Norfolk Mummies?!?!

Hi I am new to Mumsnet, I saw the great review in The Sunday Times, and simply had to look! I was just wondering if there are any stay at home Mums in Norfolk? I live in King's Lynn and am at home with my 17 month old son Jack. Jack and I try to get out as often as money permits, with only Richard (hubby) working, not always possible, although I do my little bit with Avon!!
Please contact me and maybe we can organise days out and meets etc.........

no - I was born in Essex, grew up in the Fens of Lincolnshire, flitted about a bit and have been in Norfolk just over 11 years. I like Norfolk people.

FimboCLAUS · 16/12/2004 14:30

Hi Throckenrobin. Norfolk people are nice, but the older ones (wrinklies I mean) are very very hard to understand especially if I am talking to them with a Scottish accent things become very confused!!

throckenrobin · 16/12/2004 14:53

it took me quite a few years to learn the local accent - and I had the advantage that the Fen accent is fairly similar - but I really like it - it has character. Bet they have problems understanding you though - which part of Scotland ? I lived in Dundee for 6 months and never understood a word the locals said .

FimboCLAUS · 16/12/2004 15:38

Oh God Throckenrobin, guess where I am from originally!!!! Although in my defence have not lived there for years.

throckenrobin · 16/12/2004 18:27

ah well - it will probably take years for you and the Norfolk "oldies" to understand each other - but you can have fun trying !

KatieMaChristmas · 16/12/2004 19:58

ZCMum - where in Acle does he work - that's right by me......He probably passes my house on his way home (unless he gets the train)

ZCMUM · 16/12/2004 20:32

At the service station on the A47, Acle is lovely, we'd love a house there! If you ever see any up to let, let me know!!!

DissLocated · 16/12/2004 20:34

So who fancies a meet up then??

ZCMUM · 16/12/2004 20:36

Again...I am! I'm pretty new to MN, what do you lot do for meet ups?

DissLocated · 16/12/2004 20:40

I'm pretty new as well, haven't done one before. I started the 'Is Diss it?' thread in the hope of doing a meet up, response was slow but seems to be gathering steam now.

KatieMaChristmas · 16/12/2004 20:41

You need to look in Brundell, Blofield, Martham, maybe Caister?

Fliby is gorgeous but expensive.....so is Acle

Are you looking to but or rent

ZCMUM · 16/12/2004 20:45

It'll be renting for the next few years, I expect they don't come up that often in the nice areas. We love Filby, it's such a cute little village! We saw alot we liked in Caister but they all went before we got a chance to view them!

KatieMaChristmas · 16/12/2004 20:50

Look in the Mercury and the advertiser
How many bedrooms?

ZCMUM · 16/12/2004 21:01

We'd need a 3. The rental prices are much more down here than up north! At the mo we have a 6m let so can't really start looking seriously till april.

KatieMaChristmas · 16/12/2004 21:04

Start looking very early remember this is a holiday resort people come and spend the summer....so by April a lot have been rented 'cos people fancy a long holiday....

I'm going to bake 35 fairy cakes now - so I'll look back later

Have you found the indoor play places? like Sirbouncealot and the one in Gorleston

ZCMUM · 16/12/2004 21:09

Thanks I'll look them up, haven't found anything for the kids to do here yet. Enjoy making your cakes! Enjoy eating them aswell

KatieMaChristmas · 16/12/2004 21:32

All done now - for the school party

So what about Caister Castle - lovely restaurant great play space

The cinema is dinky but parking free in the winter

The best beach is at Sea Palling

And theres a great farmers market at Stalham

KatieMaChristmas · 16/12/2004 22:36

36 fairy cakes made, baked, iced, boxed and cleared up.....supermum I am not - I'm knackered

ZCMUM · 16/12/2004 22:59

So you made one extra then? Is that one for me?

KatieMaChristmas · 17/12/2004 07:46

Well actually I made 48 - but only 35 will go to school

I'll be popular with DH for a few hrs

...and the C/M children will love them

ZCMUM · 17/12/2004 19:40

How did your DD enjoy her party? How did your DH enjoy the cakes? Hope he left some for the kids!

KatieMaChristmas · 17/12/2004 21:05

The party was ....a children's Christmas Party...DD loved it

DH ate most of the cakes
4 (yes four) children cancelled today - so 1 (quite lonely) child ate the icing off 1 cake

Never mind I got paid anyway
