Hi I am new to Mumsnet, I saw the great review in The Sunday Times, and simply had to look! I was just wondering if there are any stay at home Mums in Norfolk? I live in King's Lynn and am at home with my 17 month old son Jack. Jack and I try to get out as often as money permits, with only Richard (hubby) working, not always possible, although I do my little bit with Avon!!
Please contact me and maybe we can organise days out and meets etc.........

I've got 2 kids, DS 6yo and DD 1yo. I'd love to live out in one of the villages , I don't like Great Yarmouth much, it was just a stepping stone to get down here really, my DP got a job here so we had to take the first place we could find, flat in town centre, not ideal home!!!

KatieMaChristmas · 15/12/2004 22:40

Are you renting?
Or hoping to buy?
The Advertiser has houses in on Fridays and council houses to rent too

ZCMUM · 15/12/2004 22:46

Renting at the minute, hoping to buy in future, looking for somwhere else to rent first. We just put our names down on council list, that home select thing, waiting to hear back from that. Hope you have a nice holiday, me and DP booked a holiday to the Maldives to go in April, we keep saying to each other that with money being so tight we really should cancel and use the money on something more important, but no way, we deserve that holiday!!!!

KatieMaChristmas · 15/12/2004 22:50

Unlikley to get the money back - so we have to go

ZCMUM · 15/12/2004 22:52

You'll enjoy the break! Get a tan, show us all up!

KatieMaChristmas · 15/12/2004 22:59

I don't tan
DH doesn't need to
and DD is the only one who will come back a different colour (and she has a head start anyway)

ZCMUM · 16/12/2004 11:43

Oh right, I get you!

Willowmum · 16/12/2004 12:05

How about a Norfolk meet up - sounds good to me!

ZCMUM · 16/12/2004 12:07

I would be up for it!

DissLocated · 16/12/2004 12:23

Excellent! Anyone else? Just changed my name - sorry for confusion.

ZCMUM · 16/12/2004 12:25

Why are all the Norfolk mums from Diss? Is there something in the water there?!!!

DissLocated · 16/12/2004 12:29

I wouldn't say all! Think there are about 4 of us. distance between GY and Diss is about perception I think! I work in Norwich (3 days per week) so drive about 2 hr (with traffic) round trip every day, also drive into Norwich for shopping etc so 40 min trip to see the in laws in Gorlston doesn't feel too bad to me.

throckenrobin · 16/12/2004 12:37

not all - I am near Long Stratton, zebra is up in North Walsham, some over near Lynn, and someone mentioned Acle somewhere on this thread.

Norfolk is a big county though - and the roads mean it takes ages to get from one side to the other.

FimboCLAUS · 16/12/2004 12:52

ZC-I live in Hethersett which is a largish village near Wymondham. I win the prize for being closer to Diss than your are!!!!

ZCMUM · 16/12/2004 12:54

So are you Norfolk born? I've not lived here long, I really like it so far!

FimboCLAUS · 16/12/2004 13:02

No, I come from the land of Jocks. Have lived here for nearly 4 years now. Dh's job was moved down here. Where are you from and why Great Yarmouth?

ZCMUM · 16/12/2004 13:24

North East, Co. Durham, also spent some time up in Tyneside. Why Great Yarmouth? Basically...really not happy up north, had a holiday here, liked it, DP got a job, we moved! Struggled to find somewhere to rent, everything seemed to go so quickly and it was difficult as we were still up north, saw this flat and took it as a kind of stepping stone, hope to find somewhere else once our 6m let is up, hopefully abit more rural and quiet!!!

FimboCLAUS · 16/12/2004 13:29

I used to holiday in GY when I was young. A lot of it seems quite run down now which is a shame. I think there are quite a few nice villages etc out your way. I didn't think there was that many jobs in GY. We used to go to Newcastle quite a lot from Scotland before they opened an Ikea in Edinburgh. I miss Scotland a lot, you will be like us, it takes ages to get back. Sometimes I feel like there is not that much to do around here in the winter months its ok in the summer when the weather is decent, but you are still at the exploring stage which is the best....

throckenrobin · 16/12/2004 13:30

zcmum - where does your dh work - in Yarmouth ?

ZCMUM · 16/12/2004 13:33

DP actually works in Acle. Some parts of GY look awful! It does seem very much a summer place, although everywhere seems dull in the winter. I miss the north a little especially as we haven't been able to get back up to visit people yet, I miss the hills! Norfolk is sooo flat!!!

FimboCLAUS · 16/12/2004 13:34

ZC Mum-Do you want to CAT?

throckenrobin · 16/12/2004 13:43

I don't really know Yarmouth but it does have a bit of a rough reputation - definitely very seasonal work for a lot of people. If you want to move out to the villages nearer Acle you will probably meet a whole new version of Norfolk .

Not all Norfolk is flat - it is a bit bumpy in places honest ! But not what you would call real hills.

ZCMUM · 16/12/2004 13:47

CAT? sorry not used to all this text language yet! Yeah I've noticed the odd 'hill' sometimes when we're out in the car and we go over a bump, it's kind of like 'oh a hill!!!'

FimboCLAUS · 16/12/2004 14:08

ZC-If you look above at the heading descriptions - CAT is "Contact Another Talker" - that way I can give you my email address without broadcasting it on here!!

TM-Are you Norfolk born & bred?

FimboCLAUS · 16/12/2004 14:10

Sorry TM was meant for Throckenrobin
