I have to do now is adopt this as a lifestyle choice, rather than just something I do once every 2 years ...

anyone get rat-arsed last night then?

sfxmum · 01/01/2007 15:11

hello just back from an invigorating walk at Kew, we kept well away from C&C

oh to be clutter free! not sure it is even in my genesbut have promised myself to spend this afternoon sorting out stuff to throw away, give to charity shop and tidy away.

will have a think about resolutions...

harktheheraldfoxessing · 01/01/2007 15:21

Its brilliant weather isn't it?

sfxmum · 01/01/2007 15:35

absolutely glorious, i think we went at the right time lovely and bright but i would like some snow too at some point

MrsBigD · 01/01/2007 17:02

Resolutions? Oh yes... no more mince pies and chocolate for a while

And also de-cluttering or will be when kids aren't looking

DH and I shared a bottle of wine so no drunken debauchery this end.

It's very quiet on here though so looks like some poeple had fun

evening all and a very happy new year.

i had an incredibly sedate night! ate some lovely brie and drank some nice chablis.

tv was rubbish so ended up on MN all evening until thumping headache got the better of me!

at 11:30pm decided 30 mins extra sleep was better than fireworks and went to bed. DD was asleep by 7:45pm so well settled.

Apart from some idiot singing "I love you Baby and if it's quite allright I love you baaaby! Trust in me when I saaaaaay............" etc at 1:30am I slept till 6am!

at 6:30am i crept to dd's door and listened for breathing - luckily there was some!

crept back to bed till 7am when my absolute angel awoke with a lovely chatter to herself!

now, that beats all Xmas presents and gives me huge hope for a good 2007!

The weather has helped!

Spent the arvo at my best mates place celebrating their DS's 1st birthday and had a very lovely time!

DH is pondering coming over for dinner tomorrow night as well.

So feeling good for the year to come, so far!

ps: if anyone gets bored de-cluttering THEIR house they can come to mine.......

Paddlechick666 · 01/01/2007 22:27

erm, resolutions..........

nope, haven't got any!

;-)

ps: am around tomorrow if anyone else is, or weds arvo perhaps? then it's back to the grind for me ;-(

harktheheraldfoxessing · 02/01/2007 07:55

Paddle - sounds like quite a nice new year's eve to me. I watched Jools Holland's thingy and had a glass of half wine/half orange

I'm around today too - need to pop to shops this morning when monsters awake but could meet a bit later. What's best for you?

uwila · 02/01/2007 08:36

Mornin' everyone! And Happy New Year. My New Years Resolution is to drop a stone by the end of March.

On a more important subject, have we sorted out a January meet-up yet? Think we were debating between Indian and Elvis in Twickers last I looked, but I can't find the thread.

Oh, and Foxie wants a restaurant so it will be smoke free.

I wonder how Comeoveneer's move went? Anyone heard from her?

Paddlechick666 · 02/01/2007 08:43

morning all

well despite transferring from car to cot at 9pm dd slept till 6am again! please god this continues!

isn't it AMAZING what a couple of good nights' sleep can do! i'm whizzing round getting so much done!

i'm staying off the Jan dinner meet as I really can't be sure about getting a sitter. am hoping dh might be up for it but will have to wait and see.........

foxie, got to go to Kew Retail this morning and pick up a few bits. am also trying to get dd's afternoon nap more regulated but how about mid arvo? are you up for kew or is that too much?

;-)

ps: i keep forgetting to say thank you again for dd's present. your ds is so kind!

uwila · 02/01/2007 09:14

For those of you pondering nannies (Paddle and Oxo), I ran across this on annyjob and thought you might be interested. here

uwila · 02/01/2007 09:15

That's nannyjob

Paddlechick666 · 02/01/2007 09:50

cheers uwila, my nanny back on monday and will be having a chat to sort things out then.

hopefully will be able to continue with her as we all really like her but i need to sort a few things out.

foxie, d'you fancy coming here for the arvo? see daytime meets thread !

harktheheraldfoxessing · 02/01/2007 10:29

Uwila

I can't do links, but have asked who can do 18, 19 or 20 Jan. Thought if we can at least get a date agreed, we could choose venue afterwards and book etc.

Paddle - suggested 2pm, but would 3pm be better for DD, so she can get a nap in? Not sure I have the energy for Kew but could pop over to you with a cake or something?

Off to Richmond now but will pop back later to check thread

harktheheraldfoxessing · 03/01/2007 17:12

Listen, is anyone interested in meeting the government's maternity leave Czar on Tuesday 9 Jan about 12 noon?

A friend has arranged a meeting for an article and is fishing for some Mum's who have views/issues re. maternity leave to meet with this Czar person.

MrsBigD · 03/01/2007 17:45

hmmm maternity leave...
not long enough and SMP is obismal... how is one supposed to get by on that amount of money? It barely covers nappies

OP posts:
sfxmum · 03/01/2007 18:00

foxie that is interesting, i think the main issue is that it varies so much from company to company and the 'basic' is really quite poor (was appalled to hear of the conditions some people had in their contract)

hoxo - cheers for the feedback and tips on the other thread my MIL was very helpful too over Christmas with similar advice only she told me to get back to work after a while she does regret a bit not going back at all

2Cute · 03/01/2007 19:05

X A very happy new year everyone! Hope you all have a fab 2007 full of lots of laughter, no tears (other than ones of joy) and good health! X

We had a lovely Christmas, lots of visits and visitors. Hope everyone had a good time. I'm still trying to get DS back into his usual sleep routine.

Is everyone back at work now or people still around for meeting up either tomorrow or Friday?

pudding77 · 03/01/2007 19:18

Same to you 2cute!

I agree that maternity should be standard for all companies, or at least have a sliding scale depending on the size or something. I was very fortunate in that my company are very generous with maternity leave & pay. But as I'm now going to be a SAHM I'm not sure how much I could contribute - best leave it to someone who can actually think of something intelligent to say

Paddlechick666 · 03/01/2007 19:43

foxie - ME! I'd love to meet the Czar!

I am sure my employer stiffed me over AMP entitlements and the gov website etc is about as easy to understand as Russian.

oooh perhaps i could get SJ to translate for me.

there's an update btw on how daniel's doing on the website.....

harktheheraldfoxessing · 04/01/2007 09:14

Paddle - will put you in touch with Carol. The article is for Prima Baby magazine.

Anyone fancy doing SueJ's link again for me (grovel grovel)?

Lazyarse moi.....

Paddlechick666 · 04/01/2007 09:19

you are SO lazy! and not even back at work like me today!

busy busy busy!

Daniel's Progress

pudding77 · 04/01/2007 09:21
